To explore the cause of difference in photosynthetic performance between different cultivars of crops, leaf net photosynt rate (PN) and photosystem 2 (PS2) photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), apparent quantum yield of carbon assimilation (φc), electron transport rate, photophosphorylation activity, etc. were measured in two soybean cultivars, Heinong 42 and Heinong 37. At pod setting and filling, significant differences in PN between them were observed. The former with a higher PN (from 7 to 38 %) had a significantly higher leaf thickness, leaf dry mass/area (LMA), chlorophyll content, soluble protein content, apparent quantum yield of electron transport through PS2 (φe), carboxylation efficiency (CE), and ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPC) activity. The significantly higher PN of Heinong 42 is mainly due to its higher content and activity of RuBPC. and Hua Jiang, Da-Quan Xu.
The case study of a ground steps creation due to underground mining in Upper Silesia Basin, where for many years was conducted intensive hard coal extraction has been presented in this paper. This type of linear discontinuous deformations is considered as an important threat to the surface building constructions and elements of underground technical infrastructure. This threat is even more important, that presently still we do not have methods for predictions of such phenomena, and protection of building constructions against such damages is difficult, if not impossible. On the basis of the analyzes results shown in the paper, the following factors were pointed, that favor the formation of mining-induced ground steps: the presence of fault outcrops in the vicinity of extraction fields, multiple extraction in several coal seams led to the same border and large values of tensile horizontal strain., Piotr Strzałkowski and Roman Ścigała., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
Prediction of the final transferred fat volume is essential for the success of fat grafting, but remains elusive. Between 20 and 80 % of the initial transplanted volume can be creabsorbed. Although graft survival has many determinants, CD34+ progenitor cells from the vascular stroma of adipose tissue play a central role by promoting growth of blood vessels and adipocytes. We aimed to verify the hypothesis that a higher proportion of total CD34+ cells in the transplant is associated with better preservation of the graft volume. Human lipoaspirates from 16 patients were processed by centrifugation and two grafts per donor were subcutaneously injected into 32 nude mice in 1 ml volumes in the right upper flank area. The volume of each graft was measured using a preclinical MRI scanner immediately after grafting and at three months. The percentage of CD34+ cells in the graft before implantation was determined by flow cytometry. The final graft volume at three months after implantation directly correlated with the percentage of CD34+ cells in the grafted material (r = 0.637, P = 0.019). The minimum retention of the fat graft was 28 % and the maximum retention was 81 %, with an average of 54 %. Our study found that fat retention after fat transfer directly correlated with the fraction of CD34+ cells in the graft. The simple and fast determination of the CD34+ cell percentage on site can help predicting outcomes of fat transplantation. and Corresponding authors: Ondřej Měšťák, Luděk Šefc
The present nuclear and cell body diameter measurements demonstrated size differences of the approximate cell space estimate occupied by the cell nucleus during the cell differentiation in lymphocytic, granulocytic and erythroid cell lineages. These lineages were used as convenient models because all differentiation steps were easily identified and accessible in diagnostic peripheral blood or bone marrow smears of blood donors (BDs), patients suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and refractory anemia (RA) of the myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The cell space occupied by the nucleus was constant and did not change during the cell differentiation in the lymphocytic cell lineages of BDs and CLL patients despite the decreased cell size. In contrary, the cell space occupied by the nucleus markedly decreased in differentiating cells of granulocytic and erythroid lineages of patients suffering from CML. In the erythroid cell lineage in patients with RA of MDS the small reduction of the cell space occupied by the nucleus during the differentiation was not significant. The measurements also indicated that in progenitor cells of all studied cell lineages nuclei occupied more than 70 % of the cell space. Thus, the nucleus-cytoplasmic morphological and functional equilibrium appeared to be characteristic for each differentiation step and each specific cell lineage., Karel Smetana, Hana Klamová, Dana Mikulenková, Jaroslav Čermák, Petra Otevřelová, Josef Karban, Marek Trněný., and Obsahuje bibliografii
We compute the central heights of the full stability groups S of ascending series and of descending series of subspaces in vector spaces over fields and division rings. The aim is to develop at least partial right analogues of results on left Engel elements and related nilpotent radicals in such S proved recently by Casolo & Puglisi, by Traustason and by the current author. Perhaps surprisingly, while there is an absolute bound on these central heights for descending series, for ascending series the central height can be any ordinal number., Bertram A. F. We discuss and criticise the contention of Colombo (2012) that the central-marginal model does not apply to three species of chromosomally polymorphic acridid grasshoppers, and that chromosomal clines in these species are a consequence of temperature gradients. We also discuss Colombo’s interpretation of our own results on the South American melanopline grasshopper, Dichroplus pratensis Bruner., Claudio J. Bidau, Dardo A. Affordable housing is the biggest challenge being faced by the city of Mumbai, which styles itself as an emerging Global Financial Centre. The city has the image of being home to a stark dualism, with slums abutting modern skyscrapers. Over the years, adequate policy attention has been given to slums and with the implementation of the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme slum dwellers are being provided with housing in multi-storey buildings and are being granted tenancy rights to the dwellings. However, an emerging area of concern is the large housing stock that is non-slum but is old and dilapidated. The collapse of an old and dilapidated building in Dongri in July 2019 that killed twelve people and the one at Bhendi Bazaar in 2017 that killed thirty-three has brought this problem into the mainstream and new policies have been initiated to address the problem. Implementing these policies seems to be a challenge, and this is the result of different factors. This article looks at the housing problem in Mumbai from a policy perspective and analyses the implementation challenges of the new policy aimed at redeveloping the old and dilapidated housing stock.
Laboratory rats were exposed to the inhalation of dust from an agglomeration unit which is the greatest contributor to dust pollution in the vicinity of a mercury producing plant. The exposure lasted for 6 months (4 hours daily, 5 days per week), the concentration of aerosol in the chamber was 10 mg.m-3. After finishing the exposure, the animals were examined and compared with the controls which were held under standard laboratory conditions. The number of alveolar macrophages was highly elevated (P<0.001) in the exposed animals, Mg24 ATPase activity in the heart muscle was decreased. The alanine aminotransferase activity in the serum was not changed, the aspartate aminotransferase was slightly enhanced. No differences in the frequency of abnormal sperm and in the frequency of polychromatic erythrocytes in bone marrow were detected.
Male Wistar rats adapted to a light/dark cycle (LD) 12:12 h were exposed in the darkness to a single dose of 14.35 Gy gamma rays on the head with the body shielded. Irradiated and sham-irradiated rats were kept again in the 12 h LD cycle with a free access to food and water till the analysis performed in the darkness. Pineal N-acetyltransferase activity and melatonin content, the serum concentration of the melatonin, corticosterone, thyrotropin and thyroid hormones were determined. N-acetyltransferase activity was lower 2-24 h after irradiation non-significantly whereas between 3-10 days it did not differ from the controls. Radiation decreased the pineal melatonin content and its serum concentration 2 h after exposure and increased them significantly 1-3 days after irradiation. No changes in melatonin levels were found on postirradiation days 5-10. The corticosterone concentration was increased 2 h after exposure only. Local head irradiation changed neither thyrotropin nor thyroid hormone levels.
The aim of the paper is to trace the development of the grammatical structure of the vernacular (colloquial) Chinese language through the changes which took place in the grammatical system (specifically in the system of function words) during the 3rd-14th centuries. In other words, I intend to closely follow the entire process of the changes from the moment the function element originated up to its status (or disappearance) in the modern language. To fulfill the task a thorough examination of an extensive body of source-material was undertaken. A precise selection of the source-material was the first step towards a successful response to the proposed project. With regard to the paper under consideration the following source-materials were carefully examined: the early Chinese translations of the Buddhist works (as the main source) for the Liuchao epoch, the Chan-Buddhist yulu for the Tang, the texts in the ss genre and San Chao bei meng hui bian for the Song-Yuan period. The essay consists of three parts: the grammar of the 3rd-5th cc A.D., or Liuchao period, Chinese grammar of the Tang Dynasty, and the changes undergone during the Song-Yuan epoch.
