Zlomky skleněných nádob z jímky svědčí o úrovni stolování ekonomicky nikoli nadprůměrné pražské domácnosti i o sortimentu dutého skla na pražském trhu ve 14. století. and On a lot in the northern part of the New Town in Prague, the remains of a partly sunken building from the 12th century, or the start of the 13th century, were excavated. The ever increasing numbers of finds of such features are evidence of the intensity of settlement in this part of the early medieval Prague agglomeration, only in this case dating is possible on the basis of a vessel, containing offerings, set in the floor. The authors situate the demise of the building within the context of events that affected this area in the 1230s, in connection with the sovereign’s plan to establish the (first) Town of Prague. Another unearthed feature was a cesspit: its content corresponds with contemporary reports about sudden formation of these outskirts during the first half of the 14th century. Fragments of glass vessels from this cesspit testify to the standard of dining in the household, which for Prague standards was not above average, and to the variety of blown glass in the Prague market in the 14th century.
Nově identifikovaná kategorie středověkých artefaktů z českých archeologických fondů představuje jeden z atributů zacházení s drahými kovy. Šest dosud evidovaných předmětů datovatelných do raného středověku pochází z různých kontextů sociálních (hrad, sídelní aglomerace, ves) i archeologických (hrob, sídlištní objekt, hradiště). Autoři zdůrazňují nezbytnost potvrzení přítomnosti stop zkoušeného kovu chemickými mikroanalýzami, a to nejen pro interpretaci artefaktu, ale i pro poznání prostředí, které manipulovalo s drahými kovy i s podvrhy, a v neposlední řadě pro upřesnění názorů na dovednosti středověkých metalurgů. and A newly identified category of medieval artefacts from Czech archaeological inventories represents one indicator of the manner in which precious metals were handled: six objects date from various social (castle, settlement agglomeration, village) and archaeological (grave, settlement feature, hillfort) early medieval contexts. The authors emphasize the necessity of confirming the presence of traces from the tested metal by chemical microanalysis, not only for interpreting the artefacts themselves, but also for understanding the environment in which both precious and spurious metals were handled.
Ty nejsou spolehlivě doloženy a jejich existence by byla z hlediska obranyschopnosti kontraproduktivní. and One of the subjects of archaeological anthropology is the study of the relationship between man and artefacts. From this perspective it is also possible to study questions surrounding the reconstruction of medieval fortifications. A number of researchers have studied Early Medieval fortifications, but only in several instances has the interpretation reached the stage of drafting the overall graphic reconstruction of these fortifications. From the perspective of the defensibility of these structures, it is possible to assess the reconstruction from the point of view of the relationship of the walls and the human body. Fortifying elements in the form of palisades appear on the ramparts in several of the graphic reconstructions of the High and Late Middle Age fortifications. These are not reliably documented, and their existence from a defence perspective would be counterproductive.
– nejméně 300 taxonů bylin a dřevin prokázaly smíšený charakter sedimentu. Výsledky byly konfrontovány se závěry pylové analýzy z téže lokality, s nálezovými soubory z městského jádra Malé Strany a s nálezy makrozbytků z mimopražských raně středověkých lokalit situovaných do slepých říčních ramen. and 18 samples from alluvial deposits extracted from a defunct side branch of the river Vltava in the neighbourhood of the medieval Lesser Town in Prague were submitted to carpological and xylotomical analyses. The site was situated outside the fortification in the river channel through which water used to flow only during floods. The alluvial deposits were dated by means of 14C method (up to 99.7 %) to the period between 770–990 A.D. and 1160–1282 A.D., according to the pottery to the end of the 10th till the beginning of the 14th centuries. The vegetal macroremains – 23 399 diasporas + fragments of disaporas, wood, charcoal, etc. – at least 300 taxa of herbs and woody plants demonstrated mixed character of the sediment. The origin of a part of the macroremains was in the sedimentation area, a part showed relation with the neighbouring settlement; the others were washed down by the river. It was the river itself and the floods, which became more devastating after 1250 A.D., that took part in enlarging the collection of the species by about 50 % compared with the sets from the historical core of the Lesser Town. The results were compared with the outcomes of pollen analysis from the same location, with the early medieval sets of finds from the core of the Lesser Town and partially from the Czech early medieval sites situated into dead river branches.
