Studie Gerontologického centra Praha využívá souboru kvantitativních i kvalitativních metod, které navíc umožní sledovat vedle primárního cíle také různé aspekty života seniorů v institucích., The research project "Impact of reminiscence therapy on the health and quality of life of seniors living in elderly care institutions," carried out with the support of grant IGA MZCR (no. NR 8488- 3/2005) by the interdisciplinary team of the Prague Gerontology Centre, evaluates the impact of targeted nonpharmacological intervention, specifically group reminiscence therapy, on the health and quality of life of elderly clients living in retirement homes. The evaluation of the impact of reminiscence therapy as the only factor in a complex social environment places high demands on the methods applied, and involves the risk of the results being influenced by factors beyond control. A number of studies have supplied measurements which still leave some doubt, yet are indicative of trends bearing evidence of a positive effect of reminiscence on symptoms of dementia, depression, behaviour, mood and life satisfaction of elderly people. Such trends are confirmed by qualitative results. The study of the Prague Gerontology Centre draws upon a set of quantitative and qualitative methods which, in addition to the primary endpoint, allows for monitoring different aspects of life of seniors in elderly care institutions., Hana Janečková, Iva Holmerová, Hana Vaňková, Eva Dragomirecká, and Lit.: 38

A range of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, 1H liquid spectroscopy and T1 and T2 relaxation measurements, and microimaging, have been used to observe changes taking place within the bodies of live samples of Coccinella septempunctata, under a variety of conditions. NMR measurements showed that various organs could be seen and identified. It also showed that by changing the diet of the ladybird from aphids [Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris)] to a standard artificial diet, major changes took place in the insects' tissues. By using a combination of all three techniques it was concluded that on changing the diet of C. septempunctata a mass of nutrient was built up within the insect's abdomen possibly in the same manner as happens before diapause. Changes in the response to NMR measurements were also seen after infection of C. septempunctata by the parasitoid wasp (Dinocampus coccinellae). Most significantly an image of the parasitoid larva could be seen within the body mass of the ladybird. It was concluded that NMR could become a major tool in the non-destructive study of insects not just as a means of studying anatomy but also to observe changes in the nature of body tissue.
In this review paper we study the atmospheric and oceanic effects in nutation. It is a continuation and summary of our previous studies that we made during the last five years or so. We use slightly modified methods and apply them to the most recent data (both atmospheric/oceanic excitation functions and combined solution of celestial pole offsets by International
VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry - IVS). We find th at the atmospheric and oceanic excitations provide significant changes in nutation, mostly with annual and semi-annual periods. The numerical integration of Brzeziński’s broadband Liouville equations yield Free Core Nutation (FCN) that is consistent with VLBI-based observed values. The analysis of VLBI observations shows small quasi-periodic fluctuations of the period and qua
lity factor of retrograde FCN, ranging between 429.8 to 430.5 days and 17000 to 22000, respectively. To this end, we use resonant effects in several dominant forced nutation terms to calculate the period and quality factor of FCN in running 6-year intervals. Numerically integrated geophysical excitations are removed fro the observed celestial pole offsets, and the remaining part is used again to derive the period and quality factor of FCN in running intervals. Our conclusion is that the observed quasi-periodic variations of both parameters are not caused by these geophysical excitations, but another source should be searched for.
The aim of this research was to investigate the macro- and microelements composition in the cerebrospinal fluid and in the blood serum of patients, with different consequences of TBI before and after complex treatment, with the use of endolumbal and intracystal introduction of ozone and pyracetam in dynamics. Macro- and microelements composition was investigated in the cerebrospinal fluid and serum of 83 patients. State of neurological disorders in patients evaluated by the Glasgow Outcome Scale was extended. Thus, positive changes may be noted in the metabolism of macro- and microelements in the blood serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients who were treated according to our introductions of ozone., Mansur Aliev, Abdurakhmon Mamadaliev, and Literatura
Evaluation of seismic loading in urban areas is not a simple process. The horizontal to vertical spectral ratio method technique has been often used for determination of site effect recently. Results from the re-interpretation of mining induced seismic events from Karviná region in frequency domain using archival databases will be presented in this study material. Also, spectra of continuous records (a bout two days) and evolution of spectra within a moving time window of the length 10 seconds are presented. These continuous records were registered on two places with different geological conditions., Zdeněk Kaláb and Alexey A. Lyubushin., and Obsahuje bibliografické odkazy
