Recenzovaná kniha vypráví příběh amerického města Gary, které bylo založeno počátkem dvacátého století poblíž Chicaga jako tehdy supermoderní a příkladné průmyslové centrum koncernu US Steel. Podle recenzenta se autor metodologicky inspiroval řadou urbánních kulturalistických studií a prezentuje na jednom výrazném případě proces americké industrializace s jejím prudkým vzestupem, slávou a úpadkem, sociálními konflikty a environmentálními problémy. Snaží se přitom zachytit také proměňující se vnímání města ve veřejném mínění, u jeho vlastních obyvatel a v konstrukcích poválečných narativů industrializace., The book under review tells the story of Gary, Indiana, a town that was founded near Chicago, in the early twentieth century, as the exemplary ultra-modern industrial centre of US Steel. According to the reviewer, the author’s method is influenced by a number of works on urban culture, and presents the process of American industrialization with its rapid rise, fame, and fall, social conflicts, and environmental problems, using this one striking example, Gary. The author has also sought to identify the changing perceptions of the town in public opinion, amongst its own inhabitants, and in the constructions of post-war narratives of industrialization., and [autor recenze] Dalibor Vácha.
The history of Olomouc book printing remains mostly unexplored. Literature often brings distorted information, which must first be verified by studying sources. An example may be the Olomouc printer Vít Jindřich Ettel (+ 1669), about whom some researchers have accumulated a large amount of unverified or misleading information. Nevertheless, numerous archival sources from which it is possible to reconstruct the life and activities of this book printer are available as well. Attention should, however, also be paid to his wife, Anna Alžběta Ettelová, who, after her husband’s death, administered the local printing house alone for three years (until January 1673). Multiple archival sources make it possible to study her activities in further detail and to learn more not only abo, Miroslav Myšák., Obsahuje anglický abstrakt a shrnutí., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Metabasic rocks of the Želešice type were one of the most intensively utilized raw materials used for the manufacture of Neolithic polished industry in the Middle Danube region. Primary sources are located in the Ophiolite Belt (formerly Metabasite Zone) of the Brno Batholith, approximately 5 km SW of Brno. All sites represent secondary workshops that are not located at the outcrops. Quarrying at the outcrops has not been directly confirmed for this period. The focus of this work is a complex description of a unique primary workshop recently discovered nearby primary outcrops. Recently obtained data has revealed new information about the lithic operational stages, morphology, dimensions and procurement of the raw material. Petrographic analysis reveals several subvarieties of metabasic rocks which were utilized to different degrees. Another goal of this work is to add to the debate regarding terminology of workshop sites., Jaroslav Bartík, Lukáš Krmíček, Tereza Rychtaříková, Petr Škrdla., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Theatrical activities of Václav Mihule (1758 - after 1808) are documented at his various positions in 19 European cities. Born in Prague Mihule left his home at a young age. His earliest experience was as an actor (1781-89), traveling to distant places such as Warszawa (1781), St. Peterburg (1784-86), Königsberg (1787-88), Mainz and Frankfurt a. M. (1788-89). His first Prague ensemble (1789) was a collaboration with Jean Butteau, the company played at ThunPalace Theatre at the Lesser Town of Prague. Later he directed the ensemble Vlastenské divadlo (Patriotic Theatre) in the Theatre U Hybernů (in summer in Karlovy Vary) and the German company at the Nostitz Theatre. After his abrupt departure from Prague in mid 1793 he became a theatre director in Augsburg (1793-94), in Nürnberg, Ansbach, Erlangen, Ulm and Nördlingen (1794-97), Stuttgart (1797), Wiener Neustadt (1797/98), Olomouc (1800-02), Opava (1802-04), Prešov (1805) a Košice (1804-08). He seems to have ended his career in Košice, where he may have died. In the time from 21. 12. 1796 till 13. 9. 1797 he led on lease the Court Theatre Company of Friedrich Eugen II. of Württemberg in Stuttgart. It was in Stuttgart for the first time, when the Court Theatre was rented to a theatre entrepreneur. The Duke tryed in this way to keep the theatre running in the bad economic situation in the course of the War of the First Coalition (1792-1797). For the director Mihule was the offered contract for 6 years - after experience with various theaters in the cities - an extraordinary occasion to achieve a firmly established place of work with above standard conditions. It is possible to describe and characterize the Stuttgart period of the entrepreneur Mihule on the basis of archive documents and account books (aspect of organization) and periodicals (theatre repertory). a1_Studie na základě textů z dobových československých časopisů a denního tisku ukazuje, jak se od padesátých do osmdesátých let dvacátého století v Československu proměňoval obraz jaderné energie a energetiky a jaké místo v něm v této souvislosti zaujímaly otázky životního prostředí. Otázka zde nikdy nezněla, jestli jaderná energetika ano, či ne, ale jak při jejím rozvoji zajistit dostatečnou ochranu životního prostředí a bezpečnost jaderných elektráren., Based on textx excerpted from Czechoslovak periodicals and dailies of that time the study shos changes of the image of nuclear power and nuclear energy in Czechoslovakia between the 1950s and the 1980s, as well as the position of environmental issues in it. In the 1950s, the image prevailing in periodicals and dailies was that of harnessed and transformed nature, with the anticipated arrival of nuclear power plants presented as a natural replacement of coal-fired plants necessitated by limited coal reserves. At that time there were no doubts about the ''cleanliness'' of nuclear power plants. In the decades that followed, the strategy of authors, often experts in the field and promoters of science, changed, as the ''nuclear optimism'' was ebbing. They started, albeit cautiously, admitting a possibility of health; however, referring to accurate data, they were also downplaying the risk, claiming it was highly unlikely. The authoress contextualizes the Czechoslovak nuclear energy discourse, showing that there were no significant differences from the general ''nuclear optimism'' prevailing in the Soviet Union, United States or France; however, since the mid-1960s, and particularly since the following decade, the shape and form of the discourse in the Soviet Bloc diverged from that in the West considerably. In Czechoslovakia, the discourse was monopolized and no texts questioning the Czechoslovak orientation on nuclear energy could be officially published. The inertia of the positive image of nuclear power in Czechoslovak journalism was made possible not only by the socialist dictatorship, but also by a continuity of authors. In this respect, there were never a question whether to use nuclear power or not; the question was how to develop it in a way guaranteeing a sufficient level of environmental protection and safety of nuclear power plants., and Obsahuje bibliografii a bibliografické odkazy
According to A. Přichystal’s classifi cation (cf. 2010), siliceous weathering products are classifi ed into the SiO2 minerals group. This study presents results of the analysis of collections gathered together in southern and south-western Moravia, and contributes to their more precise petrographic and cultural classifi cation. The authors introduce a new type of local siliceous weathering products as the Malhostovice type. The article presents the results of house plot research in the historical core of Mikulcice-village in the southeastern Moravia. Remains of sunken storage rooms representing parts of surface houses dated to the Late Middle Ageswere uncovered underneath a more recent structure. This evidence sheds new light on the vernacular architectureof the period and has provided an array of artefacts representing the inventory of rural homesteads for two chronological periods (end of the 14th century- 1st half of the 15th century and the last quarter of the 15th century-turnof the 15/16th century).
