On 19th February 2016 exactly 100 years passed since the death of Ernst Mach, the great physicist and philosopher of the 19th and 20th centuries, a native of Brno-Chrlice. On the occasion of this anniversary, Masaryk University and other institutions organised Ernst Mach Brno-Days 2016 with the conference "Ernst Mach: Physics - Philosophy - Technics" and other events. Sakuma Shōzan was among the first to stress and prove the viability of Neoconfucian learning by including selective aspects and achievements of western civilization such as military science. In doing so, he contributed much to the process of transition from valuing static ethic norms toward combinib these norms with realistic approaches and seeking practical knowledge as a new yardstick for decision-making.

The problem of prophylaxis of incompetence of bronchial stump and bronchial fistula is many sided. Notwithstanding the development of new technologies, perfection of surgical technique, its frequency still remains on high level that persistently requests the search of new ways for resolving this problem, which preserved its topicality till nowadays. We have found that: The most efficiency of BFS is achieved during treatment of bronchial fistulas with diameter up to 3 mm and with effectiveness at 83.2% patients after rightside PE and at 92.3% patients after leftside PE. In case of BPF with diameter more than 3 mm the number of satisfactory results of BFS reaches only 33.3%. but, it is necessary to mention that among patients with BPF sized over 3 mm after leftside PE the effectiveness of BFS significantly exceeds as general index (50.0% against 33.3%) so after rightside PE (50.0% against 25.0%)., F. Theoretical models predict that brood guarding may evolve in situations where eggs are costly to produce or when handling times are long. This study reveals that females of the secondary hyperparasitoid Trichomalopsis apanteloctena guarded cocoon broods of Cotesia kariyai, a gregarious endoparasitoid. Hyperparasitoid females also monopolized host resources and protected their offspring by driving away other conspecific hyperparasitoid females. The females exhibited antagonistic behavior towards competitors through threatening body postures, biting and chasing. Using a video camera to determine how long a hyperparasitoid female attended and parasitized cocoons within a single host brood, it was found that after about 4 days, cocoon guarding behavior became much less apparent. Moreover, more than 90% of hosts were typically parasitized by a hyperparasitoid female over the course of 4 days after she commenced brood guarding. Observations of egg production during a female's lifetime revealed a physiological interval rhythm that typically lasted 3-4 days, which correlates almost exactly with the period during which the cocoons were guarded. To confirm the giving-up time for a host cocoon brood, hyperparasitoid females were given access to 24 h-old cocoon clusters, each containing 60-100 individual cocoons. Ninety percent of the females remained on cocoons for approximately 72 h. Furthermore, twenty-five percent of wasps continued attending and presumably guarding host cocoon broods for more than 138 h after the female first attended the brood. C. kariyai larvae pupate within a few hours of egression from their host and emerge as adults about 5 days (120 h) later. Therefore, many hyperparasitoid females continued to guard older host cocoons of greatly reduced quality as a resource for their progeny and some even after eclosion of the primary parasitoid. Late-brood guarding enabled a hyperparasitoid female to protect her own progeny from other hyperparasitoid females that readily attacked and killed them when she was removed. Our study thus reveals that extended guarding behavior is an adaptive mechanism that probably plays an important role in the survival of the original brood.
To assess BAT activity in humans at a population level, infrared thermography (IRT) represents a safe, readily repeatable and affordable alternative to 18F-FDG-PET. Building upon a previously proposed method by our laboratory, we further refined the image computational algorithm to quantify BAT activation in the cervical-supraclavicular (C-SCV) region of healthy young men under thermo-neutral and cold exposure conditions. Additionally, we validated the whole-body calorimeter (WBC) in reliably measuring cold-induced thermogenesis. The temperature gradient between C-SCV-deltoid regions, and the corresponding difference in heat power output, increased upon cold air exposure relative to thermo-neutral conditions (by 74.88 %, p<0.0001; and by 71.34 %, p<0.0001 respectively). Resting and cumulative energy expenditure (EE) rose significantly (by 13.14 % and 9.12 % respectively, p=0.0001) while positive correlations between IRT measures and EE were found with cold air exposure (percentage change in heat power gradient between ROI and deltoid, cold air: r2 =0.29, p=0.026, Pearson's correlation). IRT and WBC can be used to study BAT activation. The refined algorithm allows for more automation and objectivity in IRT data analysis, especially under cold air exposures.
