Thirty-five 35 participants from 13 countries gathered at Villa Lanna July 16-19, 2014 to hear and discuss presentations on the life and work of one of the foremost European philosophers of the 19th century, Bernard Bolzano. Most of the 30 talks given were on philosophy but mathematics and theology. More than a quarter of the participants were research students. Several news stories have drawn attention to recent developments in Bolzano studies. In May the complete English translation of Bolzano’s major work Wissenschaftslehre (Theory of Science) was published. This year nearly three-quarters of the129 volumes of the Bernard Bolzano Gesamtausgabe will appear in print. The program and other details of the meeting can be found at bolzano2014.wordpress.com. This meeting was co-organised by the Institute of Philosophy of ASCR and the International Bernard Bolzano Society, Salzburg. The Society met in Prague in April 2010 on the 200th anniversary of a book of his published in 1810. The PALS laser infrastructure has been serving European laser physicists since September 2000. The author is recalling step by step history of the PALS laboratory since its very beginnings, highlighting the main achievements of its 10 years lasting international collaborative research activities. The diaries of the Bohemian nobleman Johann Nepomuk Chotek (1773-1824) are an important new source for the history of music in Prague. In particular, they describe 17 concerts given by the Society of Musicians between 1804 and 1822 in the Estates Theater. The programmes of seven concerts were previously unknown. Chotek not only gives accurate dates for the performances, but also names the pieces and performers, thus supplementing the information in Michaela Freemanová‘s 2003 article on this society. This study examines the life and performing artistry of the pianist Barbara Kozeluchova (1781-1821), daughter of Johann Anton Kozeluch (1738-1814), an important Prague composer and choir director at the Cathedral of St Vitus. On the basis of period reports in the Bohemian and foreign press, it also discusses her performances at the Estates Theatre.
