Cieľ: Cieľom štúdie bolo identifikovať úroveň emočnej inteligencie (EI) u sestier a zistiť rozdiely v úrovni EI vzhľadom na vek, dĺžku praxe a vzdelanie sestier. Metodika: Výskumný súbor tvorili sestry (n = 280) poskytujúce starostlivosť pacientom štyroch nemocníc Trnavského kraja. Priemerný vek sestier bol 39,64 (SD = 9,44), dĺžka ich profesijnej praxe bola 18,7 (SD = 10,64). Na meranie úrovne EI boli použité dotazníky, ktoré reprezentujú súčasné prístupy chápania EI. Dotazník SITEMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding), zisťuje úroveň EI ako schopnosti, výsledkom je celkové skóre EI, ktoré je dané súčtom správnych odpovedí. Dotazník SEIS (Schutte EI Scale) zisťuje úroveň EI sestier ako črty. Sestry vyjadrovali mieru súhlasu resp. nesúhlasu prostredníctvom 5bodovej Likertovej škály. Pri spracovaní dát boli využité metódy deskriptívnej štatistiky a induktívnej štatistiky. Údaje boli spracované v štatistickom softvéri SPSS 15.0. Výsledky: Zistili sme štatisticky významný rozdiel (p < 0,05) v úrovni EI sestier vzhľadom k ich veku. Pri ostatných sociodemografických znakoch (dĺžka profesijnej praxe, vzdelanie) nebol zaznamenaný štatisticky významný rozdiel (p > 0,05). Sestry s Mgr. stupňom vzdelania dosiahli najlepší výsledok v priemernom poradí mier EI v oboch metodikách. Záver: Zistené výsledky umožňujú upriamiť pozornosť na rozvoj EI u sestier prostredníctvom možností vzdelávacích inštitúcií. Môžeme podporovať zmeny, ktoré budú prispievať ku zvýšenej kvalite poskytovanej ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti. Využívanie EI je nutnou a zároveň modernou požiadavkou ošetrovateľstva., Aim: The aim of this study was to identify the level of emotional intelligence (EI) of nurses and to identify differences in the level of EI in relation to their age, length of work experience and education. Methods: The sample consisted of nurses (n = 280) providing care to patients in four hospitals in the Trnava Region. The mean age of the nurses was 39.64 years (SD = 9.44) and the length of their work experience was 18.7 years (SD = 10.64). The level of EI was measured using questionnaires representing current approaches to understanding of EI. Emotional intelligence as an ability was determined by the Situational Test of Emotional Understanding (SIT-EMO) questionnaire, yielding the overall emotional intelligence score given by the sum of the correct answers. EI as a feature, on the other hand, was assessed by the Schutte EI Scale (SEIS) in which the nurses expressed the extent to which they agree or disagree with each statement on a five-point Likert scale. To analyze the data, methods of descriptive statistics and inductive statistics were used. The data were processed using the SPSS 15.0 statistical software. Results: A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was found between the level of nurses’ EI level and their age. In terms of other social demographic data (length of work experience, education), a statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) was not found, although the nurses with a master’s degree ranked highest as for their mean level of EI, using both methods. Conclusion: The results enable to focus attention on the development of nurses’ EI through educational institutions. Changes may be encouraged that will contribute to an increase in the quality of nursing care provided. ABSTRAKT Cieľ: Zámerom štúdie bolo identifikovať štatisticky významné rozdiely v úrovni emočnej inteligencii (EI) u študentov ošetrovateľstva vzhľadom k demografi ckým údajom (vek, dĺžka štúdia) a zároveň zistiť či úroveň EI študentov ošetrovateľstva ovplyvňuje ich záujem o problematiku geriatrického ošetrovateľstva. Metódy: Výskumu sa zúčastnilo 86 univerzitných študentov denného bakalárskeho štúdia odboru ošetrovateľstvo. Na meranie úrovne EI boli využité dotazníky reprezentujúce rôzne chápania EI. Prostredníctvom SIT-EMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding) bola zisťovaná EI ako schopnosť. EI ako črta bola zisťovaná dotazníkom SEIS(Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale). Dotazníkom vlastnej konštrukcie ESE-GP (Emotional self-effi cacygeriatric patient) bola zisťovaná úroveň EI študentov v procese starostlivosti o geriatrických pacientov. Výsledky: Nezistili sme štatisticky významné rozdiely v úrovni EI študentov z hľadiska demografi ckých údajov (vek a ročník štúdia). Medzi úrovňou EI (SEIS)a perspektívnym záujmom študentov venovať sa geriatrickému ošetrovateľstvu bola zistená štatisticky významná súvislosť (p < 0,05). Závery: Zistené výsledky môžu uplatniť najmä inštitúcie poskytujúce ošetrovateľské vzdelávanie, ktorým odporúčame zamerať pozornosť na rozvoj EI v procese vzdelávania študentov ošetrovateľstva., Aim: The aim of the study was to identify statistically significant differences in levels of emotional intelligence (EI) of nursing students in relation with demographic data (age and year of study) and also determine whether the EI level of nursing students affects their interest in the issue of geriatric nursing. Methods: The sample consisted of 86 full-time undergraduate university students of nursing. To measure the level of EI, questionnaires representing diff erent understanding of EI were used. EI as an ability was determined by the SIT-EMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding). EI as a trait was evaluated by the questionnaire SEIS (Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale). The questionnaire of own construction ESE-GP (Emotional self-effi cacygeriatric patient) assessed the level of EI of students in the process of caring for geriatric patients. Results: There were no statistically signifi cant diff erences in the students’ level of EI in terms of demographic data (age and year of study). A statistically signifi cant association (p < 0.05) was found between the students’ level of EI (SEIS) and their promising interest to pursue geriatric nursing. Motivation Until recently it was considered that 65 years is cutoff for defining patients as elderly, but newer reports indicate that this age limit shift to 70 years of age. Elderly patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer, associated comorbidities and poor performance status represent a specific population and a challenge for use of chemotherapy. Primary aim was to evaluate the impact of mono therapy with oral etoposide on overall survival in elderly patients (≥ 70 years of age) with advanced non small cell lung cancer and poor performance status (PS) ≥ 2 (clinical stage IIIb and IV ), and as well to evaluate tolerability of this therapy. Secondary aim was to evaluate response rate. Methods Retrospectively, medical records of 79 female and male patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer and poor performance status treated with oral etoposide (2x25 mg 20 days/10 days pause) in period from 2007 till 2010 were checked for relevant data. Data regarding demographics, performance status, overall survival, response rates and drug toxicity were collected. For statistical analysis we used Pearson chi-square test, T-test, Kaplan-Meier product limited method and Cox regression. Results Median overall survival (OS) was 31 weeks, in patients with PS 2 overall survival was 34 weeks, and in group with PS 3 was only 24 weeks. Partial response was registered in 20.2% of patients, stable disease in 41.85 % and disease progression in 38% of patients. Treatment was well tolerated, febrile neutropenia and toxic deaths were not registered. Toxic effects didn't have statistically significant influence on OS. Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit důležitost spirituálních potřeb pacientů v paliativní péči a jejich saturaci na onkologické klinice FN Ostrava. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 93 pacientů, u nichž byla ukončena onkologická léčba s kurativním záměrem a vzhledem k negativní prognóze nemoci jim byla poskytována paliativní péče na onkologické klinice FN Ostrava. Do souboru byli zařazeni pacienti s Karnofského skóre KI ≤ 60 %. Ke sběru dat byly použity otázky z domény spirituální potřeby dotazníku pro měření potřeb PNAP (Patient Needs Assessment in Palliative care) a dotazník EORTC QoLC-30. Pro hodnocení rozdílu v důležitosti a saturaci potřeb dle jednotlivých faktorů byl použit párový t-test a t-test pro dva výběry. Výsledky: V oblasti spirituálních potřeb považovali respondenti nejčastěji za důležité „nenáboženské“ duchovní potřeby a to „být naplněn klidem“ (95 %), „mít smysl života“ (92 %) a „mít pozitivní náhled na život a naději“ (91 %). Pacienti byli nejčastěji nespokojeni s nemožností účasti na bohoslužbě (44 %, 56 % u druhého měření). Spirituální potřeby považovali signifikantně častěji za důležité pacienti starší 65 let a pacienti bez náboženského vyznání (p<0,05). V hodnocení saturace duchovních potřeb nebyl zjištěn statisticky významný rozdíl. Závěr: Identifikace pro pacienta důležitých spirituálních potřeb by se měla stát součástí ošetřovatelské péče., Aim: The aim of the research was to find the importance of the patient´s spiritual needs in the palliative care and their saturation at the Clinic of Oncology at University hospital Ostrava. Methods: The research file consisted of 93 patients whose oncological treatment with curative intention was finished and according to the negative prognosis of illness the palliative care was given to these patients at the Clinic of oncology at University hospital Ostrava. Patients registered in this file were registered the Karnofsky score KI ≤ 60 %. The questions from domain of spiritual needs assessment for measurement of needs PNAP - Patient Needs Assessment in Palliative care were used for the data collection. To evaluate the differences in the importance and saturation according to the needs of individual factors used paired t-test and t-test for two samples. Results: In relation to spiritual needs the respondents found as most important the „no-religion“ spiritual needs and the fact „to be peaceful“ (95%), „to have the meaning of life“ (92%) and to have the positive view of life and hope (91%) most often. The patients were dissatisfied with impossibility of their presence at church service (44%, 56% in case of second measurement) most often. The patients older than 65 years and the non-religious patients (p<0.05) found the spiritual needs as important more often. Statistically the significant difference was not known in the evaluation of the spiritual needs saturation. Cíl: Cílem studie bylo zjistit spokojenost pacientů s poskytovanou ošetřovatelskou péčí na vybraných odděleních dvou nemocnic Moravskoslezského kraje. Porovnat spokojenost pacientů podle zdravotnického zařízení a oddělení, kde byli hospitalizováni. Zjistit, zda existuje souvislost mezi demografi ckými a klinickými charakteristikami pacientů a jejich spokojeností s ošetřovatelskou péčí. Metodika: Zkoumaný soubor deskriptivní korelační studie tvořilo 507 pacientů hospitalizovaných v období od února do března 2011 na 13 lůžkových odděleních v nemocnicích Karviná-Ráj a Orlová. Ke sběru dat byl použit standardizovaný dotazník Patient Satisfaction Scale (PSS), který měří spokojenost pacientů v jedenácti položkách třech oblastí – technické/racionální aspekty, podávání informací a oblast interakce a podpory. Výsledky: Pacienti byli nejvíce spokojeni s technickými aspekty ošetřovatelské péče a nejméně s poskytováním informací. Demografi cké charakteristiky pacientů na jejich spokojenost zásadní vliv neměly. Pouze v jedné nemocnici (NsP Karviná) byli muži ve všech faktorech spokojenější než ženy a naopak nejmenší spokojenost udávali pacienti, kteří popisovali svůj zdravotní stav jako uspokojivý. V NsP Orlová udávali vyšší spokojenost s podporou a interakcí pacienti hospitalizovaní delší dobu. Závěr: Výsledky studie neprokázaly statisticky významné rozdíly v hodnocení spokojenosti pacientů mezi nemocnicemi ani mezi sledovanými odděleními., Aims: The aim of this study was to determine patient satisfaction with nursing care provided in selected wards of two hospitals of Moravian-Silesian region, to determine whether there is a connection between demographic and clinical characteristics of patients and their satisfaction and to compare patient satisfaction according to health facility and department, where they were hospitalized. Methods: The sample of descriptive correlation study consisted of 507 patients hospitalized in the period from February to March 2011 on 13 inpatient wards in hospitals Karvina-Raj and Orlova. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire Patient Satisfaction Scale (PSS), which measures patient satisfaction in eleven items of three areas – technical/rational aspects, provision of information and area of interaction and support. Results: Patients were most satisfi ed with the technical aspects of nursing care and least with provision of information. Demographic characteristics of the patients did not have a major impact on their satisfaction. Only in one hospital (NsP Karvina) were men in all factors happier than women and on the contrary the smallest satisfaction reported patients who described their health status as satisfactory. In NsP Orlova they reported higher satisfaction with the support and interaction patients hospitalized longer period of time. Kvalita výživy ve stáří ovlivňuje zásadním způsobem celkový stav organizmu a významné deficity mohou přispívat k multimorbiditě starších nemocných. Včasnou detekcí malnutrice ve stáří se můžeme vyhnout zhoršení funkční výkonnosti, závažným zdravotním komplikacím, zvýšené nemocnosti, úmrtnosti a zhoršení kvality života. Vyšší věk je spojen s častějším výskytem poruch výživy, především s malnutricí. Prevalence malnutrice u hospitalizovaných geriatrických pacientů se nachází v rozmezí mezi 30–60 % a u dlouhodobě institucionalizovaných dosahuje 52–85 %. Nepřesné posuzování a sledování nutričního stavu seniorů ve zdravotnických zařízeních zdravotnickým personálem může mít zásadní vliv na vznik malnutrice během hospitalizace. Cílem příspěvku je zhodnotit stav výživy seniorů na gerontopsychiatrickém oddělení a posoudit vliv faktorů jako deprese, úroveň kognitivního stavu a soběstačnosti na vznik malnutrice., The quality of nutrition in old age affects significantly the overall condition of the body, and significant deficits may contribute to multimorbidity in elderly patients. Early detection of malnutrition in old age can avoid worsening functional performance, serious medical complications, increased morbidity, mortality and impaired quality of life. Increasing age is associated with a greater incidence of nutritional disorders, especially with malnutrition. The prevalence of undernutrition in hospitalized geriatric patients is in the range between 30 to 60% and in the long-term institutionalized it reaches 52–85%. Inaccurate assessment and monitoring of nutritional status of older people in healthcare facilities healthcare professionals can have a significant influence on the occurrence of malnutrition during hospitalization. Background: There are several environmental factors which influence the preschoolers psychomotor development and the most considerable ones are socioeconomic status and day cares learning&care environment. Aim of this study is to assess how the change of socioeconomic gradient and the quality of care environment influence the average and the differences in psychometric domains of ASQ3 in preschoolers. Method: We assessed the psychometric parameters of all preschoolers enrolled in some of day cares in Vlora city, Albania using the ASQ3. We also assessed the quality of care environment according to ECERSR and the socioeconomic status upon the fathers occupation. Results: In the end of this research we found that not only a considerable percentage of preschoolers included in this study have psychomotor delays, but also that these delays and the average of psychomotor development have a significant relationship with the environment factors, as socioeconomic status and care environment. Conclusions: Children development depends more on instructing capacities of kindergartens staff than mothers. We have analyzed human resources in healthcare of Kazakhstan over 19852011, and determined general trends and regularities. By the level of provision with physicians, Kazakhstan ranks as one of the leaders in the world, at the same time there have been a deficit of physicians in the Republic over the last 20 years, particularly in rural areas. As per its regions, there is an irregularity in the physicians provision rate: the most part of specialists is concentrated in cities Almaty and Astana, there is a deficit of physicians in the Almaty, Коstanai, NorthKazakhstan and Jambyl Oblasts. Autori v retrospektívnej štúdii analyzovali 28 prenatálne diagnostikovaných prípadov CDH u plodov. Cieľom práce bola analýza 28 prenatálne diagnostikovaných prípadov CDH u plodov za uvedené obdobie k počtu terminácií a pôrodov. Poukazujú na vplyv lokalizácie, veľkosti defektu, stanovenia týždňa diagnózy, stupňa hypoplázie pľúcneho tkaniva, výsledku LHR (lung-to-head ratio) u plodov s CDH na prognózu a výsledné prežívanie takto postihnutých novorodencov, pričom LHR je pomer násobku dĺžky a šírky hypoplastických pľúc k obvodu hlavičky plodu. Autori sa pokúsili stanoviť zásady manažmentu gravidity a pôrodu u plodov s CDH, ktorý vychádza z analýzy nášho klinického materiálu z rokov 2004–2013. Najhoršiu prognózu mali plody, u ktorých bola diagnóza stanovená pred 25. týždňom gravidity, plody s herniáciou laloka pečene do dutiny hrudnej, plody s ťažkou hypopláziou pľúcneho parenchýmu, plody s veľkým diafragmatickým defektom a nízkym indexom LHR. Prognóza a prežívanie novorodencov v našom prípade priamoúmerne závisela od stupňa hypoplázie pľúc, stupňa perzistujúcej pľúcnej hypertenzie, závažnosti pridružených vrodených vývojových chýb a úspešnosti neonatálnej intenzívnej starostlivosti v prevencii a liečbe pľúcnej hypertenzie. Prežívanie novorodencov v našom súbore bolo 21,43 %., The authors in a retrospective study analyzed 28 prenatal diagnosed cases of CDH fetuses. The aim of the study was to analyze the number of diagnosed cases of CDH fetuses for the given period compared to the number of births and terminations. They show how the location, defect size, the week of diagnosis, degree of hypoplasia of the pulmonary tissue, the result of the LHR (lung-to-head ratio) in fetuses with CDH influence the prognosis and survival rates of affected newborns. LHR is the ratio between the length and width of the hypoplastic lung to the periphery of the fetal head. They tried to establish the principles of management of pregnancy and the birth of fetuses with CDH, based on our analysis of clinical material collected between 2004 -2013. The worst prognosis fetuses were in diagnosed before 25th week of gestation, fetuses with liver lobe herniation into the thoracic cavity, fetuses with severe hypoplasia of the pulmonary parenchyma, fetuses with large diaphragmatic defects and low index LHR. The prognosis and survival of newborns in our study depended directly on the degree of pulmonary hypoplasia, the degree of persistent pulmonary hypertension, severity of associated birth defects and the success of neonatal intensive care in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Cieľ: Zámerom štúdie bolo zistiť ako seniori žijúci v domácom prostredí a seniori žijúci v sociálnom zariadení vnímajú kvalitu svojho života z pohľadu nezávislosti v aktivitách denného života. Metódy: Zvolili sme medzinárodný dotazník pre meranie kvality života WHOQOL-BREF a Barthelovej test ADL. Seniori z domáceho prostredia vypĺňali dotazník doručený prostredníctvom sestier ADOS a seniori v sociálnom zariadení vyplnili dotazník doručený prostredníctvom sestier pracujúcich v sociálnom zariadení. Vzorku tvorilo 140 seniorov. Výsledky: Štatistickou analýzou sa nepotvrdil štatisticky významný vzťah medzi seniormi z domáceho prostredia a seniormi zo sociálneho zariadenia v subjektívnom vnímaní kvality života, fyzickým stavom v závislosti na sebestačnosti v aktivitách denného života. Závery: Zistené výsledky môžu uplatniť zdravotnícki pracovníci v geriatrickom ošetrovateľstve., Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the attitude of the elderly receiving health care at home and those living in care homes towards their quality of life in activities of daily living. Methods: In our study we used the internationally-known WHOQOL-BREF Questionnaire and the Barthel index of activities of daily living (ADL). The elderly living at home received the questionnaire from visiting nurses, residents of care homes from the nurses working in the care home. The study sample consisted of 140 elderly people. Results: Statistical analysis did not confirm statistically significant difference in the attitude of the elderly living at home and those living in care homes towards their quality of life in daily activities.
