The paper describes a 3D numerical model of the spherical particle saltation. Two stages of particle saltation were distinguished - the particle free motion in water and the particle-bed collision. The particle motion consists of the translational and rotational particle motion. A stochastic method of calculation of the particle-bed collision was developed. The collision height and the contact point were defined as random variables. Impulse equations were used and the translational and angular velocity components of the moving particle immediately after the collision were expressed as functions of the velocity components just before the collision. The dimensionless coefficients of the drag force and drag torque were determined as functions of both translational and rotational Reynolds numbers. The model is in good agreement with known experimental data. Examples of calculation of the particles’ lateral dispersion and the mean absolute values of the deviation angle of the particle trajectory are presented. and Studie popisuje 3D numerický model saltačního pohybu kulovité částice, v němž jsou uvažována dvě fáze saltačního pohybu - volný pohyb částice v proudící vodě a kolise částice se dnem. Model počítá s translačním i rotačním pohybem částice. Byla vyvinuta stochastická metoda výpočtu kolise částice se dnem. Kolizní výška a kontaktní bod byly definovány jako náhodné proměnné. Byla použita soustava momentových rovnic a složky translační a rotační rychlosti pohybující se částice po kolizi byly vyjádřeny jako funkce složek rychlosti těsně před kolizí. Bezrozměrné koeficienty odporu částice a odporu rotující částice byly určeny jako funkce translačního i rotačního Reynoldsova čísla částice. Výsledky modelu jsou v dobré shodě se známými experimentálními daty. Studie presentuje příklady výpočtu příčné disperze částice a střední absolutní hodnoty deviačního úhlu trajektorie částice.
This paper deals with studying of two topics – measuring of velocity profile deformation behind a over-flooded construction and modelling of this velocity profile deformation by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Numerical simulations with an unsteady RANS models - Standard k-ε, Realizable k-ε, Standard k-ω and Reynolds stress models (ANSYS Fluent v.18) and experimental measurements in a laboratory flume (using ADV) were performed. Results of both approaches showed and affirmed presence of velocity profile deformation behind the obstacle, but some discrepancies between the measured and simulated values were also observed. With increasing distance from the obstacle, the differences between the simulation and the measured data increase and the results of the numerical models are no longer usable.
The age of the surfactant solution influences substantially effectiveness of drag reduction in a turbulent flow in tubes. In this paper are shown effects of both the surfactant concentration and the ratio of the surfactant to the compound containing counter ion, and their role in degradation rate at aging. and Stárnutí roztoku surfaktantu (povrchově aktivní látka) má velký vliv na účinnost snížení tření při turbulentním proudění vody v trubce. Byl zkoumán význam jak koncentrace surfaktantu, tak jeho poměru ke složce obsahující protiiont právě s ohledem na stárnutí roztoku.
Attractive and repulsive forces acting in the slurry due to different ions absorbed on surface of fine particles, especially colloidal ones, strongly affect the flow behaviour of highly concentrated fine-grained slurries. The attractive forces between the fine-grained solid particles initiate the coagulation process, which gives rise to voluminous aggregates where a large amount of water is fixed. A modification of the physicalchemical environment of the slurry by addition of a peptizing agent produces repulsive forces between particles. They result in destruction of the aggregates, water originally fixed in the aggregates is liberated, the viscous friction can play a larger role in the slurry, which is liquefied. To prove these process three different kaolin-water mixtures were tested with an overpressure capillary viscometer, rotational viscometer, and experimental pipeline loop. The effect of two peptizing agents and their concentration was investigated. It was demonstrated that even very low concentration of peptizing agent results in a significant reduction in the apparent viscosity and in the yield stress. and Přitažlivé a odpudivé síly působící mezi částicemi v suspenzi v důsledku různých iontů absorbovaných povrchem jemných, zejména koloidních částic, silně ovlivňují tokové chování vysoce koncentrovaných jemnozrnných suspenzí. Přitažlivé síly mezi jemnými částicemi iniciují proces koagulace, umožňují vznik objemných agregátů, v nichž je vázáno značné množství vody. Změna fyzikálně-chemického prostředí suspenze přidáním peptizačního činidla podpoří vznik odpudivých sil mezi částicemi, které způsobí rozbití objemných agregátů a voda vázaná v agregátech se uvolní, vazké tření tak bude hrát v suspenzi významnější roli a dojde k ztekucení suspenze. Tento proces byl ověřen experimentálním výzkumem třech různých kaolinových suspenzí jednak na kapilárním přetlakovém viskozimetru, na rotačním viskozimetru a na experimentální potrubní trase. Byl ověřen účinek dvou peptizačních činidel a bylo ukázáno, že velmi nízká koncentrace peptizačního činidla vede k významné redukci zdánlivé viskozity a počátečního napětí.
The paper describes results of experiments with rotating spherical particles moving in water. Rubber spherical balls with the density close to that of water were speeded up in a special inclined chute that ensured the required particle rotational and translational velocity in the given plane. A standard video system was used to capture particle trajectory and the evaluation was focused on the effects of two dimensionless parameters of the particle motion, Reynolds number and rotational Reynolds number. The values of the drag force and drag torque coefficients were determined from the experimental data and compared with the results of the numerical simulation of the particle motion. Relationships describing the above mentioned quantities, taking into account the mutual influence of the translational and the rotational particle movements and convenient for numerical models were found. and V příspěvku jsou prezentovány výsledky experimentálního výzkumu pohybu rotující kulovité částice ve vodě. Kulovitá částice vyrobená z gumy o hustotě blízké hustotě vody byla uvedena do pohybu v šikmé štěrbině, kde získala rotační i translační rychlost v osové rovině štěrbiny. Trajektorie částic ve vodě byly snímány standardní video kamerou a byl vyhodnocen vliv dvou bezrozměrných parametrů (Reynoldsova čísla a rotačního Reynoldsova čísla) na pohyb částice. Z experimentálních údajů byly určeny hodnoty odporového koeficientu a odporového momentu částice a tyto hodnoty byly porovnány s výsledky numerické simulace pohybu částice. Byly vyhodnoceny vztahy vhodné pro využití při numerickém modelování a popisující vzájemné závislosti výše uvedených veličin a vzájemný vliv translačního a rotačního pohybu částice.
The effect of solid concentration and mixture velocity on the flow behaviour, pressure drops, and concentration distribution of coarse particle-water mixtures in horizontal, vertical, and inclined smooth stainless steel pipes of inner diameter D = 100 mm was experimentally investigated. Graded basalt pebbles were used as solid particles. The study revealed that the coarse-grained particle-water mixtures in the horizontal and inclined pipes were significantly stratified. The solid particles moved principally in a layer close to the pipe invert; however for higher and moderate flow velocities, particle saltation became the dominant mode of particle conveyance. Frictional pressure drops in the horizontal pipe were found to be markedly higher than in the vertical pipe, while the frictional pressure drops in the ascending pipe increased with inclination angle up to about 30°.
Narrow particle size distribution basalt pebbles of mean particle size 11.5 mm conveyed by water in the pipe sections of different inclination were investigated on an experimental pipe loop, consisting of smooth stainless steel pipes of inner diameter D = 100 mm. Mixture flow-behaviour and particles motion along the pipe invert were studied in a pipe viewing section, the concentration distribution in pipe cross-section was studied with the application of a gamma-ray densitometer. The study refers to the effect of mixture velocity, overall concentration, and angle of pipe inclination on chord-averaged concentration profiles and local concentration maps, and flow behaviour of the coarse particle-water mixtures. The study revealed that the coarse particle-water mixtures in the inclined pipe sections were significantly stratified, the solid particles moved principally close to the pipe invert, and for higher and moderate flow velocities particle saltation becomes the dominant mode of particle conveying.
A three-dimensional numerical simulation of particle motion in a pipe with a rough bed is presented. The simulation based on the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) employs the hybrid diffuse bounce-back approach to model moving boundaries. The bed of the pipe is formed by stationary spherical particles of the same size as the moving particles. Particle movements are induced by gravitational and hydrodynamic forces. To evaluate the hydrodynamic forces, the Momentum Exchange Algorithm is used. The LBM unified computational frame makes it possible to simulate both the particle motion and the fluid flow and to study mutual interactions of the carrier liquid flow and particles and the particle–bed and particle–particle collisions. The trajectories of simulated and experimental particles are compared. The

This paper deals with the numerical simulation of spherical particle saltation in a channel with a rough transversely tilted bed. The numerical model presented is based on the 3D model of spherical particle saltation developed by the authors, which takes into account the translational and rotational particle motion. The stochastic method and the concept of a contact zone were used for the calculation of a particle trajectory and its dependence on the bed lateral slope, particle diameter, and shear velocity. The effect of the bed lateral slope results in a deviation of the particle trajectory from the downstream direction. Some examples of the calculation are presented. The trajectories of the saltating particles starting their movements from one point were calculated and it was shown that they are of random character and together create a bundle or fascicle of trajectories. It was found that the centrelines of the bundles can be approximated by the straight lines for low and moderate values of the bed transverse slope, i.e. slopes less than 20°. The angle of deviation of the centreline from the downstream direction increases when the bed lateral slope and/or the particle diameters increase. However, with increasing shear velocity, the deviation angle decreases. Due to the lateral bed slope the particles are sorted according to their size, and the criteria for sorting particles were defined. An example of the particle sorting was calculated and the separable and nonseparable regions were determined. and Studie popisuje numerickou simulaci saltačního pohybu kulovité částice v korytě s příčně skloněným drsným dnem. Předložený numerický model je založen na autory vyvinutém 3D modelu saltačního pohybu kulovité částice, který počítá s translačním i rotačním pohybem částice. Pro výpočet trajektorie částice a její závislosti na příčném sklonu dna koryta, průměru částice a smykové rychlosti nosné kapaliny byla použita stochastická metoda a koncept kontaktní zóny. Vlivem příčného sklonu dna koryta dochází k odchylce trajektorie částice od směru proudu. Trajektorie částic začínajících svůj pohyb v jednom bodě byly vypočteny a bylo ukázáno, že trajektorie jsou náhodného charakteru a tvoří společně svazek trajektorií, jehož osa může být pro nízké a střední hodnoty příčného sklonu dna koryta aproximována přímkou. Vlivem příčného sklonu dna koryta může dojít k roztřídění částic podle velikosti. Bylo spočteno několik příkladů třídění, definováno kriterium třídění a určeny oblasti třídění podle velikosti částic a sklonu dna koryta.
The paper deals with an experimental investigation of impacts of non-rotating spherical bodies on a flat, solid surface in water. The aim of the investigation was, using the PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry), method to analyze the velocity fields around the falling sphere which falls in an oblique direction. The experiments showed that the wake that forms behind the sphere is asymmetrical and that after the impact it continues its morion to the bottom, only along one side of the sphere, though. This non-symmetrical velocity field results in additional forces which push the sphere to the opposite direction than is the direction of the sphere motion just after the impact. and Obsahuje seznam literatury
