- Description:
- The photosynthetic responses to elevated CO2 concentration (EC) at ambient and ambient +4°C temperature were aßsessed in the second leaf of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings. The duration of different leaf developmental phases, as characterised by changes in photosynthetic pigment contents and photochemical potential, was protracted in the seedlings grown under EC. On the other hand, a temporal shift in the phases of development with an early onset of senescence was observed in the seedlings grown under EC at ambient +4°C temperature. The contents of carotenoids, ß-carotene, and xanthophyll cycle pigments revealed that EC downregulated the protective mechanism of photosynthetic apparatus against oxidative damages, whereas this mechanism assumed higher significance under EC at ambient +4°C temperature. We observed an enhancement in electron transport activity, photochemical potential, and net photosynthesis in spite of a loss in photostasis of photosynthesis under EC. On the other hand, the loss in photostasis of photosynthesis was exacerbated under EC at ambient +4°C temperature due to the decline in electron transport activity, photochemical potential, and net photosynthesis., S. 3. On stability and the Łojasiewicz exponent at infinity of coercive polynomials

- Subject:
- coercivity, stability of coercivity, and Łojasiewicz exponent at infinity
- Language:

- Description:
- In this article we analyze the relationship between the growth and stability properties of coercive polynomials. For coercive polynomials we introduce the degree of stable coercivity which measures how stable the coercivity is with respect to small perturbations by other polynomials. We link the degree of stable coercivity to the Łojasiewicz exponent at infinity and we show an explicit relation between them.

4. Orthomodular lattices with state-separated noncompatible pairs

- Subject:
- orthomodular lattice, state, noncompatible pairs, and (quasi)variety
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- In the logico-algebraic foundation of quantum mechanics one often deals with the orthomodular lattices (OML) which enjoy state-separating properties of noncompatible pairs (see e.g. [18], [9] and [15]). These properties usually guarantee reasonable “richness” of the state space—an assumption needed in developing the theory of quantum logics. In this note we consider these classes of OMLs from the universal algebra standpoint, showing, as the main result, that these classes form quasivarieties. We also illustrate by examples that these classes may (and need not) be varieties. The results supplement the research carried on in 1], [3], [4], [5], [6], [11], [12], [13] and [16].
