The study aimed to investigate the role of aggression and impulsivity in smoking among male adult students. It was hypothesized that there would be significant difference between smokers and non- smokers on the traits of aggression and impulsivity. The sample of two hundred male adult students was selected from different universities of Islamabad. Two subscales of Impulsiveness and Aggression were administered to measure the personality traits of aggression and impulsivity. Descriptive statistics and t-test was calculated for analysis of data. Results showed that there is significant differences in aggression and impulsivity between smokers and non-smokers. In the last decade the health of young people in Ukraine as well as in many other countries of the world significantly deteriorated according to the results of screening tests. Because of this the main task of prophylactic medicine is development and introduction of new methods of early diagnostics of diseases. The aim of the work to assess the peculiarities of adaptation of students with different types of vegetative regulation. Material and methods: 415 second year students of Lugansk State Medical University were tested. The mechanisms of physiological functions of the body regulation were assessed by registration of cardiac rhythm variability (CRV). Analysis of CRV was performed by three methods: statistical, geometrical, and spectral analysis. The express method proposed by Shlyk, N.I. (2009) was later used to determine the prevailing type of vegetative regulation. To assess adaptability the method of R.M. Baevskij (1979) was used. Results: In the result of investigation 4 types of functional states of regulatory systems were determined: I type 295 (71 %) of tested, II in 14 (3 %), III in 96 (23 %) and IV only in 10 (2%). I type of functional state of regulatory systems in the wakeful state at rest was characterized by moderate prevalence of central regulation of heart rhythm (MPCR), decreased activity of autonomic regulation. It was noticed that some of the parameters of CRV (like RR, SDNN, RMSSD and pNN50) which characterize autonomic regulation, were statistically lowere (р≤0.01) compared to type III, and some (like AMo and SI) higher, in both female and male students. Summarized spectrum capacity and components of its wave structure (HF, LF, VLF) which characterize central regulation were statistically significantly lower (р≤0.01) for the I type of regulation compared to the III one which is characterized by moderate prevalence of autonomic regulation of the heart rhythm. In female students with type I autonomic regulation compared to male students such CRV parameters as RR and AМo were statistically significantly lower (р≤0.05), while the parameters of total potency (TP) and high frequency waves (HF) were higher (р≤0.05), which could point to more centralized heart rhythm regulation in male compared to female. The evaluation of regulatory systems overstress allowed to determine the state of adaptation and risk of overstress or breakdown in students with different types of autonomic regulation. Východiska: Vzhledem ke geriatrizaci ošetřovatelské péče se ageismus stává často diskutovaným tématem. Z tohoto důvodu je velmi důležité, aby nelékařští zdravotničtí pracovníci byli v tomto ohledu dostatečně vzděláváni, protože právě dostatečná informovanost a praktická zkušenost může ovlivnit míru inklinace k ageistickým postojům. Cíl: Cílem výzkumného šetření bylo zhodnotit ageistické postoje u studentů středních zdravotnických škol v závislosti na škole a ročníku, kterou respondenti navštěvovali a zjistit rozdíly ve vnímání seniorské populace. Metody: V souladu s cíli práce byl proveden kvantitativní výzkum formou dotazníkového šetření. Na základě bodového ohodnocení odpovědí v dotazníku byla zjištěna míra ageistických postojů u respondentů. Výsledky: Práce prokázala, že je statisticky významný vztah mezi ageistickými postoji u studentů a jejich příslušností ke střední škole. Stejně tak byl prokázán rozdíl mezi ageistickými postoji u studentů druhých a čtvrtých ročníků středních zdravotnických škol. Závěry: Z práce vyplývá, že ve sledovaném souboru se u většiny studentů objevuje střední inklinace k ageistickým postojům s ohledem na navštěvovanou školu. Dále pak, že k ageistickým postojům inklinují více studenti čtvrtých ročníků, kteří již absolvovali odbornou praxi u lůžka nemocného, než studenti druhých ročníků, kteří tuto praxi ještě neabsolvovali., Background: Due to geriatrization of nursing care becomes oen discussed theme. Because of this it’s very important that non-medical health staff will be enough educated. It is that sufficient awareness and practical experience that can affect the rate of inclination to ageist attitudes. Objective: e objective of this research was to evaluate ageist attitudes of nursing school students according to school which the respondents visited and find out the differences in perception of senior population among the students of second and fourth grade. Methods: Due to the aims of this work the quantitative research has been done through a questionnaire survey. e rate of ageist attitudes was observed based on scoring responses. Results: A statistically significant relationship between symptoms of ageist attitudes this work proved as well as the differences between symptoms of ageist attitudes among second and fourth grade students. Conclusions: e work shows that in the sample survey, the majority of students appearing middle inclination to the myths of old age. Cíl: Posoudit efekt samoléčby a autodiagnózy dysmenorey u studentek univerzity v Maiduguri. Metody: 289 studentek trpících dysmenorhoeou z celkového počtu 25 000 studentek univerzity v Maiduguri ze státu Borno, Nigerie, bylo randomizováno k léčbě dysmenorey. Studentky byly vybrány na základě dotazníku, který vyplnily v lednu 2011. Výsledky: Střední věk ± směrodatná odchylka (SD) účastnic byl 22.50 ± 3.12 roku. 112 (38.8 %) užívalo analgetika a nefarmakologické prostředky k tišení bolesti, buď současně, nebo následně (p < 0.001). Nejčastějšími nemedikamentózními prostředky byly horká lázeň (15.2 %) a ohřívací dečka umístěná na podbřišek (5.5 %). Nejčastějšími léky byly nesteroidní antirevmatika (NSAID) užívané při nástupu menstruace. V 72 % byla léčba účinná, ve 4.2 % nebyla. Většina účastnic se medikovala sama a nezabývala se možnými vedlejšími účinky (p < 0.001). Většina účastnic (63 %) utratila 300 Nigerijských Naira a méně (1.9 US Dolarů a méně) za léčbu dysmenorey. Závěry: Výsledky potvrdily, že NSAID byly nejčastěji užívané medikamenty k léčbě dysmenorey, ale většinou bez znalosti potencionálních vedlejších účinků. Proto doporučujeme zapojení profesionálních zdravotníků do tohoto procesu., Objective: This study was performed to evaluate self-medication for the treatment of self-diagnosed dysmenorrhoea among a group of University of Maiduguri female students. Methods: The population of this randomized study was 289 female students suffering from dysmenorrhoea out of over 25 000 students attending a college of medicine and eight non-medical faculties of university of Maiduguri in Borno state, Nigeria. The students were interviewed using a self-administered pre-tested structured questionnaire in January, 2011. Results: The Mean ± Standard Deviation (SD) of age of the participants was 22.50 ± 3.12 years. Significant number 112 (38.8%) of participants use drugs to remedy menstrual pains followed by non-drug therapy while few combine both the drug and non-drug therapy for the pain management (p < 0.001). The most common non drug remedies employed by the participants were taking a hot bath (15.2%) and placing a heating pad on abdomen (5.5%). However, the most common drugs used by the participants were Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) which were usually taken orally at the onset of menstruation. Among the participants that used drug, 72% found it effective while 4.2% reported ineffectiveness. Significant majority of the participants usually self-prescribed their drugs, and were ignorant of the common side effects of these drugs (p < 0.001). Most participants (63%) spent 300 Nigerian Naira and below (1.9048 US Dollar and below) on drugs for dysmenorrhoea every month. Conclusion: The results confirmed that NSAIDs were the most common drugs used for dysmenorrhoea treatment, but frequently used without knowledge of potential side effects due to self-medication. Cíl: Cílem šetření bylo zjistit, jak studenti ošetřovatelství hodnotí svoji klinickou praxi, spolupráci s mentorem, jaké aspekty ovlivňují jejich spokojenost s praxí a jak se hodnocení praxe liší na jednotlivých odděleních. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor zahrnoval 59 studentů druhého a třetího ročníku oboru všeobecná sestra. Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno standardizovaným nástrojem pro hodnocení klinické výukové prostředí a supervize CLES (Saarikoski, 2002) po absolvované klinické praxi studentů (2008). Výsledky: Byly potvrzeny rozdíly v hodnocení supervize a klinického výukového prostředí vzhledem k typu oddělení, kdy interní oddělení byla studenty hodnocena kladněji. Studenti hodnotili nejvyššími známkami dimenzi ošetřovatelská péče na oddělení, nejhůře pak vztah mezi mentorem a studentem. Současně byly potvrzeny pozitivní korelace mezi celkovou spokojeností studentů a jejich hodnocením. Statisticky významné vztahy byly identifikovány mezi zátěží sester na oddělení a hodnocením studentů – s vyšší fyzickou zátěží sester byla supervize a klinické výukové pracoviště hodnoceno kladněji. Závěr: Výsledky šetření ukazují na význam supervize a kvalitního klinického výukového prostředí pro ošetřovatelské praxe. Praktická výuka tvoří významnou část vzdělávacího programu sester, a proto je nezbytné sledovat zkušenosti a reflexe studentů., Objective: The aim of this study was to find out how nursing students evaluate their clinical practice, co-operation with the mentor, what aspects affects their satisfaction with the practice and how the evaluation of practice varies from wards. Methods: The sample comprised of 59 nursing students of the second and third year of study. The survey was realized by standardized Clinical Learning Environment and Supervision instrument CLES (Saarikoski, 2002) after the completion of students clinical practice (2008). Results: Differences were confirmed in the evaluation of the supervision and clinical learning environment depending on the type of wards, when the internal wards were evaluated by students more favourably. Students rated the dimension of nursing care at the word the highest marks, the lowest was rated the relationship between mentors and students. At the same time were confirmed positive correlations between students’ overall satisfaction and their evaluation. Statistically significant relationship were identified between the nurses´ workload in the wards and students´ assessment – with the higher workload of nurses was the supervision and clinical learning environment evaluated more favourably. Conclusion: The results of survey show the importance of clinical supervision and quality of clinical learning environment for nursing practice. Autorka na základě nově zpřístupněného fondu v Národním archivu připomíná historii Univerzity 17. listopadu a soustředí se na soužití zahraničních studentů s domácím obyvatelstvem v socialistickém Československu v šedesátých letech minulého století. Univerzita 17. listopadu fungovala v Praze a posléze i v Bratislavě v letech 1961 až 1974 jako vzdělávací instituce určená pro studenty ze zemí „třetího světa“, ale i jako školicí středisko pro československé experty mířící do rozvojových zemí, a její existence souvisela s tehdejším československým pronikáním do Afriky, motivovaným politicko-ideologicky a ekonomicky. Její zřízení vycházelo z očekávání, že absolventi univerzity se stanou emisary československých zájmů ve svých domovských státech, tato představa se však podle autorky spíše nenaplnila. Za poměrně častými konflikty mezi československou společností a zahraničnímu studenty vidí autorka především předsudky a averze zdejšího uzavřeného prostředí, k jejichž překonání příliš nepomohla oficiální „internacionalistická“ propaganda ani nedůsledné pokusy o řešení vzniklých incidentů. Otevřenější reflexe těchto problémů nastala až s pražským jarem 1968, kdy Univerzita 17. listopadu také vydávala časopis Fórum zahraničních studentů. Přesto však podle autorky nelze ignorovat přínos této instituce, která přispěla k rozkvětu řady specializovaných vědeckých oborů v Československu (například egyptologie, afrikanistiky, iberoamerikanistiky, etnografie a translatologie) a k navázaní dlouhodobých užitečných kontaktů ve „třetím světě“., Using recently released record groups in the National Archives, Prague, the author considers the history of the University of 17 November (Univerzita 17. listopadu), focusing on the lives of foreign students amongst the local inhabitants of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in the 1960s and early 1970s. The University of 17 November operated in Prague and then in Bratislava from 1961 to 1974 as an educational institution for students from the ‘Third World’, but also as training centre for Czechoslovak experts heading out to developing countries. Its existence was also linked with Czechoslovak attempts to gain a foothold in Africa, motivated ideologically, politically, and economically. It was established with the expectation that graduates from the university would become emissaries of Czechoslovak interests in their home countries. But this expectation, argues the author, was not quite met. Behind the comparatively frequent conflicts between the foreign students and the natives of Czechoslovakia the author sees mainly the prejudice and aversion of the closed local milieu, which were not overcome by either the official ‘internationalist’ propaganda or the inconsistent attempts to deal with incidents that arose. Only after the Prague Spring of 1968, when the University of 17 November was publishing a magazine, Fórum zahraničních studentů (Foreign Students’ Forum), were these problems reflected upon more openly. Nevertheless, according to the author, one cannot ignore the contribution that this institution made towards the flowering of a number of specialized academic fields in Czechoslovakia, including African studies, Latin American studies, ethnography, and translation studies, and to establishing useful long-term contacts in the Third World., Marta Edith Holečková., and Obsahuje bibliografii
