The main aim of the present investigation was to verify the effects of three overtraining (OT) protocols performed in downhill (OTR/down), uphill (OTR/up) and without inclination (OTR) on the protein levels of Akt (Ser473), AMPKα (Thr172), PGC-1α, plasma membrane GLUT-1 and GLUT-4 as well as on the glycogen contents in mice gastrocnemius. A trained (TR) protocol was used as positive control. Rodents were divided into naïve (N, sedentary mice), control (CT, sedentary mice submitted to the performance evaluations), TR, OTR/down, OTR/up and OTR groups. At the end of the experimental protocols, gastrocnemius samples were removed and used for immunoblotting analysis as well as for glycogen measurements. There was no significant difference between the experimental groups for the protein levels of pAkt (Ser473), pAMPKα (Thr172), PGC-1α, plasma membrane GLUT-1 and GLUT-4. However, the OTR/up protocol exhibited higher contents of glycogen compared to the CT and TR groups. Regenerace kloubní chrupavky je v ortopedii velkým problémem. Regenerační proces v chrupavčité tkáni je výrazně podpořen chondrocyty a zřejmě i mezenchymálními kmenovými buňkami (MSC), a proto byla a je v posledních letech této problematice věnována velká pozornost. V České republice dochází k nárůstu výkonů, při nichž jsou pro terapii osteoartritidy používány MSC získané z tukové tkáně (a-MSC). V této indikaci považuje Česká ortopedická společnost tento postup za „non lege artis“. Přinášíme přehled dosud provedených klinických studií, jejichž úroveň neumožňuje podpořit rutinní léčbu osteoartritidy pomocí a-MSC., Regeneration of articular cartilage remains a major challenge in orthopaedics. Komunitní zdravotní péče, zvláště ve vztahu k ošetřovatelským službám, je klíčem ke zlepšení zdraví a tělesné i duševní pohody všech lidí. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, jaké jsou představy odborné a laické veřejnosti o možnostech působení sester v komunitní péči a podrobněji analyzovat jednotlivé oblasti této péče z hlediska uplatnění sester v nich. V rámci výzkumu byly předmětem zkoumání tři cílové skupiny – lékaři ČR, sestry ČR a občané ČR. Do výběrového souboru bylo zařazeno 1007 lékařů, 1005 všeobecných sester a 2022 občanů. Tito respondenti byli vybráni náhodným výběrem pomoci kvót. Následující článek je věnován interpretaci výsledků výzkumu všech cílových skupin – lékařů, sester i občanů z hlediska jejich názorů, týkajících se předpokladů a překážek, které vidí v začlenění sester do komunitní péči v České republice. Odborná i laická veřejnost vidí možnosti uplatnění sestry v komunitní péči v různých oblastech. Péče o seniory je nejvíce preferovanou oblastí ve všech skupinách. Nejdůležitějším předpokladem pro samostatnou práci sestry v komunitní péči je její předchozí klinická praxe, odpovídající zaměření komunitní péče. Hlavní překážky, které brání realizaci samostatné péče komunitních sester uvádí shodně odborná i laická veřejnost: nejasnost financování, finanční zátěž, obtížná spolupráce se zdravotními pojišťovnami, otázky legislativy – uzákonění a ustanovení kompetencí sester v ČR. Lékaři i sestry se shodují v tom, že činnost komunitních sester by měl financovat především stát, menší část respondentů si myslí, že financovat činnost těchto pracovníků by měla organizace, ve které pracují a třetím nejrozšířenějším názorem je financování krajem. Lékaři České republiky mají převážně zájem o případnou spolupráci se sestrami, působícími v oblasti komunitní péče a tuto spolupráci by přivítali. Ze strany sester však v současném období převládá v České republice nezájem o případnou práci v oblasti komunitního ošetřovatelství, který lze vysvětlit především nejasným financováním v této oblasti., The goal of the study was to ascertain the ideas of professional and lay public on the possibilities of work of nurses in community care and to analyze in more detail the individual areas of such care from the perspective of use of work of nurses in them. Three target groups consisted of 1007 physicians, 1005 general nurses and 2022 citizens. The respondents were selected by random selection with the help of quotas. Both professional and lay public sees the opportunities of use of work of the nurse in community care in different areas. Care for seniors is the mostly preferred area in all groups. The most important precondition for independent nurse’s work in community care is her preceding clinical practice corresponding to the focus of the community care. The main obstacles to implementation of independent care of community nurses are stated coincidently by professional and lay public: unclear funding, financial burden, difficult cooperation with health insurance funds, legislation questions – codification and establishment of nurse competences in the Czech Republic. Cough is one of the most important defensive reflexes. However,
extensive non- productive cough is a harmful mechanism leading
to the damage of human airways. Cough is initiated by activation
of vagal afferents in the airways. The site of their convergence is
particularly the nucleus of the solitary tract (nTS). The secondorder neurons terminate in the pons, medulla and spinal cord and
there is also the cortical and subcortical control of coughing. Upper
airway cough syndrome (UACS) – previously postnasal drip
syndrome - is one of the most common causes of chronic cough
together with asthma and gastroesophageal reflux. The main
mechanisms leading to cough in patients with nasal and sinus
diseases are postnasal drip, direct irritation of nasal mucosa,
inflammation in the lower airways, upper airway inflammation and
the cough reflex sensitization. The cough demonstrated by UACS
patients is probably due to hypersensitivity of the upper airways
sensory nerve or lower airways sensory nerve, or a combination of
both. Further studies are needed to clarify this mechanism.
Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disorder associated with upper airway muscle dysfunction. Agents that improve respiratory muscle performance may have considerable therapeutic value. We examined the effects of acute exposure to sustained and intermittent hypoxia on rat pharyngeal dilator muscle function. Additionally, we sought to test the efficacy of antioxidant treatment in ameliorating or preventing hypoxia-related muscle dysfunction. Isometric contractile and endurance properties of isolated rat sternohyoid muscle bundles were examined at 35 °C in vitro. Muscle bundles were exposed to one of four gas treatments: hyperoxia (control), sustained hypoxia (SH), intermittent hypoxia (IH) or hypoxia/reoxygenation (HR), in the absence or presence of the superoxide scavenger – Tempol (10 mM). Stress-frequency relationship was determined in response to electrical stimulation (10-100 Hz in increments of 10-20 Hz, train duration: 300 ms). Muscle performance was also assessed during repetitive muscle stimulation (40 Hz, 300 ms every 2 s for 2.5 min). Compared to control, IH and HR treatments significantly decreased sternohyoid muscle force. The negative inotropic effect of the two gas protocols was similar, but both were of lesser magnitude than the effects of SH. SH, but not IH and HR, increased muscle fatigue. Tempol significantly increased sensitivity to stimulation in all muscle preparations and caused a leftward shift in the stressfrequency relationship of IH and SH treated muscles. Tempol did not ameliorate sternohyoid muscle fatigue during SH. We conclude that Tempol increases upper airway muscle sensitivity to stimulation but only modestly ameliorates respiratory muscle weakness during intermittent and sustained hypoxic conditions in vitro. In this paper, we develop computational procedures to approximate the spectral abscissa of the switched linear system via square coordinate transformations. First, we design iterative algorithms to obtain a sequence of the least μ1 measure. Second, it is shown that this sequence is convergent and its limit can be used to estimate the spectral abscissa. Moreover, the stopping condition of Algorithm 1 is also presented. Finally, an example is carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
We present a lower and an upper bound for the second smallest eigenvalue of Laplacian matrices in terms of the averaged minimal cut of weighted graphs. This is used to obtain an upper bound for the real parts of the non-maximal eigenvalues of irreducible nonnegative matrices. The result can be applied to Markov chains.
For a graph property $\mathcal {P}$ and a graph $G$, we define the domination subdivision number with respect to the property $\mathcal {P}$ to be the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided (where each edge in $G$ can be subdivided at most once) in order to change the domination number with respect to the property $\mathcal {P}$. In this paper we obtain upper bounds in terms of maximum degree and orientable/non-orientable genus for the domination subdivision number with respect to an induced-hereditary property, total domination subdivision number, bondage number with respect to an induced-hereditary property, and Roman bondage number of a graph on topological surfaces.
It is one of the fundamental and challenging problems to determine the node numbers of hidden layers in neural networks. Various efforts have been made to study the relations between the approximation ability and the number of hidden nodes of some specific neural networks, such as single-hidden-layer and two-hiddenlayer feedforward neural networks with specific or conditional activation functions. However, for arbitrary feedforward neural networks, there are few theoretical results on such issues. This paper gives an upper bound on the node number of each hidden layer for the most general feedforward neural networks called multilayer perceptrons (MLP), from an algebraic point of view. First, we put forward the method of expansion linear spaces to investigate the algebraic structure and properties of the outputs of MLPs. Then it is proved that given k distinct training samples, for any MLP with k nodes in each hidden layer, if a certain optimization problem has solutions, the approximation error keeps invariant with adding nodes to hidden layers. Furthermore, it is shown that for any MLP whose activation function for the output layer is bounded on R, at most k hidden nodes in each hidden layer are needed to learn k training samples.
