Kazuistika popisuje případ prenatálně diagnostikované trizomie 18. chromozómu - Edwardsova syndromu. Prenatální detekce této anomálie plodu byla provedena pomocí abnormního sonogramu, pozitivního triple testu a patologického výsledku karyotypu plodu stanoveného po odběru plodové vody. Po genetické konzultaci a sdělení diagnózy se rodiče rozhodli neakceptovat teoretickou možnost ukončení gravidity. Klinické aspekty případu jsou typické a nevybočují z běžné praxe center fetální medicíny. Raritní je následná mediální odezva celého případu. Aktivita genetického centra – doporučení k ukončení gravidity v případě závažné fetální anomálie - byla v této kauze rodiči mediálně zpochybněna po etické stránce. Případ byl obsáhle komentován v laickém tisku a na internetových diskusních fórech. Prenatal detection of this fetal anomaly was performed on the basis of abnormal sonogram, positive triple test and pathological result of fetal karyotype from amniocentesis. After genetic counseling with notification of the diagnosis the parents decided not to accept theoretical possibility of termination of pregnancy. Clinical aspects of this case are typical and they don’t depart from common practice of centers for fetal medicine. The media presentation not long afterward was rather unusual. The genetic counseling – recommendation for termination of pregnancy in the case of severe fetal anomaly – was ethically challenged by public.
