A new way of identification of minerals was suggested. The identification was based on chemometric analysis of measured IR spectra of selected minerals. IR spectra were collected using diffuse reflectance technique. The discriminant analysis and principal component analysis were used as chemometric methods. Five statistical models were created for separation and identification of clay minerals. Up to 60 samples of various mineral standards (clay minerals, feldspars, carbonates, sulphates and quartz) from different localities were selected for the creation of statistical models. The results of this study confirm that the discriminant analysis of IR spectra of minerals could provide a powerful tool for mineral identification. Even differentiation of muscovite from illite and identification of mixed structures of illite-smectite were achieved., Michal Ritz, Lenka Vaculíková and Eva Plevová., and Obsahuje bibliografii
An invasive sawfly Aproceros leucopoda Takeuchi, 1939, which originates from East Asia, has colonized elms (Ulmus spp.) in Austria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the Ukraine, at least since 2003. In Europe, the larvae can completely defoliate native and non-native elm trees and may cause at least partial dieback. Field observations indicate that elms are infested independent of their age and site characteristics. The life cycle of A. leucopoda is described based on material reared in Hokkaido, Japan. Parthenogenetic reproduction, short life cycle of summer generations and the ability to produce four generations per year result in the production of numerous progeny. The evolution of a seasonal dimorphism in head morphology, a simple cocoon that is attached directly to the host plant and a short period spent in the cocoon stage during summer, are putative apomorphies shared by Aproceros Takeuchi, 1939 and Aprosthema Konow, 1899. These traits reduce developmental costs and contribute to the proliferation of A. leucopoda. No specialized parasitoid, that can effectively reduce outbreaks of this species, is known. It is likely that this pest will spread into central and south-western Europe. Further monitoring of A. leucopoda is required to assess future range extensions in Europe, its exacerbating effect on Dutch elm disease and to find a suitable biocontrol agent. Concise keys to imaginal and larval stages are presented that will facilitate the identification of A. leucopoda.
The soil engineer needs to be able to readily identify difficult or problematic soils and to determine the amount of settlement that may occur. This paper deals with the assessment and identification of three types of difficult soils: collapsible soils, swelling soils, and liquefiable soils. In the first instance, the study investigates the effect of some soil properties on wetting-induced collapse strain and the swelling potential of soils. Also, two new methods for predicting soil collapse and swelling potential are developed. The proposed relationships correlate between collapse strain and swelling potential and some soil parameters which are believed to govern soil collapse and swelling. Validation of these two relationships with some data reported in literature is also examined. Furthermore, the paper describes the different steps suggested in a new procedure for soil liquefaction assessment. The procedure was presented in the form of an evaluation guide. In addition, a relationship was suggested for computing the potential for liquefaction. An application of the proposed procedure to a practical case is included in order to validate and illustrate the different steps to be followed in the suggested evaluation procedure.
The paper deals with the modelling of balancing machine vibration and the identifícation of the stiffness and damping coefficients of oil-film bearings. The real balancing machine consists of a flexible rotor, oil-film bearings and bearing heads on spring elements. The mathematical model enables to calculate eigenvalues, critical revolutions and unbalance vibrations in dependence on the rotational speed. The identification method of the oil-film bearing stiffness and damping matrices is based on the minimization of differences between measured and calculated rotor critical speeds and bearing head displacements in balancing machines. The rotor is excited by attached known trial masses fixed in chosen balancing planes. and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Biometric data are typically used for the purposes of unique identification of a person. However, recent research suggests that biometric data gathered for the purpose of identification can be analysed for extraction of additional information. This augments indicative value of biometric data. This paper illustrates the range of augmented indicative values of the data as well as identifies crucial factors that contribute to increased vulnerability of data subjects., Alžběta Krausová, Hananel Hazan, Ján Matejka., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
The author defends a combination of Strawson’s account of definite descriptions as devices of singular reference par excellence with the Russellian truth-evaluation of utterances of sentences with descriptions. The complex Russellian proposition is, according to the author’s view, introduced by such utterances into communication as a by-product of the instrumental side of an attempt to make a singular statement. This, precisely like the instrumental aspects of similar attempts exploiting names or demonstratives has to be reflected by analysis but should not be confused with the communicative function of utterances. The success of all these attempts depends on the fulfilment of empirical conditions of various types, given by semantics of descriptions, names or demonstratives (unless the relevance of these conditions is neutralized by another identificatory factor dominating in given context). But their communicative function does not consist in claiming that these conditions are fulfilled. The author agrees with Strawson that the first two conjuncts of the complex Russellian proposition are introduced into communication as presuppositions: but argues in favour of defining presupposition (in pragmatic sense) in normative, rather the intentional terms., Autor obhajuje kombinaci Strawsonova popisu jednoznačných popisů jako prostředků singulární reference par excellence s Russellovským pravdivým hodnocením výroků vět s popisy.
Characteristics of 46 setae of the second stage larvae of four Hoplothrips species (Thysanoptera) are discussed with respect to their diagnostic value. Two different approaches, of which one is mathematical, for identification of the larvae are given.
Thrips are important agricultural pests and accurate identification is important for their effective management. In order to determine species, however, they need to be mounted on slides and the traditional process is time-consuming. The aim of this paper is to describe a simple and fast method to prepare temporary slides for the routine identification of thrips, which is not dependent on their colour and hardness. Four species of thrips of different colours were used in the preparations: Frankliniella occidentalis (yellow with brown tergal markings), Frankliniella schultzei (entirely brown), Haplothrips gowdeyii (dark brown to carmine) and Caliothrips phaseoli (brown to black). Slides of each species were prepared using three different methods: traditional (3 days), simplified (6 h) and fast method (10 min). The thrips on the resulting slides were observed under a microscope and important structures used in their identification were compared. The quality of the slides prepared using the traditional method was superior to those prepared using the other two methods if only the transparency and general position of the insects on the slides were considered. The transparency of the slides prepared using the simplified method was also good, but only for the pale coloured species (yellow and grey-brown). The fast method, on the other hand, was very efficient for routine identification since it resulted in slides of sufficient quality for identifying species regardless of their colour. It is important, however, to stress that the fast method is only suitable for preparing temporary slides for routine identification and is not a substitute for the traditional method of preparing permanent slides., Luís C.P. A total of 23 uropodine species of the genus Trachytes (Acari, Mesostigmata) are reliably recorded to occur in Central Europe and included in identification keys for adults (23 spp.) and deutonymphal stages (9 spp.), respectively. For the first time, the diagnostic characters of deutonymphs of the species T. baloghi, T. minima, T. minimasimilis, T. mystacinus and T. splendida are figured. Ten species found in Slovakia are redescribed (T. aegrota, T. baloghi, T. hirschmanni, T. irenae, T. lamda, T. minima, T. minimasimilis, T. mystacinus, T. pauperior and T. splendida) and characterised by their external morphology, geographic distribution and ecological requirements in terms of habitat preference, affinity to merocoenoses and vertical distribution. The zoogeographic origin of Trachytes is analysed. Most species are found only in woodlands and have not been recorded in the distribution area of the Pannonian flora in Central Europe (except for T. aegrota and T. baloghi). Short taxonomic remarks are given for the species of dubious taxonomic status or whose occurrence is not reliably known.
The first part of the paper examines the historico-philosophical roots and re-evaluations of the traditional link between the notion of individual substance and the subject-position in the structure of judgement, focusing on Aristotle, Kant and Hegel. The second part is devoted to Peter Strawson’s revival of the Aristotelian account and his attempt to derive a (hierarchically ordered) system of logico-grammatical asymmetries between the subject- and predicate-terms from the basic categorial opposition between particulars and general concepts. While Aristotle typically combines the categorial account of the subject-predicate distinction with the aboutness principle, Strawson emphasizes that both criteria can give incompatible results and opts for the former as philosophically more fundamental. In polemics with Strawson, the author defends the aboutness criterion (the ''legein ti kata tinos'' principle) and attempts to show that it meets the basic requirements which philosophy of language and mind should impose on the analysis of the subjectpredicate distinction. and Petr Koťátko
