We have studied the mechanism of Na+ deprivation-induced catecholamine secretion from freshly isolated bovine adrenal chromaffin cells. Na+ deprivation-induced catecholamine secretion depended on free extracellular Ca2+ concentrations and was almost parallel to 45Ca2+ influx into the cells under various experimental conditions. Furthermore, Na+ deprivation-induced 45Ca2+ influx and catecholamine secretion were actually induced by a relative Na+ concentration gradient across the plasma membrane, but not by simple omission of Na+ from the medium. These results indicate that the deprivation of Na+ from the medium changes the relative Na+ gradient across the plasma membrane and results in Ca2+ influx via a reverse mode of Na+-Ca2+ exchange rather than by inducing Ca2+ entry through Ca2+ channels by eliminating the competition between extracellular Na+ and Ca2+., M. The technique of assessing the failure of rigid overlying strata is applicable to deep mining with thick coal seams (a thickness of more than 1 m in the Ostrava-Karvina Coalfield), and in one case to longwall mining with controlled caving. The assessment of failure of rigid overlying strata makes it possible to distinguish whether the rigid overlying strata of rocks has been deformed or whether a strutting arch has been formed over the goaf below which is an area that is free from stress. Good knowledge of the mining, technical and geological conditions of a given site is a prerequisite for successful evaluation. There are advantages to utilising surface measurements for interpreting the effects of changes in rock mass, especially in areas of high overlying strata. The practical importance of failure assessment of overlying strata consists in determining the size of the mined-out area where the deformation of the rigid overlying strata occurred, which is dependent on the character of the rock mass. This paper is set in the context of the expected width of the goaf during deformation of rigid overlying strata within parameters that describe the mining and geological conditions of the locality. Changes in the area of the goaf, based the results of tensometric measurements, will also be placed in context., Eva Jiránková, Lubomír Staš, Vlastimil Kajzar and Hana Doležalová., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Rock burst is a common mine disaster often accompanied with casualties and property damage. An effective and accurate method for predicting rock burst is necessary. This paper proposed a method for predicting rock burst on the basis of energy theory. Firstly, according to the laws of energy distribution in the front of coalface, the energy judgment coefficient Q is proposed, the energy is not released to the outside when Q<0, it means that the rock burst will not occurs, the energy is released to the outside when Q>0, it means that the rock burst may occur, the greater Q value is, the more energy is released to the outside when rock burst occurs. Secondly, based on the geological structure of erosion zone, the influence of the uniaxial compressive strength and pre-peak energy with the different of the height ratio, lithology, and dip angle are analyzed, it concluded that uniaxial compressive strength and pre-peak energy at the bottom of the erosion zone slope are greater and the uniaxial compressive strength and pre-peak energy at the edge of the erosion zone slope are smaller. Finally, taking the Xiaoyun Coal Mine as the engineering background, the energy judgment coefficient Q for predicting rock burst is applied. The results of the field observation are consistent with the results of the energy judgment coefficient Q. It indicates that this method can better predict the location and intensity of rock burst and provide a novel idea for preventing the occurrence of rock burst.
Periodic drought fluctuation is a common phenomenon in Northwest China. We analyzed the response of Chinese dwarf cherry (Cerasus humilis) seedlings, a dwarf shrub species with considerably strong adaptabilities, exposed to water stress (WS) by withholding water for 21 d, and subsequent recovery of 7 d. Leaf relative water content (LRWC), net photosynthetic rate (PN), maximal quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), and effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (ΦPSII) decreased with increasing water deficit. In contrast, the nonphotochemical quenching of Chl fluorescence (NPQ) significantly increased, as well as the amounts of violaxanthin (V) + antheraxanthin (A) + zeaxanthin (Z). In the whole levels, the photosynthetic pigment composition did not display significant changes in WS seedlings. However, the de-epoxidation state of xanthophyll cycle pigments [(Z+0.5A)/VAZ ] generally exhibited higher values in WS seedlings. The significant inhibition of de-epoxidation by dithiothreitol (DTT) and negligible changes of epoxidation of Z by glucosamine (Gla) were both observed; the slight but stably upregulated transcript level of violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) and downregulated zeaxanthin epoxidase (ZEP) expression profile were found during WS period, indicating that they were regulated on post-transcript levels. VDE activity, via the accumulation of Z and A, which confers a greater capacity of photoprotection, appears to contribute to the survival of severely stressed plants. and X. S. Song ... [et al.].
Severe plastic deformation is one of the most effective methods of preparation of ultra-fine-structured materials with an extreaordinary combination of high strength and high ductility. The microstructure of these materials consists of sub-micrometer regions of misoriented crystal lattice. It is proposed that formation of the regions is a result of a tendency to decrease the internal energy opposed by a rearrangement of crystal lattice defects. The model of the structuralization process is formulated as an energy minimization problem.. and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Effect of drought on the mechanisms of energy dissipation was evaluated in two-month-old Arachis hypogaea cvs. 57-422, 73-30, and GC 8-35. Plants were submitted to three treatments: control (C), mild water stress (S1), and severe water stress (S2). Photosynthetic performance was evaluated as the Hill and Mehler reactions. These activities were correlated with the contents of the low and high potential forms of cytochrome (cyt) b 559, plastoquinone, cyt b 563, and cyt f. Additionally, the patterns of carotenoids and chlorophylls (Chls), as well as the alterations of Chl a fluorescence parameters were studied. Under mild water stress the regulatory mechanism at the antennae level was effective for 57-422 and GC 8-35, while in the cv. 73-30 an overcharge of photosynthetic apparatus occurred. Relative to this cv., under S1 the stability of carotene and the dissipative cycle around photosystem (PS) 2 became an important factor for the effective protection of the PS2 reaction centres. The cyclic electron flow around PS1 was important for energy dissipation under S1 only for the cvs. 57-422 and 73-30. and J. A. Lauriano ... [et al.].
Neurogenic pulmonary edema is a life-threatening complication, known for almost 100 years, but its etiopathogenesis is still not completely understood. This review summarizes current knowledge about the etiology and pathophysiology of neurogenic pulmonary edema. The roles of systemic sympathetic discharge, central nervous system trigger zones, intracranial pressure, inflammation and anesthesia in the etiopathogenesis of neurogenic pulmonary edema are considered in detail. The management of the patient and experimental models of neurogenic pulmonary edema are also discussed., J. Šedý, J. Zicha, J. Kuneš, P. Jendelová, E. The aim of this study is to show how the emotions - in particular the so-called "passions of the soul" - were understood and interpreted in the medical thinking of the late Enlightenment. We focus chiefly on three innovations in 18th century medicine: the "discovery" of the neuro-cerebral system (the ’birth’ of neurology); the search for the "seat" of illnesses in particular organs (the "birth" of pathological anatomy); and the gradual separation of the body and the soul as objects of medical enquiry (the "birth of psychiatry). We consider whether, and to what extent, these innovations contributed to the breakdown of the "old" diagnostic paradigms of the "passions of the soul", or whether in fact they helped to maintain them. We also discuss to what extent the consideration of these passions fostered a new approach to the relationship between the body and the soul in Enlightenment medicine. Some of the phenomena studied are illustrated by specific examples of (erotic) love and melancholy. and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
The article deals with causes of lower involvement of women in political functions in the Czech Republic. The author identifies three sets of significant factors: institutional, socioeconomic and political cultural. Her approach is based on the model proposed by Pippa Norris to explain ratio of women in political functions in western European states, which involves both institutional and social factors that influence women's political participation. Thus, the author focuses on institutional rules that constitute barriers of entry of women in political functions. Furthermore, she studies an influence of ways of functioning of political parties that affect the level of gender equality in political representation. Finally, she examines attitudes of Czech public and particularly Czech women to women's political participation as well as reflexion of the lower political representation of women in the public discourse.
