The study pays attention to the formation of the research into Nativ Americans, as well as to the ethical issues connected not only
with the discipline of cultural anthropology, but also of museology,
archaeology, or cultural studies. The study reflects the development
in the attitude to Nativ Americans since the second half of the 19th
century. It describes the foundation of the Institute of American Ethnology, the formation of anthropology in the USA as well as the era of Franz Boas, one of its founders. It also reflects the criticism by Indian academicians. It points out the interconnection between political ideologies, relation to Indians (and all indigenous inhabitants of North America) and definition of research, most visibly especially in connection with applied anthropology It also focuses on contemporary trends, ethical codes, and the role of the Native American and Indigenous Studies within the context of decolonization.
The paper deals with the commemoration of early stages of technology research of silica optical fibers in Czechoslovakia till 1993. Technology of three types of telecommunication fibers - polymer-clad-silica, graded-index and single-mode ones and that of several types of specialty optical fibers like polarization maintaining bow-tie fibers or rare-earth doped fibers belong to the most important achievements of this period. The prepared samples exhibited parameters comparable to world-class top production. The technology research was understood not only as a description of a set of receipts but mainly as scientific understanding of process fundaments. Thanks to this approach, in later period it was possible to continue in the research of specialty optical fibers for fiber sensors, fiber amplifiers and fiber lasers. Such research is performed in the Laboratory of Optical Fibers of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences to date. and Článek připomíná počátky výzkumu technologie křemenných optických vláken vČeskoslovensku do roku 1993.
The article deals with the phenomenon of the sexual harassment in the working place in the Czech Republic. The authors analyze sexual harassment as one of effects of men's symbolic power over women causing cultural misrecognition of women and at the same time as one of factors supporting economic inequality between men and women in western societies. They apply the two-dimensional theory of justice by Nancy Fraser and argue that the existence of sexual harassment confirms Fraser's notion of gender as bivalent category as well as the necessity for combining the cultural politics of recognition with politics of redistribution. Furthermore, the article presents the research's results on incidence and forms of the sexual harassment in the population of the Czech Republic which was realized by the Public Opinion Research Center and by the department Gender & sociology of the Institute of Sociology, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. The research confirms the existence and high significance of the phenomenon of sexual harassment within the working relations in the Czech Republic.
The study compiled as a part of EU prject ProAct ("Practical Regional Research and Innovation Policy in Action - the Efficient Tools for Regional Catching-up in New Member States" (Regions of Knowledge - FP6). The regional practices of innovation policy in eight EU member states are presented in case studies, elaborated for one region in each country with South Moravia representing the Czech Republic. South Moravian innovation policy is analyzed in three fundamental dimensions: strategy formation, policy deployment, and practices at the programme level. These are the constituent elements of the process that was defined by the ProAct consortium as so called "ProAct policy learning cycle". THe benchmark methodology (The ProAct Benchmarking Framework) was applied in the case studies to explore good pracices in regional innovation and research policy. In the study, the role of South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC - Jihomoravské innovační centrum) is highlighted., Jiří Loudín, Adolf Filáček, Michal Kostka, Kateřina Tydláčková., and Obsahuje seznam literatury.
The paper is describing the current state of intermediation services in CZ NUTZ 2 Region Prague, based on results of ongoing SUPER-SME Project of FP6. It is possible to identify an important role of itnermediaries in research, development, and innovation activities. The intermediation aims at otpimizing supply of scientific and technological services, with demad of RTDI companies and organizations or any other actors using or interested in using these services, e.g. national or regional stakeholders. S&T intermediary is defined as a public, private, or public/private (non-profit) instition with a mission of optimizing interface between supply of sicentific and technological services and demand of an enterpirse, groups of enterpirses, or any institution in this respect. Universities, research centrers, private companies, or technology transfer centers can play a role of S&T intermediary., Adolf Filáček., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Czech “tramping” is primary Czech non-political movement and in the same time a pastime which came into existence at the beginning of the 20th century. It interconnected a stay in the countryside with romanticizing inspiration with American Wild West. Emphasis was placed on personal freedom and small amount of organization. It is also characterized by specific literary, musical and graphic production. This paper attempts to analyze specific features
of current campfire legends as a part of modern folk literature. It is based on material collected during a short survey. It seems that narration appearing in “tramping” environment has heavy though not absolute motivic relation to some more general types of narration of the youth such as the campfire legends and motifs related to legend tripping. However, they are spread in the ways characteristic for the youth by people who are much older. There is also a strong connection to the places visited by “tramps”. The existence of the legends is reflected within the movement. The stories can be turned into literature, parodied, or intentionally newly created as folklorism.
