Recently it has been shown that vitamin D3 acting via its cognate receptor (VDR) regulates the growth, differentiation and function of female reproductive tissues including ovary. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of testosterone (T) and its antagonist 2-hydroxyflutamide (HF) on VDR protein expression and function in porcine ovarian follicles. Medium size antral follicles expressing great amount of androgen receptors and represent high steroidogenic activity were used in this research. After 6 h incubation of whole follicles with T, HF or T+HF, immunohistochemical analysis of VDR revealed its nuclear localization in granulosa and theca interna cells in control and experimental groups. The expression of VDR protein was shown as a band of 48 kDa. There were no significant differences between either experimental group and the control. T influenced the function of VDR through decreased formation of VDR/RXR (retinoid X receptor) complexes (P<0.05) in both granulosa and theca interna cells, but HF abolished this effect only in granulosa cells (P<0.05). The geometric shape of the distal anastomosis in an infrainguinal bypass has an influence on its durability. In this article, we compared three different angles of the anastomosis with regard to the hemodynamics. Three experimental models of the distal infrainguinal anastomosis with angles of 25°, 45°, and 60° respectively were constructed according to the similarity theory to assess flow in the anastomoses using particle image velocimetry and computational fluid dynamics. In the toe, heel, and floor of the anastomosis that correspond to the locations worst affected by intimal hyperplasia, adverse blood flow and wall shear stress were observed in the 45° and 60° models. In the 25° model, laminar blood flow was apparent more peripherally from the anastomosis. In conclusions, decreasing the
distal anastomosis angle in a femoropopliteal bypass results in more favorable hemodynamics including the flow pattern and wall shear stress
in locations susceptible to intimal hyperplasia.
This article is aimed at describing the role of the human rights in the Czech legal order and especiallythe manner in which human rights reflect in the system of the Czech private law. Firstly, the authorsprovide brief description of the bases of the constitutional order in the Czech Republic so that they could explainthe manner in which the constitutional human and basic rights are reflected in private law. For betterunderstanding, the authors presented numerous decisions of the Czech Constitutional Court regarding therole of human and basic rights in the area of civil law. Last but not least, the authors outline the concept ofcompensation for immaterial loss and protection of consumers in the Czech law.
In order to evaluate the influence of the respiratory cycle on the EEG, we compared the power spectral analysis of the EEG performed by fast Fourier transformation during inspirium and exspirium in 10 healthy subjects. The measurement was performed during spontaneous breathing and then during eupnoe (0.25 Hz), bradypnoe (0.1 Hz) and tachypnoe (0.5 Hz) paced by a metronome. In the course of spontaneous breathing and bradypnoe, there was an increase in the delta power and in the total power in the anterior temporal region during inspirium in comparison with exspirium. The eupnoe was characterized by an inspiratory decrease in the delta power in the parietal region and in the total power in the frontal region. The tachypnoe resulted in a decrease of the beta power in the central region and a decrease of the theta power in the posterior temporal and in the occipital region during inspirium. In comparison of the EEG in eupnoe, bradypnoe and tachypnoe, a decrease of spectral power of all spectral bands was found except for delta during faster breathing frequencies and vice versa with a significant difference which wa
s found mostly between bradypnoe and tachypnoe, less frequently between eupnoe and tachypnoe.
The oribatid mite Galumna elimata was reared under laboratory conditions on algae (Protacoccus spp.) at different temperatures (5, 15 and 20°C). Higher weight-specific amylolytic activity was found in the whole body homogenates of mites exposed to cold acclimation (5°C, 21 days) in comparison with individuals acclimated to 15 and 20°C. Accompanying parameters (live body weight, content of total soluble proteins in the body, protein-specific amylolytic activity, presence and composition of food boluses, activity of mesenteric and caecal wall cells, gregarinid parasitisation, number of glycogen granulae and guanine deposits in mesenchymal tissue, presence of proventricular glands) were investigated at all three acclimation temperatures to explain mechanisms of this change. The acclimation response of weight-specific amylolytic activity was accompanied by elevation of protein-specific amy lolytic activity. Microanatomical features did not confirm any increased secretion activity of mesenteric and caecal cells in cold acclimated animals. Granulation and apocrine secretion of these cells increased with increasing temperature as with food ingestion. The food boluses contained algae or algae mixed with unknown fungal hyphae in individuals acclimated to 15 and 20°C. The concentrated mucoid substances prevailed in animals exposed to cold, indicating lower feeding activity at 5°C. Metabolism of palmitate-14C was studied in the rat liver and muscle incubated with 1 mmol.1-1 tolbutamide in vitro experiments: Tolbutamide reduces the utilization of free fatty acids in the liver by inhibiting their uptake, incorporation into total lipids, and oxidation to 14CC>2. Tolbutamide stimulates the incorporation into the triacylglycerol fraction in individual liver lipid fractions and inhibits the incorporation into the free fatty acid fraction. As in the liver, tolbutamide inhibits the uptake, incorporation into total lipids, and oxidation to 14C02 in the muscle. In individual lipid fractions, tolbutamide only inhibits the incorporation of palmitate into cholesterol esters. It can be concluded that tolbutamide directly interferes with fatty acid metabolism and thus improves glucose utilization and insulin resistance.
In normal practice, during the estimation of reservoir storage uncertainties affecting the values of mean monthly discharge series are not normally considered, and usually no estimates of these are known. Therefore, the question arises as to whether the results of the estimation of the capacity of storage reservoirs may be affected by uncertainties in the discharge series. The aim of this article is the suggestion of a possible approach to estimating the level of uncertainties affecting the elements of mean monthly discharge series. These discharge series are subsequently integrated into water reservoir storage capacity calculations, and the significance of the proposed approach is explored. and Nejistoty členů řad průměrných měsíčních průtoků nejsou v běžné praxi udávány, není ani znám odhad jejích velikostí. Cílem článku je naznačení možného postupu odhadu míry nejistot zatěžujících členy průtokové řady průměrných měsíčních průtoků a následné začlenění uvedené řady do výpočtů zásobního objemu vodní nádrže a posouzení významu uvedeného postupu.
The aim of our study was to determine whether adipocyte-derived hormones leptin, adiponectin and resistin contribute to the improvement of insulin sensitivity after very-low calorie diet (VLCD). Therefore, serum levels of these hormones were measured in fourteen obese females before and after three weeks VLCD and in seventeen age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Body mass index, HOMA index, serum insulin and leptin levels in obese women before VLCD were significantly higher than in control group (BMI 48.01±2.02 vs. 21.38±0.42 kg/m2, HOMA 10.72±2.03 vs. 4.69±0.42, insulin 38.63±5.10 vs. 18.76±1.90 μIU/ml, leptin 77.87±8.98 vs. 8.82±1.52 ng/ml). In contrast, serum adiponectin and soluble leptin receptors levels were significantly lower in obese women before VLCD than in the control group. No differences were found in serum glucose and resistin levels between the obese group before VLCD and the control group. VLCD significantly decreased BMI, HOMA index, serum glucose, insulin and leptin levels and increased soluble leptin receptor levels. The changes in serum adiponectin and resistin levels in obese women after VLCD did not reach statistical significance. We conclude that leptin and soluble leptin receptor levels were affected by VLCD while adiponectin and resistin concentrations were not. Therefore, other mechanisms rather than changes in the endocrine function of the adipose tissue are probably involved in the VLCD-induced improvement of insulin sensitivity.
A subgroup $H$ of a finite group $G$ is weakly-supplemented in $G$ if there exists a proper subgroup $K$ of $G$ such that $G=HK$. In the paper it is proved that a finite group $G$ is $p$-nilpotent provided $p$ is the smallest prime number dividing the order of $G$ and every minimal subgroup of $P\cap G'$ is weakly-supplemented in $N_{G}(P),$ where $P$ is a Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$. As applications, some interesting results with weakly-supplemented minimal subgroups of $P\cap G'$ are obtained.
