2. On the q-Pell sequences and sums of tails

- We examine the q-Pell sequences and their applications to weighted partition theorems and values of L-functions. We also put them into perspective with sums of tails. It is shown that there is a deeper structure between two-variable generalizations of Rogers-Ramanujan identities and sums of tails, by offering examples of an operator equation considered in a paper published by the present author. The paper starts with the classical example offered by Ramanujan and studied by previous authors noted in the introduction. Showing that simple combinatorial manipulations give rise to an identity published by the present author, a weighted form of a Lebesgue partition theorem is given as the main application to partitions. The conclusion of the paper summarizes some directions for further research, pointing out that certain conditions on the q-polynomial would be desired, and also possibly looking at the operator equation in the present paper from the position of using modular forms., Alexander E. 3. Photothermal spectra of thylakoids isolated from cucumber cotyledons at various stages of greening

- The character of interaction between carotenoids (Cars) and chlorophylls (Chls) in thylakoids isolated from cucumber cotyledons at three stages of greening (3, 6, and 24 h of irradiation with 120 µmol m-2 s-1) was studied. The shapes of the steady state photoacoustic spectra were changed with the change in time of greening and with the frequency of radiation modulation. The shapes show that changes not only in the contents of various pigments but also in pigment interactions with surrounding occur and that processes of thermal deactivation characterised by different kinetics take place. Slow processes of thermal deactivation are in most cases due to deactivation of triplet states. Long living triplet states are very often engaged in photochemical reactions that can destroy the tissue. Analysis of the time-resolved photothermal spectra shows that at later stage of greening, the chlorophyll (Chl) molecules are better shielded against photo-destruction because Cars more efficiently quench their triplet states. The yield of formation of the pigment triplet states measured by the time resolved photothermal method, always at the same energy absorbed by pigment mixture, declined during sample greening. The decay time of the slow component of pigment thermal deactivation, due predominantly to deactivation of the triplet state of Chl, decreases with the increase of time of greening from 6.2 µs for the 3-h sample to 1.5 µs for the 24 h sample. The energy taken by Cars from Chls is dissipated into heat, therefore the steady state and quick thermal deactivation values increased during the greening process. The Cars/Chls ratio in the thylakoids decreased during greening approximately 2 fold. 4. Ritacestus gen. n. (Cestoda: Proteocephalidea) and redescription of R. ritaii comb. n., a parasite of Rita rita (Siluriformes) in India

- A new genus, Ritacestus, is proposed to accommodate Ritacestus ritaii (Verma, 1926) comb. n. (syn. Proteocephalus ritaii), a parasite of the catfish Rita rita (Hamilton) in India. The new genus, which is placed in the Gangesiinae, is characterized by (i) a small, subspherical scolex formed by four large lobes separated from one another by longitudinal grooves, with a large, widely oval to pyriform rostellum-like apical organ, larger than suckers and possessing an apical hemispherical depression; (ii) paramuscular and cortical position of some vitelline follicles (most follicles are situated medullary); (iii) ventral and dorsal bands of vitelline follicles usually uninterrupted ventral to terminal genitalia and reaching to the posterior margin of proglottides; (iv) the vagina always anterior to the cirrus-sac; (v) a large size of the body (length up to 51 cm); and (vi) development of the uterus of type 2. In its morphology, especially shape of the scolex and apical organ, and paramuscular and cortical position of some vitelline follicles, Ritacestus resembles Postgangesia Akhmerov, 1969, but differs in the presence of a genital atrium (both genital pores of Postgangesia are separate), the anterior position of the vagina (almost always posterior in the latter genus), position of vitelline follicles in cross sections (dorsal and ventral bands in Ritacestus versus only a lateral band in the latter genus), and dorsal excretory canals indistinguishable in mature and gravid proglottides of R. ritaii (well developed in Postgangesia spp.). The type and only species of the genus, R. ritaii, is redescribed on the basis of new material from the type host from the Ganges River basin in India and its neotype is designated.
