V současnosti probíhá výzkum jeho ekologie, která se v mnohém ukazuje jiná než u ostatních podobných druhů. and Only in 2001 was the Alcathoe Bat (Myotis alcathoe) described as a new species in Europe. It was distinguished as a separate, cryptic species from the Whiskered Bat (M. mystacinus) complex. Moreover, further studies revealed that the group consisting of the Alcathoe Bat, Whiskered Bat and Brandt’s Bat (M. brandtii), includes an unrelated, but very similar species. In 2005, the Alcathoe Bat was also recorded in the Czech Republic and its ecology is currently being studied: it seems to be quite different in comparison with similar species.
Příspěvek prezentuje dvojici artefaktů vyrobených z lidských kostí, pocházející z různých lokalit mladší doby bronzové na Moravě. Vzhledem k jistým formálním shodám jsou dále prezentovány nálezy hlazených a vrtaných artefaktů podobného stáří, vyráběných ovšem z mnohem běžnějšího materiálu, kostí koně a tura. A neglected sort of the Late Bronze Age bone industry. The work presents a pair of artefacts made from human bones and originating from various locations in Late Bronze Age Moravia. Due to a certain formal congruence, also finds of smoothed and drilled artefacts of a similar age are presented, which are however made from more common material such as horse or ox bone. From a smaller amount of publications on similar artefacts of prehistoric origin published thus far, it appears that these also include items that can functionally be interpreted as skates or sled runners, as well as artefacts of an entirely different function, used as hide burnishers, or other.
Intriguing power of weak bonds (Noncovalent interactions in biodisciplines). The role of weak noncovalent interactions in nature, especially in biodisciplines, is demonstrated. First, it is emphasized how strongly properties of the most common solvent and biomedium, water, are influence by noncovalent interactions. Also structure and properties of typical biomolecules, nucleic acids and proteins result from noncovalent interactions, and the important role of dispersion forces in these systems is stressed. The physical origin of the noncovalent interactions is explained. The very important manifestation of the noncovalent interactions in biology, hydrogen bond, is extended to the newly discovered type of hydrogen bond, called improper (blue-shifted) hydrogen bond. Finally, the role of noncovalent interactions in silico drug design is briefly discussed.
U evolučně původnější skupin žab drží samec při páření samici v oblasti beder (inguiální amplexus). Zdokumentováno bylo pozorování netypického chování páru kuňky žlutobřiché (Bombina variegata) při amplexu axilárním (úchop za předními končetinami). and In the evolutionarily more original frog groups, during mating the male frogs keep the female frog just in front of the hind legs. However, atypical behaviour in a Yellow-Bellied Toad (Bombina variegata) pair, when the male kept just behind the female’s front legs, has been documented by the author.
A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THE EARLY LA TÈNE FINDS FROM JAROMĚŘ. The 12 decorated bronze discs apparently deposited in a bronze cremation urn in an area outside the main concentration of contemporary Early La Tène finds in Bohemia are judged by the authors – in the light of new results from archaeological research and newly–applied archive data – to be a reflection of the system of trade communication linking Central Europe to Silesia over a long stretch of time. While in the Hallstatt period these lines of communication are linked to the appearance of settlement agglomerations and tumulus burial fields, in the Early La Tène they are linked to hoard of bronze discs, which the authors believe to have been armorial decorations.
Jablonický, Jozef: Samizdat o odboji: Štúdie a články. Bratislava, Kalligram 2004, 528 stran. Publikace obsahuje jedenáct studií spojených tematikou protifašistického povstání a odboje na Slovensku, které Jablonický napsal v sedmdesátých a osmdesátých letech minulého století, kdy nemohl veřejně působit jako historik a státní orgány se mu soustavně snažily překazit jeho vědeckou práci (původní texty některých studií byly například zabaveny při domovní prohlídce). Podle recenzenta si tyto statě stále uchovávají svůj přínos a v některých směrech jsou dokonce nejlepším či téměř jediným zpracováním problematiky. Jablonický v nich detailně a nezaujatě skládá obraz historického dění, vykresluje portréty aktérů a uvádí na pravou míru odbojové legendy komunistické historiografie. and Jablonický, Jozef. Samizdat o odboji: Štúdie a články. Bratislava: Kalligram, 2004, 528 pp. The volume, whose title translates as “Samizdat about the Resistance: Studies and Articles”, comprises eleven articles about the Slovak uprising and the resistance, which Jablonický wrote in the 1970s and ’80s, when he was prevented from working openly as an historian and the state authorities were systematically trying to hamper his scholarly work. (For example, the original versions of the some of the essays were confiscated during police searches of his home). According to the reviewer these essays continue to be a contribution and also, in some senses, even the best or almost the only treatment of the topic. Here, Jablonický provides detailed, unbiased pictures of historical events and portraits of the actors in them, and puts the resistance legends of Communist historiography in their proper perspective.
