Lidské papilomaviry jsou v centru pozornosti jako původci mnoha benigních i maligních onemocnění ženského genitálu. V posledních desetiletích byl učiněn významný pokrok ve výzkumu v oblasti virové genetiky, etiopatogeneze, prevence a léčby papilomavirových infekcí.
