U pacienta s diabetes mellitus 1. typu je výrazný, opakující se nesoulad mezi vyšší glykémii v plazmě nalačno a glykovaným hemoglobinem. Příčinou snížených hodnot glykovaného hemoglobinu je zkrácená životnost erytrocytů způsobená hemolýzou po podání léku dapsonu.
