Publikace je překladem původního titulu The Myth and Reality of Hitler’s Secret Police (London, Hodder & Stoughton 2015). Navíc autor líčí pouze vývoj poměrů ve třetí říši, a jeho zobecňující závěry jsou tedy nepodložené., The publication is a translation of the original title The Myth and Reality of Hitler´s Secret Police (London: Hodder a. Stoughton 2915). According to the reviewer, the British historian attempts to present a new, revisionist interpretation of the role of the political police in a totalitarian society. He claims that the Nazi Secret State Police (Geheime Staatspolizei - Gestapo) was not the omnipotent, fearsome, and brutal apparatus it is purposed to have been, but rather an undermanned, overworked, and underfinanced police organization staffed mostly by former detectives, reacting mainly to denunciations submited by citizens, using lengthy and not very effective investigation methods, and sticting to legal producers. According to the reviewer who provides a fairly detailed account of the author´s interpretations, the above picture is sometimes relatively credible (in relation to churches), but not very convincing in other places (in particular in relation to Jews). Moreover, the author depicts only the situation in the Third Reich, and his generalizing conclusions are thus unfounded., [autor recenze] Karel Černý., and Obsahuje bibliografii a bibliografické odkazy
The aim of the present text is to consider 18th century language genealogies, as proposed by Rousseau and Condillac, in relation to the question of gesture and affectivity. For it seems that a certain form of affect - need in Condillac, passion in Rousseau - comes to play a central role in the speculations concerning the possible origin of human communication whose nature is invariably considered to be gestural as well as vocal. Our aim will be to show that the insights both thinkers present on the subject corresponds, quite remarkably, with certain findings of modern linguistics and psychology. It is, of course, impossible to treat the issue in all its complexity; all that we will attempt to do is concentrate on certain significant passages and pinpoint what we consider to be the most remarkable arguments., Josef Fulka., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
The study maps the as-yet unknown beginnings of the life and career of Pavel of Janovice, archdeacon of Prague, from whose activity a visitation protocol of 1379-1382 has been preserved. Those were connected with Cardinal Pietro Corsini, legate at the court of Charles IV in 1363-1364. In 1371, Pavel became a cardinal´s familiar; he acquired a doctorate in law at the university in Avignon in 1372. He was likely the one who took the official letter on the second papal election of 1378 and with that a personal letter from Corsini to Charles IV. After his arrival in Prague, Pavel used his earlier expectative and acquired the just vacated dignity of the Prague Chapter and began to visit as the archdeacon already in October of that year. A return to his cardinal was prevented by Corsini´s remaining in obedience to Avignon, whereas Bohemia remained in Roman obedience. and Zdeňka Hledíková.
Archaeological sources provide a wide range of information to help understand the social structure of human society in the past. In this paper, the authors deal with the information potential of grave pit modifi cations and wooden structures in graves at burial sites in the central region of Great Moravia (southeast Moravia, southwest Slovakia). The goal at this point is to defi ne the basic hypotheses and describe the methodological basis along with the research methodology. The authors treat the sources holistically, which means that one of the methodological foundations is the claim that the properties of the whole are not a simple sum of its parts. This means that all recognized elements of the funeral rite and their mutual relations and functions are the center of attention of this research. The primary basis for the research is the assumption that the presence of various wooden structures or wooden burial receptacles in the graves of the Great Moravian period is a common cultural occurrence. It further tests the hypothesis that there was intent behind choosing of these different wooden structures and grave pit modifi cations and their usage, as well as a potential differentiation based on age or gender in the frequency, quality and selection of these modifi cations/arrangements and structures. The main methodological tools are statistical and GIS analysis and the results are compared with published fi ndings from the wider Central European region., Marian Mazuch, Marek Hladík., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Nowadays Gregor Johann Mendel is among the most renowned Czech scientists. Although his ideas about cross-pollination of plants were ahead of their time, Mendel did not suffer from his lack of success. He was a valued abbot, popular teacher, successful breeder, beekeeper and meteorologist. and Hana Laudátová, Ondřej Dostál.
