Populaci využívající návrší Cezavy lze zařadit mezi skupiny živící se především smíšenou stravou s převahou rostlinných zdrojů. and The aim of the multidisciplinary analysis of bioarchaeological sources from the Cezavy site near Blučina (Brno-venkov district) was to contribute to a reconstruction of the food sources of the local population at the beginning of the Late Bronze Age. The buccal dental microwear and isotopic analyses of anthropological material indicate that the diet of all individuals was mixed; a various plant ratio was inferred in nine individuals, whereas eight individuals had a higher meat intake, of which the main source were small ruminants (sheep/goat) and domestic pig. Other sources of meat were irregular; aside from hunted game, isotope analysis showed the consumption of marine fish in three males. Since strontium isotope analysis indicated that these individuals had never migrated, the marine fish must have been brought to this territory as a preserved import. Cereal grains, roasted at the site in their spikelets and glumes, played a key role in the plant component of food. Despite not being prepared for consumption, in this form they could have been a suitable object for a burnt sacrifice. The population living on the elevated Cezavy site can be classified among groups with a mixed diet, with a predominance of plant sources.
Úmrtnostní charakteristiky mladohradištních souborů (druhá polovina 11. až 12. stol.) použitých při srovnání byly vždy relativně příznivější; lidé se oproti starším historickým obdobím dožívali vyššího věku. and This study comprises an anthropological evaluation, and the mutual comparison, of two Early Medieval populations from the Dolní Věstonice cadastre, with the aim of placing them within the broader context of previously palaeodemographically classificated Moravian populations. In all, the skeletal remains of 883 individuals from the cemetery at Dolní Věstonice – “Na Pískách” (9th first half of 10th century) and of 129 individual from the cemetery at Dolní Věstonice – “Vysoká Zahrada” (12th century). On the basis of the diagnoses of gender and age, these populations were arranged into a mortality table. In order to compare living conditions, the data obtained were contrasted to those from eight other cemeteries. The population of the Middle ‘Hillfort’ period (9th-first half of 10th century) is, from the perspective of its palaeodemographic characteristics, the more variable whole, which is expressed amongst other things by the low average life expectancy at birth and a greater child mortality rate. The mortality characteristics of the Late ‘Hillfort’ period (second half of 11th-12th century) assemblage were in all ways comparatively better: people lived to a greater age than in the earlier period.
