Léčba diabetes mellitus 2. typu je v současnosti účinná, ale bohužel ještě není ideální. Novou skupinu perorálních antidiabetik představují DPP4 inhibitory, tzv. gliptiny. V roce 2015 byla ukončena již 3. velká mortalitní klinická studie s gliptiny u pacientů s diabetes mellitus 2. typu a kardiovaskulárním onemocněním. Jedná se o studie TECOS, SAVOR a EXAMINE s léky sitagliptin, saxagliptin a alogliptin. Studie zahrnuly téměř 37 000 nemocných. Tyto studie prokázaly kardiovaskulární bezpečnost DPP4 inhibitorů, přesto ale zůstává otevřená otázka výskytu srdečního selhání. Prokázaná je i účinnost na snižování glykemie, resp. glykovaného hemoglobinu a bezpečnost z pohledu onemocnění pankreatu. DPP4 inhibitors (gliptins) are a new group of peroral antidiabetic drugs. The third clinical mortality study with gliptins in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 was finished in 2015. The studies are known under acronym TECOS, SAVOR and EXAMINE and the tested drugs are sitagliptin, saxagliptin and alogliptin. The studies included about 37 000 patients. The studies confirmed the cardiovascular safety of the DPP4 inhibitors, but the question about increased heart failure remains open. The effectiveness of lowering glycaemia (glycated haemoglobin) was confirmed and also the pancreatic safety is confirmed. Nineteen traditional Anabaena morphospecies were found in freshwater habitats in Cuba. Their taxonomic identification is discussed and variation in natural populations described. Seven species are known only from tropical countries (A. ambigua, A. fuellebornii, A. iyengarii, A. oblonga, A. orientalis, A. recta, A. volzii), four from tropical America (A. manguinii, A. portoricensis, A. torques-reginae, A. unispora), one was originally described from southern Africa (A. austro-africana) and one from central Asia (A. turkestanica). Two taxa are recognized as new species (A. hatueyi, A. jeejiae) and two remain unidentified (Anabaena spp.) because of a shortage of material. Only two species, A. cf. reniformis and A. cf. bornetiana, may occur also in the temperate zone (Europe or North America) and as special morphotypes in Cuba.
The taxonomic status of the aphid parasitoid Aphidius colemani Viereck has been questioned, especially in regard to Aphidius transcaspicus Telenga (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). The genetic association between A. colemani and A. transcaspicus was studied by cross mating individuals of A. colemani and A. transcaspicus (A.c.& × A.t.% and A.c.% × A.t.&) and applying appropriate molecular methods. The cross mating resulted in offspring (female and males) that were fertile. Therefore, the cross mating assays performed in an artificial environment showed that these two populations are potentially compatible. The mean number of mummies that developed and the sex ratio of the offspring of each cross were similar. Most of the male and female offspring from each cross were assigned to A. transcaspicus. Furthermore, the genetic divergence between the ribosomal internal transcribed spacers (ITS2) of the A. colemani and A. transcaspicus studied was 16%. These results indicate that A. colemani might be a complex of species with different morphological and biological characters attacking different host aphids.
The first and third larval stages of Nearctic Anisotoma blanchardi (Horn, 1880) are described in detail and figured for the first time; measurements and chaetotaxy of head, mouthparts, thorax, abdomen, leg and urogomphi are given. Larval morphology of the blanchardi group is discussed. The blanchardi species group, proposed after a study of adult characters, is very important phylogenetically because it is a basal group in the genus and sister group to all the remaining groups. Larval characters confirm the monophyly of the group. The common larval characters of the blanchardi species group are: (i) presence of primary setae below the posterior row of terga, (ii) secondary microsculpture on the head, dense, present from the base of the head to the anterolateral arms of the epicranial suture and fronto-clypeal furrow, (iii) sclerotization around sockets of primary posterior setae of thorax of instar III, (iv) presence of clypeal furrow in the third stage, (v) presence of setae Dc1, Dd1, Dc2, Dd2a on head in instar III, (vi) urogomphomere 1 and 2 similar in length and proportion.
An important form of State control of the churches and their repression under Communist rule was the education of young clergymen at the faculties of theology. After 1953, the only officially permitted Roman Catholic faculty of theology was in the Bohemian town of Litoměřice. The author, an important journalist and novelist in the period following the Changes of late 1989, studied there from 1984 to 1989. In the form of personal memoirs he describes the faculty in those days. It was not academically strong, and seminary life served more to control future clergymen (since graduating from the faculty was a necessary condition for subsequent work with the Church) than it was to provide space for spiritual development. Though the students had to be screened by the secret police, which had tried to lure them into collaboration even at the entrance exams, they were defi nitely not pro-regime. That is particularly true of members of the secret religious Orders. In the second half of the 1980s no one even bothered anymore to persuade students of the necessity of changing one’s anti-Communist attitude. As long as one did not make this attitude clear, the system worked. Theologians themselves could thus not be certain whether they were part of the “visible,” collaborating Church, or were part of the opposition, because simply by having entered the faculty they had made it clear what they thought about the establishment’s Marxist ideology. The situation at the Roman Catholic faculty of theology (which by its subservience to the State authorities brought to mind the general seminaries of the eighteenth century in the reign of Joseph II) thus basically resembled the situation throughout the “official” Church in the Bohemian Lands and throughout Czech society as well.
