Výsledky průzkumů přispěly k prokázání dosud neznámých systémů opevnění hradišť. and The present non-destructive methods of archaeology offer more possibilities for surveys of archaeological sites. The systematic survey of hillforts is one from the most promising areas for the use of geophysical methods. Two chosen application examples represent two different ways (survey of full area or chosen areas of the expected fortification) of the efficient use of the mainly magnetometric method before planned building activity in areas of archaeological sites. Part of the inner area and fortifications of the Přerovská Hůra prehistoric and early medieval hillfort is endangered by the construction of a water reservoir (the site was surveyed by full area geophysical prospection). Previously unknown outer fortifications of the Zámka prehistoric and early medieval hillfort are endangered by the construction of the bypass around Prague. New results from surveys before the beginning of earthwork helped document systems of hillfort fortifications that were unknown.
Geofyzikální průzkum přispěl k podrobnějšímu vymezení rozsahu zastavěné části tábora i charakteru jednotlivých objektů. and In connection with new surface surveys and the geodetic survey of Nový hrad (New Castle), including the siege camp in the eastern fields of the castle foregrounds, a non-destructive geophysical survey was conducted. Six areas selected to meet the needs of archaeologists and the relevant measurement conditions were explored. The larger areas were studied by means of magnetometric survey, whereas geoelectrical resistivity measurement was used on several specific locations. The results achieved using geophysical methods contributed to a more detailed demarcation of the range of the built-up part of the camp and the nature of individual features.
Hlavní pozornost věnovali autoři topografii lokality, vymezení základních vývojových fází a jejich absolutní chronologii a charakteristice jednotlivých etap archeologického výzkumu. and This article summarises the results of over a century of archaeological investigations at the Early Medieval castle at Libice nad Cidlinou and its agglomeration. Although the size of the archaeologically assessed area ranks Libice as one of the foremost early medieval centres, the insufficient state of processing calls for a clearly defined focus and, more particularly, research aims. Here the authors have concentrated on the topography of the site, the delimitation of the major developmental phases and their absolute chronology, and the characteristics of the various phases of archaeological investigation.
The author presents the preliminary results of the excavation of the Mikulčice acropolis fortifi cation near Church II. Any rampart is the largest such structure built by the Mojmír dynasty. The importance of this particular fortifi cation lies in the fact that it is the rampart of the main area of one of the top Great Moravian centers of power that protected, among other things, a number of religious buildings and a district with the only properly documented stone palace of a Great Moravian ruler. Great Moravian rampart is composed of a stone face wall, clay-wood core strengthened by grates and a stone substructure ringed by stake palisades, in front of, and in some places partially under, the face wall. The substructure’s role was most likely to bear the face wall’s weight and to strengthen the artifi cial slope under it against water erosion by the nearby river. The conclusion poses the main issues and unknowns that remain to be discovered and answered about the Mikulčice fortifi cation, Marian Mazuch., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Ty nejsou spolehlivě doloženy a jejich existence by byla z hlediska obranyschopnosti kontraproduktivní. and One of the subjects of archaeological anthropology is the study of the relationship between man and artefacts. From this perspective it is also possible to study questions surrounding the reconstruction of medieval fortifications. A number of researchers have studied Early Medieval fortifications, but only in several instances has the interpretation reached the stage of drafting the overall graphic reconstruction of these fortifications. From the perspective of the defensibility of these structures, it is possible to assess the reconstruction from the point of view of the relationship of the walls and the human body. Fortifying elements in the form of palisades appear on the ramparts in several of the graphic reconstructions of the High and Late Middle Age fortifications. These are not reliably documented, and their existence from a defence perspective would be counterproductive.
V průběhu těchto výzkumů byly objeveny zbytky mohutné fortifikace tvořené čelní kamennou zdí a dřevo-hliněnou konstrukcí táhnoucí se v délce bezmála 400 m. Průběh opevnění byl potom ověřen geofyzikálními i geologickými metodami. Následně došlo v poloze Rybárny k objevu velkomoravského pohřebiště a pravděpodobně i kostela, což kromě jiného vyvolalo nové otázky vztahující se k charakteristice, funkci a dataci nedaleké hradby. and The article is devoted to the fortification of the powerful Staré Město – Uherské Hradiště agglomeration, one of the most important centres of the Early Medieval state formation – Great Moravia. The study evaluates an earlier, hitherto unpublished, excavation that was conducted on the eastern edge of the agglomeration in the quarter Rybárny. During this excavations the remains of massive fortifications were discovered, with a stone facing and an earth and timber structure running a length of no less than 400 m. The course of the fortification was subsequently verified using geophysical and geological methods. Later, a Great Moravian cemetery and probably church were also found at Rybárny, which amongst other things raised news questions relating to the characteristics, function and dating of the nearby rampart.
