In the three presented newspaper articles from 1920s, Soviet writer Andrei Platonov criticizes the exploitation of the earth and human alienation from nature in the context of the Russian famine of 1921–1922, pointing to solar energy as the basis for socialist development. Introduced by Monika Woźniak and translated by Thomas H. Campbell.
Andrej Hlinka, the Catholic priest and Slovak patriot, was a key Slovak politician of the first half of the 20th century. He was a founder of the Slovak People's Party. He was persecuted by the Hungarian authorities for his Slovak political activities. He was imprisoned for two years in 1906 and was also suspended from the priesthood by Sander Párvy, the bishop of Spiš. However, the canonical process in Rome cleared Hlinka from all accusations and Párvy had to restore him to his parish in Ružomberok after he left prison. In 1918 Hlinka became a member of the Slovak National Council and advocated the separation of Slovakia from Hungary and its unification with the Czech Lands. In the First Czechoslovak Republic he was permanently elected deputy to the House of Deputies of the Czechoslovak National Assembly. However, Hlinka was not satisfied with the centralist model of Czechoslovakia and advocated Slovak autonomy. He died in August 1938. and Článek zahrnuje poznámkový aparát pod čarou
Anemia frequently complicates chronic kidney disease (CKD). We investigated here the effect of adenine-induced CKD in rats on erythrocyte count (EC), hematocrit (PCV) and hemoglobin (Hb) concentration, as well as on the activity of L-γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and the concentrations of iron (Fe), transferrin (Tf), ferritin (F), total iron binding capacity (TIBC) / unsaturated iron binding capacity (UIBC) and hepcidin (Hp) in serum and erythropoietin (Epo) in renal tissue. Renal damage was assessed histopathologically, and also by measuring the serum concentrations of the uremic toxin indoxyl sulfate (IS), creatinine, and urea, and by creatinine clearance. We also assessed the influence of concomitant treatment with gum acacia (GA) on the above analytes. Adenine feeding induced CKD, accompanied by significant decreases (P<0.05) in EC, PCV, and Hb, and in the serum concentrations of Fe, Tf, TIBC, UIBC and Epo. It also increased Hp and F levels. GA significantly ameliorated these changes in rats with CKD. A general improvement in the renal status of rats with CKD after GA is shown due to its antiinflammatory and anti-oxidant actions, and reduction of the uremic toxin IS, which is known to suppress Epo production, and this may be a reason for its ameliorative actions on the indices of anemia studied., B. The orientation of the Earth is defined by Earth orientation parameters that are measured by space geodetic techniques. The results provided by these techniques differ from each other. The method presented here combines these results in order to get a representative solution of the Earth orientation parameters. Other products of the method are improved coordinates and velocities of collocations stations distributed on six major and two minor tectonic plates. The fact that the stations lie on their plates gives us possibility to describe movements of these plates during our data interval. All new results are compared with the ones published by ITRF 2005 and presented hereafter., Vojtěch Štefka., and Obsahuje bibliografii
