V kazuistice je popsán průběh onemocnění 55letého nemocného s neuroendokrinním tumorem a postižením jater, pankreatu, mezenteria, tenkého střeva a mediastina. Léčba spočívala v podávání analog somatostatinu a při progresi onemocnění byla přidána léčba sunitinibem., Case history of 55 years old man with neuroendocrine tumor of liver, pankreas, mesentery, small intestine and mediastinum is decribed. Cold tolerance of the eggs of the grasshopper, Chorthippus fallax (Zubovsky), was examined in the laboratory. Egg supercooling points varied from -6°C to -32.4°C and could be divided into two groups. The supercooling points of the higher SCP group ranged from -6°C to -14°C and those of lower SCP group from -21.8°C to -32.4°C. Although low temperature acclimation could slightly decrease the supercooling points of eggs, the effect was not significant for all embryonic developmental stages or acclimation periods. The supercooling capacity was obviously different between pre-diapause, diapause and post-diapause embryonic stages. The mean supercooling points of pre-diapause and diapause eggs were similar; -28.8 ± 1.6°C and -30.7 ± 1.0°C for non-acclimated eggs and -29.5 ± 1.3°C and -31.18 ± 0.8°C for acclimated eggs respectively. However, the mean supercooling points of post-diapause eggs were significantly higher; -12.9 ± 5.6°C for non-acclimated and -13.5 ± 4.5°C for acclimated eggs respectively. The survival rates of diapause eggs at > -25°C were not significantly different from that at 25°C, but survival rates at < -30°C decreased significantly. The lethal temperature (Ltemp50) for a 12 hrs exposure was -30.1°C, and the lethal time (Ltime50) at -25°C was 44 days. Since the SCPs of diapause eggs was similar to their Ltemp50, we may consider the supercooling capacity of such eggs is a good indicator of their cold hardiness and the species is a true freeze avoiding insect. Based on the analysis of local winter temperature data, pre-diapause and diapause, low SCP eggs can safely survive severe winters, but not the post-diapause, high SCP eggs. The importance of the overwintering strategy and the relationship between diapause and cold hardiness of this species is discussed.
The activities of cytosol superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) and mitochondrial superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) were measured in subcellular fractions of homogenates prepared from the brain, thymus and liver of ovariectomized (OVX) female rats, non-treated or treated 24 h prior to sacrifice with a single s.c. dose of 0.1 ml olive oil. In the brain, neither MnSOD nor CuZnSOD were affected by olive oil, whereas in the thymus the olive oil injection elevated CuZnSOD and did not affect MnSOD activity. At the same time, the activity of CuZnSOD was reduced and that of MnSOD was elevated in the liver following oil treatment. These results suggest that olive oil has modulatory effects on the expression of CuZnSOD and MnSOD activity in the liver and of CuZnSOD in the thymus of female rats.
On the basis of a twenty-year investigation, the life-cycle of Torymus cyanimus Boheman (Hymenoptera: Torymidae), a hyperparasitoid of a gall-forming fly in the Volga-Kama region is described. This parasitoid is the top-consumer in a food chain on Cirsium setosum (Willdenow) Iljin, in which the herbivore is Urophora cardui L. (Diptera: Tephritidae) and the primary parasitoids belong to the genus Eurytoma (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae). Mating and oviposition behaviour were studied, and the superparasitism and larval cannibalism investigated in the second parasitoid generation. The superparasitism in T. cyanimus evolved in connection with the ovipositor elongation, leading to eggs being laid later when the fly host has already been completely consumed by larvae of Eurytoma serratulae F. Hyperparasitism and larval cannibalism in the second generation of T. cyanimus might account for the evolution of hyperparasitism in this species.
Adjuvantná rádioterapia prispieva k lepším výsledkom u pacientov s karcinómom prsníka po prsník zachovávajúcej operácii. Ožarovanie celého prsníka je spojené s poškodením srdca a pľúc, zvýšením kardiovaskulárných ochorení a mortality, a vývojom karcinómu pľúc, teda s rizikami, ktoré sa môžu objaviť 15–20 rokov po liečbe. Ožarovanie prsníka v pronačnej polohe pacientky je jednou z možností ako redukovať radiačne podmienenú toxicitu u pacientiek s veľkými prsníkmi podstupujúcimi adjuvantnú liečbu. V kazuistikách poukážeme na rozdiely v objeme srdca a pľúc pri oboch polohách, porovnáme dozimetrické parametre pri ožarovaní prsníka v oboch pozíciách a poukážeme na rozdiely pri ich plánovaní. Tieto techniky nie je možné kombinovať s ožiarením lymfatických uzlín, ale môžu byť použité pri liečbe obojstranných nádorov., Adjuvant radiotherapy contributes to better outcomes in patients with breast cancer after breast conserving surgery. Whole breast irradiation is associated with damage to the heart and lungs, increased cardiovascular mortality, and the development of lung cancer, that is, with the risks that may occur 15–20 years after treatment. Breast irradiation in the prone position, is one of the way to reduce radiation toxicity in patients conditioned with large breasts undergoing adjuvant therapy. In case reports point out the differences in the volume of the heart and lungs at both locations, we compare the dosimetric parameters in breast irradiation in both positions and point out the differences in their planning. Přehled problematiky: Magnézium je čtvrtým nejčastějším kationtem v lidském organizmu a po draslíku druhým kationtem v intracelulárním prostoru. Účastní se jako kofaktor enzymů metabolických reakcí, tvorby a utilizace energie a je nezbytný k udržení elektrolytové rovnováhy. Tělo dospělého člověka obsahuje asi 0,043 % (535-730 mmol) magnézia, což je v přepočtu asi 22-30 g (60 % v kostěném skeletu, 40 % intracelulárně ve svalovině a měkkých tkáních, 1 % (7,5-10 mmol) je obsaženo v extracelulární tekutině). Denní potřeba magnézia se odhaduje na 10-20 mmol, tj. 200-400 mg. Ve vztahu k podané dávce pak platí, že čím vyšší podaná dávka, tím nižší procento rezorbce ze střeva. Z doporučené denní dávky 15 mmol (365 mg) se rezorbuje pouze okolo 1/3. Význam magnézia v těhotenství: Důsledkem manifestního nedostatku magnézia může být: 1. zvýšené riziko potratu - předčasný porod (inkompetence hrdla děložního, předčasný odtok vody plodové), 2. placentární insuficience a hypotrofizace plodu, 3. rozvoj gestózy u matky, 4. zvýšené riziko astmatu a ekzému u dětí. Magnézium sulfát, podávaný těhotným ohroženým předčasným porodem (23+0 -30+0), snižuje riziko dětské mozkové obrny u přežívajících novorozenců. Souhrn: Nedoporučuje se používat intravenózní magnézium sulfát v indikaci léčby hrozícího předčasného porodu déle jak 5-7 dní. The administration of creatine (5 g/day for one month) to 11 young active sportsmen affected their urinary excretion of creatine, creatinine, and thiodiglycolic acid (TDGA) as well as blood levels of homocysteine, vitamin B12 and folates. The probands were divided into four groups, according to the amount of creatine found in urine, and of folates and vitamin B12 determined in blood. The changes of folates and vitamin B12 were mutually reciprocal. Each group utilized CR as donor of one- and two-carbon (1C and 2C) units by means of homocysteine (HoCySH), folates, and vitamin B12, in different metabolic pathways. In 10 men the creatine administration was accompanied by an increase of HoCySH level in blood, while in the last man, with accidentally discovered hyperhomocysteinemia, the HoCySH level dropped by 50 %. Differences between initial and terminal TDGA levels indicate that creatine affects equilibria of redox processes.
