Smysluplnost života ve stáří patří mezi nejvýznamnější salutogenní faktory, je jednou z položek kvality života a její ztráta souvisí s výskytem deprese. V příspěvku jsou popsány výsledky šetření, jehož cílem bylo zachytit aktuální situaci v populaci seniorů starších 75 let, zjistit míru jejich vnímání života jako smysluplného, určit faktory, které smysluplnost života ve stáří ovlivňují a její souvislost s depresí. Soubor seniorů tvořilo 347 osob starších 75 let z 13 lokalit v České republice. Jedná se o osoby žijící ve vlastním prostředí, v domovech pro seniory a hospitalizované v LDN a NNP. U těchto respondentů bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření Logo- testem, u redukovaného souboru 264 osob byla současně vyšetřena i GDS- 15. Ve skupině seniorů starších 75 let je významně více osob (55,8 %) s velmi dobrou úrovní vnímání života jako smysluplného než v populaci mladších dospělých. Ohrožení ztrátou smyslu života bylo zjištěno pouze u 13,3 % dotázaných, což znamená, že staří lidé oproti mladším věkovým skupinám vnímají život mnohem více jako smysluplný. Míra smysluplnosti života ve stáří podle výsledků našeho šetření závisí na prostředí, v němž senioři žijí, jejich soběstačnosti a také na původním povolání dotazovaných. Senioři, kteří nevnímají život jako smysluplný, mají horší rodinné vztahy, postrádají hezké zážitky a jsou statisticky významně více depresivní., The meaningfulness of life in the elderly is very important salutogenic factor, it is one of the items of quality of life and its loss is in relation with depression. The goal of this article is to inform about the results of the research focused on the meaningfulness of life in old age. The aim of the research was to describe measure of the meaningfulness of life in the elderly, factors that are relevant to the meanigfulness of life in old age, and the connection with depression. The study sample consisted of 347 participants over 75 years of age from 13 localities in the Czech Republic, living in their own environment, in homes for seniors and nursing homes. These seniors were assesed under the Logo- test and besides that 264 of participants were also measured using the Geriatric Depression Scale- 15. The results shown that in the sample of seniors over 75 years of age there is much more persons with highest level of perception of life as meaningful than in the population of younger adults. The danger of loss of purpose of life was diagnosed only in 13,3% seniors in this researched sample. It means that the oldest old perceive their life more meaningful than younger people. The measure of the meaningfulness in life in the elderly depends on environment of living, self- sufficient and previous profession of respondents. Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit vztah reminiscenčních aktivit (RA) a depresivity u seniorů žijících v institucionální péči. Sledována byla míra depresivity u seniorů starších 65 let. Byl sledován rozdíl mezi skupinou experimentální a kontrolní po 50 - ti seniorech. Metodika: Pro sběr dat a vymezení depresivity respondentů byl použit screeningový nástroj Škála deprese pro geriatrické pacienty (GDS). Studiem zdravotní dokumentace byla sbírána data, jako je věk, výsledky kognitivního testu MMSE a data z oblasti psychofarmakologické medikace, jelikož je to významný faktor ovlivňující míru depresivity. Hodnocení depresivity proběhlo ve dvou měřeních. U experimentální skupiny proběhla měření před a po absolvování strukturovaných RA. U kontrolní skupiny byla měření provedena ve stejném časovém období, jako ve skupině experimentální, ale již bez RA. Výsledky: Prevalence depresivity v celém souboru respondentů byla 43 %. Depresivita v experimentální skupině byla prokázána u 20 % respondentů. Ve stejném časovém období u skupiny kontrolní byla zjištěna depresivita u 23 % respondentů. Po absolvování RA klesla depresivita u experimentální skupiny o 4 %. Ve zkoumaném souboru bylo statisticky potvrzeno, že RA snižují míru depresivity u seniorů v institucionální péči. Přítomnost depresivní symptomatologie po absolvování RA u experimentální skupiny byla nižší než u skupiny kontrolní. Závěr: Deprese je vážným a život ohrožujícím onemocněním, které se podílí na snížení kvality života seniorů a jejich rodin. Správná diagnostika a léčba deprese vede ke zlepšení kvality života seniorů a jejich rodin. RA jsou významnou psychosociální nefarmakologickou intervencí, která může výrazně přispět ke zlepšení kvality života., Aim: The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between reminiscence activities (RAs) and depression in seniors living in institutional care. The rate of depression was studied in seniors over 65 years of age. Differences between experimental and control groups, each comprising 50 individuals, were assessed. Methods: The Geriatric Depression Scale was used for data collection and identification of depression in the participants. Medical records were used to ascertain their age, Mini Mental State Examination results and psychopharmacological drug use, a significant factor affecting the rate of depression. Depression was evaluated by two measurements. In the experimental group, the measurements were carried out before and after completion of structured RAs. In the control group, the measurements were carried out at the same times but no RAs were provided. Results: The overall prevalence of depression in all participants was 43%. In the experimental and control groups, the rates were 20% and 23%, respectively. After completion of RAs, the rate decreased by 4% in the experimental group. RAs were confirmed to lower the rates of depression in seniors in institutional care. Depressive symptoms were less frequent after RAs in the experimental group than in the controls. Conclusion: Depression is a serious and lifethreatening disease contributing to impaired quality of life of both seniors and their families. Correct diagnosis and treatment of depression lead to improved quality of life of seniors and their families.
