RNA editing is post-transcriptional modification to RNA molecules. In plants, RNA editing primarily occurs to two energy-producing organelles: plastids and mitochondria. Organelle RNA editing is often viewed as a mechanism of correction to compensate for defects or mutations in haploid organelle genomes. A common type of organelle RNA editing is deamination from cytidine to uridine. Cytidine-to-uridine plastid RNA editing is carried out by the RNA editing complex which consists of at least four types of proteins: pentatricopeptide repeat proteins, RNA editing interacting proteins/multiple organellar RNA editing factors, organelle RNA recognition motif proteins, and organelle zinc-finger proteins. The four types of RNA editing factors work together to carry out RNA editing site recognition, zinc cofactor binding, and cytidine-to-uridine deamination. In addition, three other types of proteins have been found to be important for plastid RNA editing. These additional proteins may play a regulatory or stabilizing role in the RNA editing complex., Y. Coordinated regulation of apoptosis is critical for development, homeostasis, and immunity in larvae of Metazoa. We determined the full nucleotide sequence of an inhibitor of an apoptosis protein in a lepidopteran insect Mythimna separata (Walker) (MsIAP) and carried out functional analyses of the MsIAP. The full-length cDNA of MsIAP was 1642 bp, which encoded 379 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of 41,834 Da, and two BIR domains and one RING domain revealed using amino acid sequence analysis. In addition, the sequences of these domains were similar to Drosophila IAP1 and those of some other lepidopteran insects. We carried out a functional analyses of MsIAP related to apoptosis regulation using RNA interference. The effects of MsIAP knockdown on adhering hemocytes and non-adhering hemocytes as controls were examined using Hoechst33342/propidium iodide staining, effector caspase activity and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) staining. A significantly higher number of propidium iodide and TUNEL-positive cells was recorded in adhering hemocytes from MsIAP knockdown larvae than from control larvae, but these differences were not recorded for non-adhering hemocytes. However, higher effector caspase activity was detected in both adhering and non-adhering hemocytes from MsIAP knockdown larvae compared to that in control larvae. These results indicate that the knockdown of MsIAP induces apoptosis in larval adhering hemocytes, which MsIAP negatively and non-redundantly regulate apoptosis, and that IAP function is conserved in M. separata and other insect species including Drosophila and several lepidopteran insects., Masashi Kamezaki, Kakeru Yokoi, Ken Miura., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Hvězdoše patří k nejběžnějším a přitom nejvíce přehlíženým vodním rostlinám naší květeny. Všechny opylovací systémy se pak u hvězdošů kombinují s ojedinělými a kuriózními způsoby samoopylení., Water-starworts (Callitriche) are some of the most common and yet largely overlooked aquatic plants in European flora. They are characterized by overall reduction of the plant body and also exhibit an extraordinary phenotypic plasticity in response to environmental changes, which makes the starwort species very difficult to determine. It is the only genus known to possess all three types of pollination: by air, on the water surface and under water, in addition to some unique self-fertilization mechanisms., and Jan Prančl.
In the CR located on the bio-geographical crossroads of Central Europe, several vegetation types reach their distribution limit here, whereas only three vegetation types and complexes unique or significantly concentrated here are identified: grasslands in the White Carpathian Mts. (the world’s highest number of vascular plant species per certain areas smaller than 50 m2); sandstone pseudokarst landscapes (sharply contrasting vegetation at very short distances); fishponds (specific vegetation especially on their exposed bottoms when drained). and Milan Chytrý, Handrij Härtel, Kateřina Šumberová.
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the mitochondrial alternative oxidase (AOX) pathway on energy metabolism in chloroplasts, and evaluate the importance of the AOX in alleviating drought-induced photoinhibition in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). Inhibition of AOX pathway decreased photosynthesis and increased thermal energy dissipation in plants under normal conditions. It indicated that AOX pathway could influence chloroplast energy metabolism. Drought reduced carbon assimilation. Photoinhibition was caused by excess of absorbed light energy in spite of the increase of thermal energy dissipation and cyclic electron flow around PSI (CEF-PSI). Upregulation of AOX pathway in leaves experiencing drought would play a critical role in protection against photoinhibition by optimization of carbon assimilation and PSII function, which would avoid over-reduction of photosynthetic electron transport chain. However, inhibition of AOX pathway could be compensated by increasing the thermal energy dissipation and CEF-PSI under drought stress, and the compensation of CEF-PSI was especially significant., W. The flora of the CR harbours 48 endemic (sub)species of vascular plants (plus 26 taxa considered as near-endemic). Most of them occur above the timberline in the High Sudetes Mts. while others are restricted to lowland habitats with specific edaphic or topographic features (serpentine outcrops, calcareous fens, rocks in steep river valleys). Apomicts clearly prevail (49 taxa, especially Hieracium and Sorbus). All endemics are evolutionarily young (neoendemics) and their origin is mostly associated with the Quaternary climatic oscillations. and Jan Suda, Zdeněk Kaplan.
