- Rousettus aegyptiacus is active throughout the year in Turkey, where its morphology was studied collected from three localities in the south-west. The characteristics of the Turkish population were similar to those of the nominative subspecies. Moderate differences between the sexes were found in tibia length and total body length. The karyotype is 2n= 36, FN= 70, FNa= 66. The X chromosome is a large metacentric/submetacentric, and the Y chromosome is a dot-like acrocentric.

- The comparative craniological analysis of the short-barb Crimean gudgeon from the Chernaya River (south-western Crimea) and G. gobio from the Volga River basin, as well as the study of morphological cahracters used for identification of G. gobio carpathicus natio krymensis by B e r g (1949) and G. gobio kovatschevi by B ă n ă r e s c u et al. (1999) resulted in conclusion about the specific status of G. krymensis. Several craniological characters, namely the relative lengths of supracleithra and cleithra, preopercle width and the modal numbers of pores in several bones, are presumed to be available characters for its identification, as well as barbel length.

24. Cytotaxonomy and karyology of the tribe Otiorhynchini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

- A cytogenetic study of bisexual species belonging to the genera Cirrorhynchus, Dodecastichus and Otiorhynchus is presented in order to confirm their taxonomic position. The karyotype characterization was accomplished by an analysis of mitotic and meiotic chromosomes after differential staining, namely by C-banding, silver impregnation, DAPI and CMA3. A review of the cytogenetic data for the tribe Otiorhynchini contributed to knowledge of chromosomal evolution in this group. An investigation of five of the species studied showed some similarities such as a sex chromosome system of "parachute type" (Xyp), the presence of 10 autosomal bivalents (2n = 22) and heterochromatin localized around centromeres. These observations are similar to those already described for Otiorhynchini species, and confirm the karyological conservatism of this weevil group. In contrast, another species Cirrorhynchus kelecsenyi has an additional four autosomal bivalents (n% = 14 + Xyp, 2n = 30), which differs considerably from the chromosomal homogeneity of the other genera. Karyotypic evolution in this species was achieved most probably by increasing the number of chromosomes by centric fissions, resulting in variation in the number of acrocentric chromosomes. DAPI-positive and CMA3-negative reactions of heterochromatic DNA in all the species studied suggest that it has an AT-rich composition. Impregnating chromosomes with silver nitrate reveals NORs on one pair of autosomes, and probably argentophilic material in the interspace between the X and y sex chromosomes. The karyological findings support the taxonomical revision of Otiorhynchini based on morphological characters.

- A taxonomic revision of Taraxacum sect. Leucantha Soest is presented. Species in this section are mainly characterized by the pale bordered and appressed outer involucral bracts, achenes covered with subsparse coarse spinules, thick cylindrical cone and a relatively short, thicker rostrum, and often white or pale yellowish flowers. They occur in subsaline wet meadows and steppe depressions over a large area including Mongolia, South Siberia, NE, N and W China, Tibet, the Western Himalayas, Tadzhikistan, Kyrgyzstan and E and NE Kazakhstan. Eighteen species are recognized, seven of them described as new: Taraxacum niveum from the Altai and Dzhungaria, T. candidatum centred in Ladakh, Tadzhikistan and Kyrgyzstan, T. album from Kyrgyzstan, T. flavidum from Mongolia and Transbaikalia, T. occultum from East Mongolia, T. virgineum from Ladakh, India, and T. inimitabile from Gobi-Altai, Mongolia. An analysis of syntypes of the names T. dealbatum Hand.-Mazz. and T. sinense Dahlstedt is given. For the safe interpretation of the name T. luridum, epitype was designated. All the species are agamospermous but sexuality and diploidy is documented for a few Transbaikalian plants of the section Leucantha.

26. Dandelions in Central Asia: a revision of Taraxacum section Stenoloba

- On the basis of rich material from Asia, a recently described group of dandelions, Taraxacum sect. Stenoloba Kirschner et Štěpánek, is revised taxonomically. Four previously described species are recognized: T. sinomongolicum, newly typified, T. mongoliforme, with a lectotype replacing the original holotype now not extant, and a new epitype, T. scariosum, a new combination of Leontodon scariosus Tausch, replacing the frequently confused names, T. asiaticum, newly typified, and T. stenolobum, and T. multisectum, a taxon for the first time compared with other members of the section. Three new species are described: T. abax occupies a large range from S Siberia and Mongolia to NE China, T. abalienatum and T. odibile are known from Mongolia and SE Siberia. Taraxacum abax and T. abalienatum represent core species of the section Stenoloba, whilst T. odibile exhibits a mixture of characters of sections Stenoloba and Leucantha. All the known members of the section Stenoloba are agamosperms. Taraxacum mongoliforme, T. abax and T. scariosum proved to be triploid with 2n = 24. - On the basis of the authors’ collections and cultivated material from Asia, a recently described group of dandelions, Taraxacum sect. Suavia, is revised. In addition to three species described previously (T. haneltii, T. sumneviczii and T. formosissimum), six new species from Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan are recognized. Three of them, T. suave, T. stupendum and T. margaritarium, possess most of the features characterizing the section Suavia, one, T. suasorium, is regarded as intermediate between sections Suavia and Leucantha, whilst the remaining two, T. nobile and T. venustius, exhibit some characters of another related section (T. sect. Stenoloba). The members of the section Suavia are agamospermous. Detailed descriptions, drawings and an identification key are given.

- First and third instar larvae of Aepopsis robini (Laboulbène, 1849) are studied, redescribed, and illustrated. The larvae are characterised by three unique and likely autapomorphic character states within known members of the supertribe Trechitae: (1) apex of antennomere 4 has only one conical sensillun 1; (2) setae FR10 and FR11 on frontale are removed basally on dorsal surface from the apical margin; (3) terga of meso- and metathorax lack pore MEa, and abdominal terga 1-8 lack pore TEa.

29. Description of two new species of Enclisis (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) and support for the secretory role of tyloids in ichneumonid males

- Two new species of Enclisis Townes, 1970 from Spain are described and illustrated: E. dichroma sp.n. and E. schwarzi sp.n. The new species are distinguished from the closest species E. infernator and E. ornaticeps by head and leg characters and body colour. Data on their phenology and a key to these four European species are presented. External and internal scanning electron microscopy of male tyloids revealed that these structures, in both new species, have a secretory role.

30. Differentiation between diploid and tetraploid Centaurea phrygia: mating barriers, morphology and geographic distribution

- Karyological variation, reproductive isolation, morphological differentiation and geographic distribution of the cytotypes of Centaurea phrygia were investigated in Central Europe. Occurrence of two dominant cytotypes, diploid (2n = 22) and tetraploid (2n = 44), was confirmed and additionally triploid, pentaploid and hexaploid ploidy levels identified using flow cytometry. Allozyme variation as well as morphological and genome size data suggest an autopolyploid origin of the tetraploids. Crossing experiments and flow cytometric screening of mixed populations revealed strong reproductive isolation of the cytotypes. Multivariate morphometric analysis revealed significant differentiation between the cytotypes in several morphological characters (pappus length, length and colour of appendages on involucral bracts, involucre width). The cytotypes have a parapatric distribution with only a small contact zone: diploids occupy the whole of the Central and North European geographic range of the species except for the major part of the Western Carpathians, whereas tetraploids are confined to the Western Carpathians and adjacent areas, both cytotypes co-occurring only in a limited area of intra-montane basins of the Western Carpathians. Based on this array of data, taxonomic treatment of the cytotypes as autonomous species is proposed. The name Centaurea phrygia is applied to the diploids and the name C. erdneri belongs to the tetraploids; nomenclature of hybrids with C. jacea is also resolved.
