- Blokátory angiotenzinových receptorů typu 1 (AT1-blokátory, sartany) patří mezi základní antihypertenzní látky vhodné pro monoterapii i kombinační léčbu hypertenze. AT1-blokátory mají srovnatelné účinky s dalšími hlavními třídami antihypertenziv včetně ACE-inhibitorů. Dle současných doporučení České společnosti pro hypertenzi jsou sartany spolu s ACE-inhibitory a blokátory kalciových kanálů považovány za tzv. univerzální antihypertenziva. Mají ze všech antihypertenziv nejméně nežádoucích účinků a nemocní léčení sartany vykazují nejlepší dlouhodobou perzistenci k léčbě. V článku jsou diskutovány mechanizmy antihypertenzního účinku jakož i srovnání antihypertenzních účinků sartanů s dalšími antihypertenzními látkami. Jsou uvedeny výsledky větších klinických studií se sartany a indikace u arteriální hypertenze., Angiotensin receptor antagonists (AT1-blockers) are considered as one of the major classes of antihypertensive drugs suitable for monotherapy as well as for combination treatment. AT1-blockers have comparable antihypertensive efficacy with other major classes of antihypertensive drugs. AT1-blockers are considered by current guidelines of Czech society of hypertension altogether with ACE-inhibitors and calcium channel blockers as universal antihypertensive drug class. AT1-blockers has the lowest profile of side-effects among all antihypertensive drug classes and thus very high persistence to therapy. Mechanisms of antihypertensive effects of AT1-blockers are discussed altogether with the results of large clinical trials and indications in the treatment of hypertension., and Jiří Widimský Jr.

- Nejúspěšnějšími autotrofními makroorganismy nezaledněných území Antarktidy jsou nepochybně lišejníky. Jejich husté a druhově bohaté porosty nacházíme nejen na klimaticky relativně příznivých lokalitách západního okraje kontinentu, ale i v oblastech mnohem drsnějších. Několik druhů přežívá dokonce hluboko ve vnitrozemí za 86° jižní šířky, kde panují po celý rok velmi tuhé mrazy. Najdeme je i na větrem bičovaných skalách v nadmořské výšce nad 2 400 metrů. Rostou sice pomalu, zato doba jejich života se neměří na roky, ale na století. Přežívání lišejníků i v těch nejextrémnějších podmínkách je podmíněno celou řadou zvláštností jejich vnitřní stavby i fyziologických funkcí. and Lichens are among the most successful autotrophic macro-organisms of non-glaciated parts of Antarctica. Their dense and species-rich growth formations can be found not only in climatically relatively mild localities of the western part of the continent but also in much harsher areas. Several species survive even far inland, in the area with hard freezing throughout the year. Lichens can grow even in rocks open to wind, at altitudes above 2 400 m. They grow slowly, but can survive hundreds of years. The survival of lichens in the most extreme conditions is the result of a whole range of peculiarities in their inner structure and in their physiological functions.

- Přestože naprostá většina povrchu „bílého kontinentu“ je pokryta mocnou vrstvou ledu a nejeví žádné známky života, najdeme v Antarktidě i četná nezaledněná území. Patří mezi ně i Antarktický poloostrov, kterému bude v tomto seriálu věnována hlavní pozornost. Rozvoj terestrických ekosystémů po ústupu ledovců zde významně ovlivňuje přítomnost ptáků, kteří svými exkrementy obohacují živinami chudé skalní substráty. Díky nim se tu navzdory drsným podmínkám vyvinula zajímavá společenstva rostlin a lišejníků. and Although most of the „White Continent” is covered by a thick layer of ice and shows no signs of life, numerous non-glaciated parts can also be found there. The development of terrestrial ecosystems after the recession of glaciers is highly influenced by birds whose excrement enriches rocky substrates poor in nutrients. In consequence of this, interesting communities of plants and lichens have developed, in spite of the severe conditions existing there.

- Prokaryotní sinice a řasy svým významem a rozšířením patří mezi hlavní složky současné antarktické vegetace. Jsou schopny neobyčejně rychlého startu vegetace, rychlého namnožení velké biomasy a okamžitého přechodu do klidových stadií, která snášejí i velmi nízké teploty po dlouhou dobu. Jsou proto velmi hojné na všech stanovištích, kde se alespoň po krátké období během roku vyskytuje voda v tekutém stavu. and Prokaryot blue-green algae and algae are among the major components of Antarctic vegetation due to their importance and wide distribution. They can very rapidly start their growing period, produce a great amount of biomass and pass immediately into dormancy, during which they can survive very low temperatures for a long period. For this reason they are very frequent in localities with water in liquid form for at least a short period of the year.

- Ačkoli na první pohled vypadají mechorosty velmi zranitelně, v drsných podmínkách Antarktidy nejen přežívají, ale mají dokonce nejvyšší rychlost produkce biomasy ze všech terestrických organismů. Ovšem jen na vhodných místech a ve vhodnou dobu. Pro mechorosty je nutnou podmínkou existence periodické ovlhčování vodou v tekutém stavu, a tak není divu, že je téměř nenajdeme na extrémně chladných a suchých místech hlouběji ve vnitrozemí či ve vyšších polohách pobřežních hor. Přispívá k tomu i jejich poměrně malá odolnost vůči mechanickému působení větru a sněhu (ve srovnání s lišejníky) na exponovaných místech. and Although bryophytes look very fragile, in the harsh Antarctic conditions they not only survive, but have the highest speed of biomass production of all terrestrial organisms – but only in special localities and at certain periods. Periodic moistening by water in a liquid form is a basic condition for their existence. Hence they could not exist in extremely cold and dry localities inland or at higher altitudes in coastal mountain ranges. The negative influence is increased by the mechanical forces of wind and snow in exposed localities.

- První český mezioborový výzkumný projekt zaměřený na studium odledněných oblastí na pobřeží Antarktidy začal v roce 1999. Studium biodiverzity a fyziologie stresu mechorostů a lišejníků probíhalo na několika ostrovech poblíž západního pobřeží Antarktického poloostrova. Nedávno vybudovaná česká výzkumná stanice na severním pobřeží ostrova Jamese Rosse je vhodnou základnou pro pokračování studia terestrických ekosystémů se zvláštním ohledem k reakci antarktické bioty na očekávanou klimatickou změnu. and The first Czech interdisciplinary research project focused on ecological study of the Antarctic coastal deglaciated areas was started in 1999. Research into biodiversity and stress physiology of mosses and lichens was realized in several islands near the western coast of Antarctic Peninsula. A new Czech research station which has been recently built on the north coast of James Ross Island could be an excellent basis for continuation of research work in terrestrial ecosystems with special regard to the response of Antarctic biota to the expected climate change.

- Kromě lišejníků amechů rostou v Antarktidě idva druhy krytosemenných rostlin - Colobanthus quitensis z čeledi hvozdíkovitých (Caryophyllaceae) a metlice Deschampsia antarctica z čel. lipnicovitých (Poaceae). Proč se v teplejších oblastech Antarktidy daří dlouhodobě přežívat jen dvěma, na první pohled nijak zvláštním druhům, když v klimaticky podobných podmínkách vysoké Arktidy jich nacházíme několik set? Mají tyto dva druhy nějaké unikátní adaptace k životu v Antarktidě, nebo je to spíše otázka šťastné náhody, která přispěla k přenosu jejich semen na odloučený kontinent? and Besides lichens and bryophytes, two species of angiosperms grow in Antarctica – Colobanthus quitensis belonging to the family Caryophyllaceae and Deschampsia antarctica from the family Poaceae. Why can only these two species, without any visual specific features, survive in warmer regions of Antarctica, while in climatically similar conditions of the high Arctic several hundred such species grow? Do these two species possess some unique adaptability to life in Antarctica, or is it rather a question of chance that their seeds were transferred to this isolated continent?

1480. Anterior pituitary weight, cAMP, cGMP and prolactin levels after combined treatment with estradiol and Methylene Blue

- Male rats received estradiol benzoate in a long acting microcrystalline suspension (1 mg/rat i.m., twice a week), methylene blue (MB) 0.5 % in the food and the combination of estradiol and MB. After three weeks, MB partially inhibited the growth response of the anterior pituitary to estradiol and it partially inhibited the increase of cAMP content in anterior pituitary. The increase of anterior pituitary cGMP content was not modified by MB, neither the ratio cAMP/cGMP in the anterior pituitary which, however, decreased after estradiol. This decrease was not modified by MB. On the other hand, the prolactin (PRL) increase in the blood after estradiol was inhibited by MB, although the prolactin content in the anterior pituitary was not. Methylene blue alone did not change blood prolactin concentration, but it unexpectedly elevated blood thyroxine levels and this effect was partially inhibited by simultaneous estradiol treatment.
