- Description:
- From November 1997 to June 1998, 3,118 specimens of Echinogammarus stammeri (Karaman, 1931) (Amphipoda) were collected from the River Brenta (Northern Italy) and examined for larval helminths. Larvae of Polymorphus minuius (Goeze, 1782) singly infected the hemocoel of 23 (0.74%) crustaceans; all these larvae were cystacanth stages. This is the first record of Polymorphus minuius in E. stammeri. Some cystacanths had their forebody and hindbody fully inverted. Parasites were bright orange in colour and each was surrounded by a thin acellular envelope. This envelope likely protects the developing parasite larva from cellular responses of the amphipod. Hemocytes were seen adherent to the outer surface of the envelope. The sex ratio among the parasitised E. stammeri was almost 1:1. All Polymorphus minutus larvae were central in the amphipod body, made intimate contact with host internal organs, and frequently induced a marked displacement of them. None of the infected females of E. stammeri. carried eggs or juveniles in their brood pouch. In five hosts, Polymorphus minuius co-occurrcd with the cystacanth of another acanlhocephalan, Pomphorhynchus laevis (Millier, 1776), a parasite offish.

4. Maß- und Geldeinheiten in den deutschen Übersetzungen des "Revisors" von N. Gogol

- Description:

- Description:
- Four myxosporean species were found on the gills of Ictiobus bubalus from Illinois (USA). Myxobolus endovasus (Davis, 1947) Grinham et Cone, 1990 is revised. Three new species are recorded. Myxobolus enoblei sp. n. has spores ovoid in frontal view, 14.3 x 13 pm in size. Myxobolus morrisonae sp. n. has spores subcircular in frontal view, 10 x 9.5 pm in size; the surface of shell valves appears hairy when studied by SEM. Triangula illinoisensis sp. n. has spores rounded semicircular in frontal view, 10.2 x 12.8 pm in size. Triangula illinoisensis is the fourth species of its genus to be described from fishes.

7. Podíl českých žen na samizdatu a v disentu v Československu v období tzv. normalizace v letech 1969-1989

- Language:

- Description:
- During the so-called normalization era between 1969 and 1989, samizdat articles and books played a significant role in the resistance. They were copied by hand, unofficially distributed at home, and smuggled out of the country. Once outside, the texts were published in magazines and broadcast on foreign radio. As a result, people in Czechoslovakia were able to hear the illegal texts from foreign broadcasts. It was mainly women who performed the tasks of copying and distributing these materials, even though such activities were illegal in Czechoslovakia at the time. Yet, the activities of women are less well known than those performed by men during the same period, despite the fact that the activities women were engaged in were more dangerous than the men’s activities. The same can be said of the women in exile who helped in these illegal activities, because as yet they have gained little recognition inside or outside the country. Women’s demands and issues were not included in Charter 77 and other civic declarations. Czech women emphasised human rights and the interests of the majority rather than particular women’s issues. The incentive to notice the role of women in the resistance movement originated mainly among women in the West. Czech women did not differentiate themselves along gender lines., Jiřina Šiklová., Obsahuje bibliografii, and Anglické resumé

9. Porod jako determinanta postavení ženy ve společnosti?

- Subject:
- childbirth, woman’s status, traditional society, and cultural interpretation
- Language:

- Description:
- The gender division of people into ‘men’ and ‘women’ is valid in all, even the smallest, human groups Identification of woman or man stems from the basic relation nature v. culture. Every human society is built on this ground. The goal of this essay is to analyse in which way the childbirth determinates woman’s status in society. In case of cultural interpretation of childbearing, distinct identification of man and woman is made. The status of woman in society is derived from the main difference between men and women - the ability to give birth to progeny. Social structure which differentiates humankind from its animal progenitors is among others marked by every individual’s knowledge of his or her mother as well as father, who is perceived as ‘pater’ not as ‘genitor’. For a woman, delivery means a break point accompanied by a rite of passage. Delivery can cause a change of woman’s status. The study focuses on these questions: what is the significance of childbirth for woman and her society? What kinds of socially accepted values can influence social status of woman? How is the dichotomy mother-father created? Does the traditional social role of woman still exist in modern society?

- Subject:
- peasant women, mountainous villages, and oral history
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- The research project mostly concentrates on gender topic. I carry out research in three small mountainous villages in Northern Slovakia. I am interested in peasant people, especially women, and different aspects of their lives: Their life strategies (how they survive) in this mountainous part of Slovakia. I use the oral history method which has not been so common in Czech and Slovak research until now, but which is still one of frequently used qualitative methods. I decided to use this method because it is suitable for the aim of my project. I would like to record and preserve the remarkable stories of ordinary women’s lives in these villages. My intention is to prepare these data for further processing and analysis. I suppose that these stories would be a unique material for further studying and preservation of specific style of life which is slowly disappearing.
