- Description:
- The acidic tumor microenvironment (TME) of pancreatic cancer affects the physiological function of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs), which in turn promotes cancer progression. Acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a) is responsible for acidosis-related physiopathological processes. In this study, we investigated the effect of acid exposure on the activation and autophagy of PSCs, and the role of ASIC1a in these events. The results showed that acidic medium upregulated the expression of ASIC1a, induced PSCs activation and autophagy, which can be suppressed by inhibiting ASIC1a using PcTx1 or ASIC1a knockdown, suggesting that ASIC1a involves these two processes. In addition, the acidinduced activation of PSCs was impaired after the application of autophagy inhibitor alone or in combination with ASIC1a siRNA, meaning a connection between autophagy and activation. Collectively, our study provides evidence for the involvement of ASIC1a in the acid-caused PSCs activation, which may be associated with autophagy induction.

- Description:
- The Rom first enteredMoravia at the beginning of the fifteenth century and in the course of time their numhers increased. Because of their distincteness, different lifestyle and hehaviour the majoritě society accepted them with mistrust, uneasiness andgrowing antagonism. These negative attitudes resulted in repressive normative acts that represented the basis of restriction, banishment and persecution of the Rom immigrants. The anti-Rom manhunts started in the sixteenth century, continued and escalated in the next decades and culminated in the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The discrimination and persecution then continued, in a somewhat more moderate character, and didn ’t stop even in the rule oflaw: in the Austrian monarchy as well as in the democratic Czechoslovakia the Rom kept being citizens of the second rank.

- Description:
- The photosynthetic activities of three planktonic desmid species (Staurastrum brachiatum, Staurodesmus cuspidatus var. curvatus, and Staurastrum chaetoceras) were compared after adaptation to medium enriched with either a 20 mM Na+-phosphate (P) or HEPES buffer. Incubations up to 2 d were carried out at pH 6 or 8 under normal air or air enriched with 5 % CO2. Gross maximum photosynthetic rate (Pmax) and growth rate were decreased in both S. brachiatum and Std. cuspidatus at higher pH when using the HEPES buffer and this effect was independent of CO2 concentration, indicating that pH had an inhibitory effect on photosynthesis and growth in these species. The P-buffer at pH 8 caused a large decrease in Pmax and quantum yield for charge separation in photosystem 2 (PS2), compared to HEPES-buffered algae. This effect was very large in both S. brachiatum and Std. cuspidatus, two species characteristic of soft water lakes, but also significant in S. chaetoceras, a species dominant in eutrophic, hard water lakes. The decreased Pmax in P-buffer could not be related to a significant increase in cellular P content known to be responsible for inhibition in isolated chloroplasts. Experiments at pH 6 and 8 showed that two conditions, high pH and high Na+ concentration, both contributed to the decreased Pmax and quantum yield in the desmids. Effects of a P-buffer were less pronounced by using K+-P buffer. The use of P-buffer at pH 8 possibly resulted in high irradiance stress in all species, indicated by damage in the PS2 core complex. In the soft water species pH 8 resulted in increased non-photochemical quenching together with a high de-epoxidation state of the xanthophyll cycle pigments. and E. Spijkerman ... [et al.].

- Description:
- Thls review emphasizes the great deal of work devoted in the past 15 years to the construction of formal theories of the motion of resonant satellites. The importance of formal theories and they fundamental concepts are also discussed. We consider the kernels derived by Jefferys and Ries, Sessin and Hori for the construction of formal theories for mutually perturbing satellites. Some recent results concerning the determinations of the parameters of libration of several systems as well as the accelerations of the Galilean satellites and of Mlmas are also presented.
