Colonic polyps and polyposis are studied in 183 patients. It has been found, that sensitivity of rectoscopy is 66.7%, irrigoscopy 61.1%, virtual colonoscopy computeraided tomography of colon (VCCATC) 79.1%. Endoscopic polypectomy was the main treatment method used in patents with colonic polyps and polyposis (18.6%). Cíl. Retrospektivně zhodnotit efekt a dlouhodobou průchodnost transjugulární intrahepatální portosystémové spojky (TIPS) u nemocných s trombózou jaterních žil. Metoda. V letech 1992-2011 jsme vytvořili TIPS celkem u 38 pacientů s trombózou jaterních žil nekontrolovatelnou medikamentózní léčbou. Léčeno bylo devět mužů a 29 žen ve věku 13-76 let (medián 33 let), v šesti případech se jednalo o děti. Predisponující trombofilní stav byl prokázán u 84,2 % osob. Klinická forma Buddova-Chiariho syndromu byla v šesti případech akutní, v 18 případech subakutní a ve 14 případech chronická. Indikací k výkonu byl u 31 nemocných ascites, u pěti pacientů jaterní selhání a u dvou krvácení do zažívacího traktu. Zákroky byly prováděny standardní technikou v analgosedaci nebo v celkové anestezii. U 17 pacientů jsme do kanálu TIPS implantovali nepotažený stent nebo kombinaci potaženého a nepotaženého stentu, u 21 nemocných jsme zkrat vyztužili pouze pro TIPS dedikovaným potaženým stentem (stentgraftem). Sledování průchodnosti zkratu po výkonu bylo založeno na pravidelných ultrasonografických, klinických a laboratorních kontrolách, při prokázané poruše průchodnosti byla provedena reintervence. Výsledky. Celková doba sledování souboru byla 8 dní - 207 měsíců (medián 52 měsíců). Technického úspěchu jsme dosáhli u 100% nemocných, hemodynamická úspěšnost výkonu byla 86,8 %, s poklesem mediánu portosystémového gradientu z 23 mm Hg na 8 mm Hg, klinicky bylo dosaženo ústupu obtíží u 89,5% nemocných. Významné komplikace jsme zaznamenali celkem u sedmi osob, žádný pacient nezemřel v přímé souvislosti se zákrokem. V průběhu sledování zemřelo celkem jedenáct nemocných (29 %), přežití souboru za 1 rok a za 5 let od TIPS bylo 85,3 % a 65,4 %. Během doby sledování jsme provedli celkem 50 reintervencí pro dysfunkci spojky, průměrný počet reintervencí přepočtený na jednoho nemocného za dobu 5 let byl 1,65 výkonu u pacientů se zkratem vytvořeným stentem a 0,67 výkonu u nemocných, u kterých byl primárně použit stentgraft. Ve skupině se zavedeným nekrytým stentem byla primární průchodnost 52,9% za 1 rok a 20 % za 5 let od výkonu, u skupiny s implantovaným potaženým stentem byla jednoletá primární průchodnost 80 % a pětiletá primární průchodnost 33,3%. V průběhu sledování jsme zároveň u osmi pacientů provedli angioplastiku dolní duté žíly pro její symptomatickou stenózu, u šesti z těchto nemocných byl do dolní duté žíly zaveden stent. Závěr. Vytvoření TIPS je velmi efektivní metodou léčby pacientů s trombózou jaterních žil. Použití pro TIPS dedikovaných potažených stentů vede knižšímu počtu dysfunkcí zkratu s nižším počtem reintervencí nezbytných k obnově průchodnosti, nutností je však současná důsledná antikoagulační léčba a léčba základního hematologického onemocnění., Aim. To retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and long-term patency of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in patients with hepatic vein thrombosis. Method. In years 1992-2011, totally 38 patients with hepatic vein thrombosis resistant to medical therapy underwent TIPS creation in our department. We treated 9 males and 29 females, age 13-76 years (median 33 years), 6 patients were children. The underlying thrombophilic state was confirmed in 84.2% of treated patients. The Budd-Chiari syndrome was acute in 6, subacute in 18 and chronic in 14 cases. Ascites was indication for TIPS in 31 patients, liver failure in 5 and gastrointestinal bleeding in 2 persons. All the procedures were performed in anal-gosedation or under general anestesia using standard technique. In 17 patients, we implanted non-covered stent or combination of non-covered and covered stents during TIPS creation, in the other 21 patients only the TIPS dedicated covered stents had been used. TIPS patency during follow-up after the procedure was based on regular ultra-sonographic, clinical and laboratory examinations. In case of shunt dysfunction, a rein-tervention was performed. Results. The total follow-up period was 8 days - 207 months (median 52 months). The technical success rate was 100%, hemo-dynamical success rate 86.8% with median portosystemic gradient decrease from 23 mm Hg to 8 mm Hg, and clinically we were succesfull in 89.5% of patients. In 7 patients, severe complications occurred during shunt creation, but none of the patients died in direct connection with the procedure. Totally 11 patients (29%) died during follow-up period, the 1-year and 5-years survival rates were 85.3% and 65.4%, respectively. Due to TIPS dysfunction, totally 50 reinterventions were needed, the average 5-year reintervention rate per patient was 1.65 procedures in the bare stent group and 0.67 porcedures in the covered stent group. In the non-covered stent group, we achieved primary patency rates 52.9% 1 year and 20% 5 years after TIPS creation, in the covered stent group the 1-year primary patency rate was 80% and 5-year primary patency rate 33.3%. Angioplasty of symptomatic stenosis of the inferior vena cava was performed in 8 patients during follow-up, in 6 of these patients also stent implantation was necessary. Conclusion. TIPS creation is a very effective treatment of patients with hepatic vein thrombosis. Cieľ: Cieľom štúdie bolo preskúmať, ako sestry vnímajú svoju úroveň dôstojného prístupu k pacientom v domovoch sociálnych služieb (DSS) a identifikovať, či existujú významné vzťahy medzi úrovňou dôstojného prístupu k pacientom v DSS a demografickými znakmi (vek sestier, dĺžka praxe, vzdelanie a pod.). Metodika: Výskumný súbor tvorilo 106 sestier pracujúcich v domovoch sociálnych služieb v zriaďovateľskej pôsobnosti Trnavského samosprávneho kraja. Výskum prebiehal v období december 2011 až február 2012. Na zistenie úrovne dôstojného prístupu sme využili autorizovaný dotazník: Posudzovanie etických problémov – dôstojný prístup k pacientovi. Tvorí ho 5 subškál (informovanosť pacientov; autonómia; dodržiavanie dôvernosti a ochrany informácií; princíp spravodlivosti; intimita). Štatistická analýza bola realizovaná softvérom SPSS, verzia 15.0. Výsledky: Svoju úroveň dôstojného prístupu k pacientom v domovoch sociálnych služieb hodnotili sestry ako primeranú. Medzi vnímanou úrovňou dôstojného prístupu sestier a demografickými údajmi boli nízke korelácie. Signifikantne vyššiu úroveň dôstojného prístupu sme zistili u sestier s vyšším vzdelaním (Bc.). Najnižšiu úroveň dôstojného prístupu k pacientom v domovoch sociálnych služieb sme zaznamenali v subškále zameranej na autonómiu pacienta. Záver: Na základe poznania týchto výsledkov môžeme podporovať zmeny, ktoré budú prispievať k zvýšenej kvalite poskytovanej ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti v domovoch sociálnych služieb., Aim: The aim of the study was to examine nurses’ perception of their own level of dignified approach to patients in social care homes and to identify potential statistically significant relationships between the level of dignified approach to patients in social care homes and demographic data (nurses’ age, duration of clinical experience, education etc.). Methods: The sample consisted of 106 nurses working in social care homes run by the Trnava Region. An authorized questionnaire called Assessment of Ethical Issues – Dignified Approach to a Patient was used to determine the level of dignified approach. The questionnaire consisted of five subscales (patient awareness; autonomy; respecting confidentiality; principle of justice; intimacy). Statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS version 15.0 software. Results: The level of dignified approach to patients in social care homes was self-assessed by nurses as adequate. There was a low correlation between the perceived level of dignified approach to patients and demographic data. Nurses with higher education (bachelor’s degree) demonstrated significantly higher levels of dignified approach. The lowest level of dignified approach was found in the subscale focused on patient autonomy. In order to study cardiac pathology in different subtypes of ischemic stroke we examined 165 stroke patients. The 1st group included 90 (54.5%) patients with hemodynamic stroke, the 2nd one - 75 (45.5%) patients with cardioembolic stroke. Control group consisted of 45 individuals without cerebrovascular diseases. Cardiac pathologies with the prevalence of various types of ischemic heart disease were observed in all groups. The parameters of left ventricular stroke volume and ejection fraction were lower in patients with hemodynamic stroke than in other groups, but were within normal limits. Potential sources of cardiogenic embolism were found in all groups: in the 1st group at 74.4%, in the 2nd one at 100%. Cieľ: Cieľom štúdie bolo identifikovať úroveň emočnej inteligencie (EI) u sestier a zistiť rozdiely v úrovni EI vzhľadom na vek, dĺžku praxe a vzdelanie sestier. Metodika: Výskumný súbor tvorili sestry (n = 280) poskytujúce starostlivosť pacientom štyroch nemocníc Trnavského kraja. Priemerný vek sestier bol 39,64 (SD = 9,44), dĺžka ich profesijnej praxe bola 18,7 (SD = 10,64). Na meranie úrovne EI boli použité dotazníky, ktoré reprezentujú súčasné prístupy chápania EI. Dotazník SITEMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding), zisťuje úroveň EI ako schopnosti, výsledkom je celkové skóre EI, ktoré je dané súčtom správnych odpovedí. Dotazník SEIS (Schutte EI Scale) zisťuje úroveň EI sestier ako črty. Sestry vyjadrovali mieru súhlasu resp. nesúhlasu prostredníctvom 5bodovej Likertovej škály. Pri spracovaní dát boli využité metódy deskriptívnej štatistiky a induktívnej štatistiky. Údaje boli spracované v štatistickom softvéri SPSS 15.0. Výsledky: Zistili sme štatisticky významný rozdiel (p < 0,05) v úrovni EI sestier vzhľadom k ich veku. Pri ostatných sociodemografických znakoch (dĺžka profesijnej praxe, vzdelanie) nebol zaznamenaný štatisticky významný rozdiel (p > 0,05). Sestry s Mgr. stupňom vzdelania dosiahli najlepší výsledok v priemernom poradí mier EI v oboch metodikách. Záver: Zistené výsledky umožňujú upriamiť pozornosť na rozvoj EI u sestier prostredníctvom možností vzdelávacích inštitúcií. Môžeme podporovať zmeny, ktoré budú prispievať ku zvýšenej kvalite poskytovanej ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti. Využívanie EI je nutnou a zároveň modernou požiadavkou ošetrovateľstva., Aim: The aim of this study was to identify the level of emotional intelligence (EI) of nurses and to identify differences in the level of EI in relation to their age, length of work experience and education. Methods: The sample consisted of nurses (n = 280) providing care to patients in four hospitals in the Trnava Region. The mean age of the nurses was 39.64 years (SD = 9.44) and the length of their work experience was 18.7 years (SD = 10.64). The level of EI was measured using questionnaires representing current approaches to understanding of EI. Emotional intelligence as an ability was determined by the Situational Test of Emotional Understanding (SIT-EMO) questionnaire, yielding the overall emotional intelligence score given by the sum of the correct answers. EI as a feature, on the other hand, was assessed by the Schutte EI Scale (SEIS) in which the nurses expressed the extent to which they agree or disagree with each statement on a five-point Likert scale. To analyze the data, methods of descriptive statistics and inductive statistics were used. The data were processed using the SPSS 15.0 statistical software. Results: A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was found between the level of nurses’ EI level and their age. In terms of other social demographic data (length of work experience, education), a statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) was not found, although the nurses with a master’s degree ranked highest as for their mean level of EI, using both methods. Conclusion: The results enable to focus attention on the development of nurses’ EI through educational institutions. Changes may be encouraged that will contribute to an increase in the quality of nursing care provided. Few studies concerning the occurrence of cow’s milk allergy with the use of double-blind, placebo controlled food challenge test in adolescents and adult patients suffering from atopic dermatitis exist. Aim: To evaluate the occurrence of cow’s milk allergy in adolescents and adults suffering from atopic dermatitis. Method: Altogether 179 persons suffering from atopic dermatitis were included in the study: 51 men and 128 women entered the study with the average age of 26.2 (s.d. 9.5 years). Complete dermatological and allergological examinations were performed. Results: The positive results in specificIgE and in skin prick tests were recorded in 12% of patients. According to the open exposure tests and double-blind, placebo controlled food challenge tests these patients are only sensitized to cow’s milk without clinical symptoms of allergy. Double-blind, placebo controlled food challenge test confirmed food allergy to cow milk only in one patient (worsening of atopic dermatitis), the oral allergy syndrome was observed in another one patient, occurrence of this allergy was altogether 1.1%. Cíl: Hlavním cílem výzkumného šetření bylo zjistit, které faktory ovlivňují pouţívání ošetřovatelských diagnóz v klinické praxi. Dalším cílem bylo zjistit rozdíly v hodnocení faktorů ovlivňujících pouţívání ošetřovatelských diagnóz v praxi podle věku, vzdělání a typu pracoviště. Metodika: Pro získání dat byl sestaven nestandardizovaný dotazník zaměřený na zjištění faktorů ovlivňujících pouţívání ošetřovatelských diagnóz. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 253 registrovaných všeobecných sester z 9 zdravotnických zařízení v České republice. Sestry hodnotili na Likertově škále od 1 do 5, jak jednotlivé faktory ovlivňují pouţívání ošetřovatelské diagnostiky v praxi. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo od června 2011 do listopadu 2011. Výsledky: Podle našeho výzkumného souboru nejvíce ovlivňují pouţívání ošetřovatelských diagnóz v praxi následující faktory: počet pacientů na 1 sestru, administrativní zátěţ, syndrom vyhoření, nedostatek času, rozdíly v teorii a praxi a nedostatek personálu. Statisticky významné rozdíly v hodnocení faktorů podle věku byly zjištěny v hodnocení 2 faktorů: rozdíly v teorii a praxi, nedostatek motivace. Podle dosaţeného vzdělání byly statisticky významné rozdíly zjištěny v hodnocení 4 faktorů: nejednotnost ošetřovatelských diagnóz, terminologie diagnóz, rozdíly v teorii a praxi, rutinní práce. V závislosti na typu pracoviště byly statisticky významné rozdíly nalezeny v hodnocení 5 faktorů: terminologie diagnóz, rozdíly v teorii a praxi, nedostatek praktických zkušeností s ošetřovatelskou diagnostikou, rutinní práce, syndrom vyhoření. Závěr: Rozeznání faktorů ovlivňujících pouţívání ošetřovatelských diagnóz v praxi a zlepšení institucionální podpory můţe ulehčit implementaci ošetřovatelské diagnostiky v klinické praxi, Aim: The main aim of the study was to identify which factors influenced the use of nursing diagnoses in clinical practice. Another aim was to ascertain whether age, education and type of workplace affected the relative importance accorded to these factors. Methods: A non-standardized questionnaire on factors influencing the use of nursing diagnoses was administered to a sample consisting of 243 registered general nurses from 9 healthcare facilities in the Czech Republic. Using Likert´s 5-point scale, the nurses rated the importance of several factors in influencing their use of nursing diagnoses in practice. The research was conducted between June 2011 and November 2011. Results: Based on our sample, there are several factors which influence the use of nursing diagnoses in practice. Some of them are: number of patients per nurse, administrative strain, burnout syndrome, lack of time, discrepancies between theory and practice, lack of staff. Statistically significant age-related differences in rating factors were found for the following: discrepancies between theory and practice, lack of motivation. Statistically significant differences in ratings relative to education were found for four factors: disunity of nursing diagnoses, diagnostic terminology, discrepancies between theory and practice, workplace routine. Based on type of workplace, statistically significant differences in ratings were found for five factors: diagnostic terminology, discrepancies between theory and practice, lack of practical experience in nursing diagnostics, workplace routine, burnout syndrome. Účel studie: Hlavním cílem studie bylo odhadnout dosažení patologické kompletní odpovědi nemocných trpících lokálně pokročilým adenokarcinomem rekta po předoperační (neoadjuvantní) chemoradioterapii (CHRT) s využitím individuálních farmakokinetických parametrů 5-fluorouracilu (5-FU). Sekundárním cílem bylo hodnocení bezpečnosti a snášenlivosti léčby. Tato otevřená prospektivní studie podporovaná grantem IGA NS 9693–04/2008 zahrnula 34 dospělých s lokálně pokročilým karcinomem konečníku ozařovaných do celkové dávky 50,4 Gy ve 28 frakcích po 1,8 Gy 10–15 MV paprsky v režimu 5 + 2 (5 dní radioterapie, 2 dny volno) s kontinuálně podávaným 5-FU v i. v. infuzi 200–1000 mg/m2 po dobu 4–5 týdnů kontinuálně 7denní infuzí. Chirurgická resekce následovala 4–6 týdnů po ukončení CHRT a po klinickém restagingu. Hodnocena byla klinická a patologická odpověď na chemoradioterapii pomocí zobrazovacího (MR) a histopatologického vyšetření, vyjádřená v % jako reziduální choroba. Výsledky a závěr: Výsledek dokládá vztah mezi velikostí kumulativní dávky 5-FU a kumulativní AUC 5-FU (r = 0,61, p < 0,001). Podobný vztah byl prokázán mezi kumulativní AUC 5-FU a metabolickým poměrem (poměr dosažených plazmatických koncentrací neaktivního metabolitu dihydrofluorouracilu (5-FUH2) ku koncentracím 5-FU, r = -0,80, p < 0,0001). Kumulativní AUC korelovala se stupněm odpovědi na léčbu (r = – 0,53, p < 0,005) a určovala také stupeň toxicity léčby. Pokud bychom chtěli dosáhnout kompletní patologickou odpověď, pak by denní dávka 5-FU měla být u středně rychlého metabolizéra >350 mg/m2 a kumulativní AUC1–39 dní > 50 mg/L*h. U žádného z nemocných nebyla nalezena mutace v genu pro dihydropyrimidindehydrogenázu (DPD) a multidrug resistance-1 protein (MDR-1), přesto byla nalezena vysoká interindividuální variabilita v dosažených plazmatických koncentracích 5-FU, a to i s ohledem na cirkadiální rytmus kinetiky léčiva., Background and Purpose: The main goal of the present study was to estimate the early patients´response following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CHRT) based on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with curative aim in relation to plasma concentrations and pharmacokinetic parameters of 5-FU. Secondary objectives included evaluation of the safety and tolerability of the regimen. Patients and Methods: This open prospective study enrolles 34 adult patients with locally advanced rectal cancer, who received 5-FU 200 -1000 mg/m2 administered as a continuous i. v. infusion over 4–5 week and radiotherapy delivered with 10–15 MV photon beams at 1.8 Gy/fraction up o 50.4 Gy in 28 daily fractions for 5 days a week. Surgical resection with curative aim followed 4–6 weeks after the completion of CHRT and clinical restaging. Pathologic response evaluation and the rate of tumor regression was evaluated using tumor downstaging by MR, histopathological staging, and expressed as residual disease (%). Results and Conclusion: The outcome evidenced the correlation between the cumulative 5-FU dose and cumulative AUC of 5-FU (r = 0.61; p < 0.001). The similar relationship was demonstrated between the cumulative AUC and metabolic ratio (the plasma concentration od inactive metabolite dihydrofluotouracile 5-FUH2 to 5-FU; r = -0.80; p < 0.0001). The cumulative AUC was correlated with tumor regression rate (r = -0.53; p < 0.005) and determined toxicity grade. To reach pCR, the daily dose of 5-FU in patient with average metabolic ratio of 5-FUH2/5-FU should be >350 mg/m2 and the cumulative AUC1–39days > 50 mg/L*h. Předmětem této pilotní studie je verifi kace vlivu pozitivních emocí na motorické učení prostřednictvím vizuálního feedbacku formou hry ve virtuálním prostředí u pacientů po iktu. Pilotního měření se zúčastnili 3 pacienti po cévní mozkové příhodě, kteří absolvovali dvoutýdenní terapii formou hry ve virtuálním prostředí. U každého pacienta byla hodnocena před a po terapii posturální stabilita a hrubá motorika paretické horní končetiny pomocí standardizovaného klinického testování (Berg Balance Scale, Action Research Arm Test) i přístrojového vyšetření (dynamická počítačová posturografi e). Z výsledků hodnocení pacientů je zřejmý pozitivní efekt terapie na posturální stabilitu a koordinaci. Hru ve virtuálním prostředí považujeme za vhodný doplněk komplexního fyzioterapeutického přístupu u vybraných pacientů po cévní mozkové příhodě. Vzhledem k výsledkům naší pilotní studie jsou žádoucí další měření zabývající se touto problematikou., This pilot study aims to objectively verify the infl uence of positive emotions on motor learning through visual feedback in the form of games in a virtual environment in individuals aft er a stroke. In this pilot study, we evaluated three stroke patients. They completed a two-week intensive therapy by means of playing virtual games. Postural stability was assessed in every patient before and aft er the therapy, as well as gross motor skills of paretic upper limb by both clinical (Berg Balance Scale, Action Research Arm Test) and instrumental (Dynamic Computed Posturography) testing. The evaluation of patients showed signifi cant positive eff ect of game based therapy on postural stability and coordination. Therefore, playing games in a virtual environment might be considered a suitable addition to the complex of physiotherapeutic approach in patients aft er stroke. Cíl studie: Metabolismus železa musí být velmi pečlivě regulován. Klíčovým systémovým regulátorem je peptidový hormon hepcidin, který způsobuje “uzamčení” železa uvnitř buňky; to pak nemůže být utilizováno. Dialyzovaní pacienti často trpí anémií, která je způsobena mnoha faktory, mj. stavem mikrozánětu a také zřejmě zvýšenou retencí hepcidinu v důsledku snížené glomerulární filtrace. Naším cílem bylo popsat vztahy mezi hepcidinem a dalšími parametry metabolismu železa, zánětu a erytropoezy u těchto pacientů. Typ studie: Observační Název a sídlo pracoviště: Ústav klinické biochemie a hematologie LF UK a FN v Plzni, Alej Svobody 80, 304 60 Plzeň Materiál a metody: Do studie bylo zařazeno 164 chronicky dialyzovaných pacientů (věk 66 ± 13, 25 - 92 let; 101 mužů a 63 žen) a 37 zdravých kontrol (věk 55 ± 20, 21 - 92 let; 16 mužů a 21 žen), u kterých byl stanoven jejich kompletní krevní obraz, parametry metabolismu železa, zánětu a výživy. Výsledky: Koncentrace železa, transferrinu a hemoglobinu byla významně nižší u dialyzovaných pacientů (p<0,0001), naopak ferritin (p<0,0001), solubilní transferrinové receptory(p<0,05), hepcidin (p=0,0003), CRP a IL-6 (p<0,0001) byly u těchto pacientů významně vyšší než u zdravých kontrol. Hepcidin slabě koreloval pozitivně s CRP a ferritinem a negativně s transferrinem u dialyzovaných pacientů, u zdravých kontrol nebyla nalezena žádná korelace hepcidinu s ostatními parametry. Závěr: Zdá se, že vliv zánětu na hladiny hepcidinu není u hemodialyzovaných pacientů zcela zásadní a na jeho koncentraci se podílí i jiné faktory, např. jeho retence., Objective: Peptide hormone hepcidin is a key systemic regulator of the iron metabolism. Hepcidin binds to the iron cell exporter ferroportin so iron is kept in the cells unavailable for erythropoiesis. The synthesis of hepcidin is up-regulated by high iron stores and inflammation. Dialyzed patients have very often impaired iron management – they suffer from anemia, which is caused by many factors including the state of micro inflammation and hepcidin retention due to decreased glomerular filtration rate. Our aim was to describe the relationship of hepcidin and other parameters of iron metabolism, erythropoiesis and inflammation. Design: Observation Settings: Institute of Clinical Biochemistry and Hematology, Charles University Hospital in Pilsen, Alej Svobody 80, 304 60 Plzeň Material and Methods: Complete blood cell count, iron, ferritin, transferrin, CRP, albumin, creatinine, hepcidin, soluble transferrin receptors (sTfR) and IL-6 were measured in samples from 164 patients included in chronic hemodialysis program (age 66 ± 13, 25 - 92 years), 63 women and 101 men and 37 control healthy volunteers (age 55 ± 20, 21 - 92 years), 21 women and 16 men. Results: Iron, transferrin and hemoglobin were significantly lower in the patients group (p<0.0001) while ferritin (p<0.0001), sTfR (p<0.05), hepcidin (p=0.0003), CRP and IL-6 (p<0.0001) were significantly higher in the patients group. Hepcidin weakly positively correlated with CRP and ferritin and weakly negatively correlated with transferrin in hemodialyzed patients. No correlation of hepcidin with other biochemical parameters in controls was found. Conclusion: It seems that the influence of inflammation on hepcidin levels in hemodialyzed patients is not crucial and other factors including its retention in end-stage renal disease participate., T.
