The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that more recently developed rubber dam systems (OptraDam ® Plus and OptiDam™) are faster and easier to handle, and that the quality of isolation is not decreased. The rubber dam systems were applied in standard conditions on a dental simulator in several model clinical situations. The time of preparation, application and removal were measured and the quality of isolation was evaluated. The median time of rubber dam placement was 51 s (Q1 = 38 s; Q3 = 79 s). The shortest median time of application was with OptiDam™ (42 s), followed by a conventional rubber dam (53 s), and finally the longest was with OptraDam® Plus (58 s). The median volume of fluid remaining in the isolated space after 5 minutes was 9.5 mL (Q1 = 8 mL; Q3 = 10 mL). The largest median volume of remaining water was with OptiDam™ (10 mL), followed by a conventional rubber dam (9.5 mL) and the least with OptraDam® Plus (8.5 mL). The afore-stated hypothesis about the advantages of modern rubber dam isolation systems was accepted for OptiDam™, but rejected for OptraDam® Plus. The aim of this study was to compare the isolation systems OptraDam® Plus and OptiDam™ with the conventional rubber dam in terms of objective and subjective parameters. The isolation systems were applied during the dental treatment of the patients. The time of preparation, placement, presence and removal were measured and the quality of isolation was evaluated. The median time of rubber dam placement was 76 s (Q1=62 s; Q3=111.25 s). The application time of OptraDam® Plus was significantly longer compared to the other systems (P ® plus. BACKGROUND: Radio frequency (RF) and chemical peels have been used for nonablative skin rejuvenation. Both of these cause collagen remodeling in the dermis and neo-collagen formation resulting in facial rejuvenation. There is limited literature on the evaluation of collagen remodeling by objective methods. OBJECTIVE: To compare the benefits of monopolar radiofrequency and glycolic acid peels in facial rejuvenation with regards to histopathology and Ultrabiomicroscopic sonography (UBM). METHODOLOGY: In this study, forty patients with mild to moderate photoaging received four treatments with 3 weeks interval of monopolar radiofrequency on one side of face and glycolic acid peels in increasing concentrations (NeostrataR) on the other side. Pre and post treatment, 2 mm biopsies were taken from both preauricular areas and Ultrasonography using a 35 MHz probe was done from outer canthus of eye and nasolabial folds from both sides of face. A blinded assessment was done to measure the increase in the grenz zone and dermal thickness. RESULTS: In 35/40 patients there was a significant increase in the grenz zone on histopathology and decrease in subepidermal low-echogenic band (SLEB) on UBM of the nasolabial folds on both sides of the face (p < 0.05). Úvod: Cílem práce je zhodnocení našich zkušeností a výsledků s použitím hybridních rekonstrukcí v terapii multietážového postižení tepenného systému dolních končetin a vyhodnocení vlivu indikace a typu hybridní rekonstrukce na jejich průchodnost. Metoda: Retrospektivní analýza souboru pacientů s prospektivním sběrem dat. Na základě typu hybridní rekonstrukce rozdělení pacientů do 5 skupin. Skupina pacientů „1“ podstoupila transluminální angioplastiku (TA) ? implantaci stentu do pánevního řečiště v kombinaci s plastikou tepen v třísle (35 pacientů; 27,6 %). Skupina pacientů „2“ podstoupila TA ? implantaci stentu do pánevního řečiště v kombinaci s infrainguinálním bypassem (15 pacientů; 11,8 %). Skupina pacientů „3“ podstoupila plastiku tepen v třísle v kombinaci s TA výtokového traktu končetiny: AFS ? AP ? bércové tepny (52 pacientů; 40,9 %). Skupina pacientů „4“ podstoupila provedení infrainguinálního bypassu v kombinaci s TA distálně od místa distální anastomózy rekonstrukce (3 pacienti; 2,4 %). Skupina pacientů „5“ představuje heterogenní skupinu hybridních rekonstrukcí, které nespadaly do některé ze 4 výše uvedených skupin (22 pacientů; 17,3 %). Na základě indikace k výkonu rozdělení souboru do 3 skupin: skupina „ALI“ pacienti s akutní končetinovou ischemií, skupina „CLI“ pacienti s kritickou končetinovou ischemií, skupina „II“ pacienti s klaudikačními obtížemi. Analýza průchodností provedena s použitím Kaplan-Meier life tables. Porovnání průchodnosti mezi skupinami provedeno pomocí log-rank testu. Statistická analýza provedena s použitím softwaru IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 . Výsledky: Soubor prezentuje 127 pacientů, kteří podstoupili 127 hybridních intervencí. Technický a klinický úspěch hybridní rekonstrukce byl 96,9 % a 98,4 %. 30denní perioperační mortalita byla 3,1 %. Výsledky primární (PP), primární asistované (PAP) a sekundární (SP) průchodnosti ve 2 letech byly nejlepší u pacientů s hybridním výkonem typu „1“ a „3“, tedy kombinací plastiky tepen v třísle a transluminální angioplastiky vtokového nebo výtokového traktu končetiny. Výsledky skupiny „1“ v pořadí PP, PAP a SP ve 2 letech: 80,6 %, 84,3 % a 84,3 %. Výsledky skupiny „3“ ve 2 letech ve stejném pořadí: 81,1 %, 82,8 % a 86,3 %. O poznání horších výsledků bylo dosaženo u pacientů ze skupiny „2“ a „5“. Výsledky PP, PAP a SP ve 2 letech u pacientů ze skupiny „2“ byly: 39,4 %, 59,1 % a 59,1 %. Výsledky průchodnosti pacientů z heterogenní skupiny „5“ byly ve 2 letech: 30,4 %, 49,2 % a 70,7 %. Při zohlednění vlivu indikace na průchodnost rekonstrukce ve 2 letech byly nejlepší výsledky primární asistované a sekundární průchodnosti dosaženy u pacientů ze skupiny „CLI“: 81,6 % a 86,2 %. Jenom primární průchodnost ve 2 letech byla nejlepší u pacientů s klaudikacemi (skupina „II“), a to 71,1 %. Pacienti indikováni k hybridnímu výkonu pro akutní končetinovou ischemií (ALI) dosahovali nejhorších výsledků z uvedených 3 skupin, a to PP, PAP a SP ve 2 letech: 33,7 %, 46,2 % a 45,5 %. Amputation-free survival ve 2 letech měl nejlepší hodnotu pro pacienty ze skupiny „CLI“, a to 89,1 % („II“ 81,9 %; „ALI“ 61,4 %). Overall-survival a amputation-free survival ve 2 letech za celý soubor dosahovaly hodnot 93,2 % a 82,3 %. Závěr: Hybridní revaskularizace je kombinovaný výkon, který umožňuje řešení multietážového postižení tepenného systému dolních končetin v rámci jednoho sezení. Je zatížen nízkým rizikem periprocedurální mortality a morbidity pro pacienta. Lze jím dosáhnout dobrých výsledků průchodnosti tepenného systému a záchrany končetiny bez ohledu na typ chronické ischemie (klaudikace, kritická končetinová ischemie). Výsledky u pacientů s akutní končetinovou ischemií jsou inferiorní. Jako výkon s nejlepšími výsledky nám vychází kombinace plastiky tepen v třísle spojená s transluminální angioplastikou vtokového nebo výtokového traktu končetiny., Introduction: The goal of this study was to evaluate our experience and results of single staged hybrid procedures for revascularization of lower extremities affected by multilevel arterial occlusive disease. We analysed the effect of the indication and type of reconstruction on patency. Method: Patients were retrospectively reviewed. Data collection was conducted prospectively. Patients were divided into 5 groups based on the type of hybrid reconstruction. Group “1” included patients who underwent transluminal angioplasty (TA) ? stenting of iliac arteries with endarterectomy (EA) and patch arterioplasty of the femoral bifurcation (35 patients; 27.6 %). Group “2” included patients who underwent TA ? stenting of iliac arteries with infrainguinal bypass (15 patients; 11.8 %). Group “3” consisted of patients who underwent TA ? stenting of outflow lower extremity arteries: superficial femoral artery ? popliteal artery ? crural arteries in combination with EA and patch arterioplasty of the femoral bifurcation (52 patients; 40.9 %). Group “4” represented patients who underwent infrainguinal bypass surgery in combination with TA distal to the site of open reconstruction (3 patients; 2.4%). Group “5” represented a heterogenous population of patients who underwent a hybrid reconstruction which did not belong to any of the 4 previously mentioned groups (22 patients; 17.3 %). The patients were divided into 3 groups based on the indication criteria of the intervention: Patients with acute limb ischemia (ALI) were put into group “ALI”. Patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) were put into group “CLI”. Patients with claudications were put into group “II”. Patency analyses were performed using Kaplan-Meier life tables. Differences in patency rates between the different groups of patients were determined using the log-rank test. Statistical analysis was performed using the software IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0. Results: The study included 127 patients who underwent 127 hybrid arterial procedures. Technical and clinical success rates were 96.9% and 98.4%. 30-day perioperative mortality rate was 3.1%. The primary (PP), assisted-primary (APP) and secondary patency (SP) results at 2 years were the best amongst the patients from groups “1” and “3”. These patients underwent patch arterioplasty ? EA of the femoral bifurcation in combination with transluminal angioplasty of inflow or outflow arteries of the lower extremity. The resulting PP, APP and SP rates at 2 years in group “1” were 80.6%, 84.3% and 84.3%. Patency rates in group “3“ in the same order at 2 years were 81.1 %, 82.8% and 86.3%. Significantly lower patency rates were achieved in patients from groups “2“ and “5“. The resulting PP, APP and SP rates in group “2” at 2 years were 39.4%, 59.1% and 59.1%; in group “5“ at 2 years they were 30.4%, 49.2% and 70.7%. Taking into account the effect of the indication on patency rates, we found that patients from group “CLI” had the best APP and SP rates at 2 years: 81.6% and 86.2%. Only the PP rate at 2 years was the best in group “II” (patients with claudications): 71.1%. Patients who underwent their operations because of acute limb ischemia (group “ALI”) achieved the worst results among these 3 groups. Their PP, APP and SP rates at 2 years were 33.7%, 46.2% and 45.5%. Patients from the group „CLI“ had the best amputation-free survival at 2 years: 89.1% amongst the 3 groups subdivided according to the indication for the intervention (“II“ 81.9%; “ALI“ 61.4%). Overall survival and amputation-free survival at 2 years were 93.2% and 82.3%, respectively, for the whole studied population. Conclusion: The hybrid procedure is an intervention which combines endovascular and open reconstruction performed at the same time. Hybrid procedures provide effective therapy for patients with multilevel lower extremity arterial disease. They have low complication rates, periprocedural morbidity and mortality. Using these procedures, we are able to achieve good limb salvage rates and patency rates irrespective of the form of chronic limb ischemia (claudications, critical limb ischemia). Results for patients with acute limb ischemia are inferior. The combination of patch arterioplasty ? endarterectomy of the femoral bifurcation with transluminal angioplasty of inflow or outflow limb arteries is our hybrid procedure of choice with the most favourable results., and E. Úvod: Cílem prospektivní randomizované studie bylo porovnání tahové cerkláže a hákovité dlahy při léčbě AC luxací, především z hlediska funkčních a radiologických výsledků. Metoda: Soubor tvořilo 80 pacientů s akutní akromioklavikulární (AC) luxací typu 3, 4 a 5 Rockwoodovy klasifikace. Diagnóza byla stanovena na základě klinického (defigurace a instabilita) a rtg vyšetření (AP a zátěžové rtg). Tahovou cerkláží (TC) bylo ošetřeno 40 pacientů a hákovitou dlahou (HD) rovněž 40 pacientů. Hodnocení bylo prováděno v průběhu jednoho roku po operaci na základě rtg snímků a Constant score. Výsledky: Constantovo skóre 3 měsíce od operace činilo průměrně u TC 84 bodů a u HD 88 bodů. Po 1 roce od operace byl výsledek shodně 93 bodů u obou skupin. V souboru HD se hodnota skóre zvýšila mezi 2 a 4 týdny od operace z 56 na 78 bodů. V 71 případech bylo pooperační postavení AC kloubu a implantátu hodnoceno jako správné. U 6 případů jsme nalezli malpozici Kirschnerových drátů a ve 3 případech horizontální rozšíření AC kloubu. Redislokace v rozsahu 50–100 % šíře kosti akromia byla na rtg snímku patrná u 4 pacientů (10 %) ze skupiny TC a u 5 pacientů (13 %) ze skupiny HD. Viditelnou osteolýzu distální plochy akromia jsme nalezli u 83 % pacientů s HD. Komplikace jsme zaznamenali u 30 % pacientů s TC a u 5 % pacientů s HD. Závěr: Hákovitá dlaha i tahová cerkláž jsou srovnatelnými metodami při léčbě AC luxace hodnocené radiologicky a klinicky po 3 měsících a 1 roce od operace. Hákovitá dlaha má nižší počet komplikací a umožňuje časnější plnou zátěž a hybnost než TC. U TC doporučujeme odstranění implantátu za 8 týdnů, dobu 6 týdnů považujeme za příliš krátkou pro zhojení měkkých tkání. U HD je vhodné odstranění do 3 měsíců vzhledem k subakromiálnímu dráždění a tlakové osteolýze., Introduction: The aim of the prospective randomized study was to compare tension wire cerclage and hook plate in the treatment of AC dislocation, primarily from the viewpoint of functional and radiological results. Method: The cohort comprised 80 patients with acute acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation of types 3, 4 and 5 of Rockwood classification. The diagnosis was based on the clinical (disfiguration and instability) and radiographic examination (AP and stress radiograph). Forty patients were treated with tension band wiring (TBW) and another 40 with a hook plate (HP). Evaluation was performed during one year after the surgery based on radiographs and the Constant score. Results: The mean Constant score 3 months after the surgery was 84 points for TBW and 88 points for HP. One year after the surgery, the result was the same in both groups: 93 points. In HP group the score increased from 56 to 78 points between 2 and 4 weeks from the surgery. In 71 cases the postoperative position of the AC joint and implant was assessed as correct. Malposition of Kirschner wires was recorded in 6 cases and horizontal widening of the AC joint in 3 cases. Redislocation of up to 50−100% of the width of acromion was shown by radiograph in 4 TBW patients (10%) and in 5 HP patients (13%). A visible osteolysis of the distal surface of acromion was found in 83% of patients with HP. Complications were recorded in 30% of TBW patients and in 5% of HP patients. Conclusion: Based on radiological and clinical results assessed 3 months and 1 year after the surger, the hook plate and tension band wiring are comparable treatment methods for AC dislocation. The hook plate is associated with a lower complication rate and allows earlier full weight bearing and mobility than tension wire cerclage. In TBW we recommend to remove the implant after 8 weeks; 6 weeks are in our view too short a period for the healing of soft tissues. Huntingtonova nemoc (HD) je neurodegenerativní porucha způsobená elongací CAG repetic v genu kódující protein huntingtin (Htt). U pacientů jsou v postižených tkáních přítomny vedle monomerní formy hlavně N‑koncové fragmenty, oligomery a polymery mutovaného huntingtinu (mtHtt), oproti tomu samotná monomerní forma mtHtt je exprimována v podstatě ve všech buňkách. Nejvíce postižené tkáně jsou bazální ganglia a mozková kůra. V této studii jsme analyzovali přítomnost N‑koncových fragmentů a oligomerů Htt v různých tkáních 24- a 36měsíčních transgenních (TgHD) miniprasat exprimujících N‑koncovou část lidského mutovaného huntingtinu a jejich zdravých sourozenců. Zjistili jsme, že mozková kůra a varlata na rozdíl od svalu a srdce TgHD miniprasat obsahují kromě monomerní formy i N‑koncové fragmenty a oligomerní smíry. Ve svalech z 36 měsíčních TgHD miniprasat však již začíná mírná fragmentace. Tato zjištění napodobují časnou progresi onemocnění u lidí, a proto miniprase poskytuje slibný model pro terapeutické testování HD. In patients, in addition to the monomeric form of huntingtin, N‑terminal fragments, oligomers, and polymers are present mostly in the affected tissues, even though the mutated huntingtin (mtHtt) is expressed basically in all cells. The most affected tissues are basal ganglia and cerebral cortex. In this study we analyzed the presence of N‑terminal fragments and oligomers of Htt in different tissues of 24 and 36 months old experimental animals. This was done in our large animal model of HD, which uses transgenic (TgHD) minipigs expressing N‑terminal part of human mtHtt. Among all the tissues tested, we found cortex and testes to contain N‑terminal fragments as well as oligomeric smears in TgHD minipigs compared to wild type siblings. On the other hand, we did not detect any fragments or oligomers in muscle and heart of TgHD minipigs, only starting fragmentation in muscles of 36 months old animals. Cíl: Správný pooperační režim je důležitou součástí rekonvalescence po dekompresi karpálního tunelu. Cílem této prospektivní randomizované studie je zjistit, zda pooperační dočasné dlahování má klinicky významný efekt, nebo zda není naopak zbytečné. Výsledky dosud publikovaných prací nedávají jasné, prokazatelné a jednoznačné doporučení. Soubor a metodika: Do souboru bylo zařazeno celkem 72 pacientů s klinicky a elektromyograficky prokázaným syndromem karpálního tunelu, kteří byli randomizováni do dvou skupin. V první skupině byla pacientům po operaci na dva týdny přiložena dorzální dlaha fixující zápěstí v neutrální poloze a v druhé skupině dlaha použita nebyla. Před operací i po operaci byla hodnocena distální motorická latence, síla stisku a míra subjektivních obtíží pomocí specializovaných dotazníků DASH (Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire) a Bostonského dotazníku (Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire). Výsledky: Po operaci došlo ke zkrácení distální motorické latence a mírnému snížení síly stisku, ale mezi skupinami nebyly nalezeny statisticky významné rozdíly (p > 0,05). Po operaci došlo také k předpokládanému zmírnění subjektivních obtíží, objektivizovanému dotazníkovými koeficienty, ale mezi skupinami nebyl nalezen statisticky významný rozdíl (p > 0,05). Závěr: Podle našich zjištění dočasné dlahování po otevřené dekompresi karpálního tunelu ve srovnání s nedlahovanou skupinou nezlepšuje výsledky chirurgické léčby. Používání dlahy v této indikaci se jeví jako nadbytečné jak z lékařského, tak z ekonomického pohledu. Na druhou stranu dočasné dlahování po operaci výsledky operační léčby nezhoršuje., Aim: Correct post-operative care is an important part of recovery after carpal tunnel decompression. The aim of this prospective randomized study was to determine whether postoperative temporary splinting has a clinically significant effect, or whether it is unnecessary. The results of published data do not give clear, demonstrable and unambiguous recommendations. Material and methods: A total of 72 patients with clinically and electrodiagnostically established diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized into two groups. The first group included patients with a dorsal splint, fixing the wrist in a neutral position for two weeks after surgery, whereas the second group included patients, in whom the splint was not used after surgery. Distal motor latency, grip strength and degree of subjective symptoms were assessed before and after surgery using specific questionnaires, namely the DASH questionnaire (Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand) and the Boston questionnaire (Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire). Results: After surgery, there was a reduction of distal motor latency and a moderate reduction of grip strength, but there were no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) between the two groups. After surgery, the anticipated improvement of subjective symptoms was achieved, objectified by questionnaire coefficients. However, there was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) between the two groups either. Conclusion: According to our findings, temporary splinting after open carpal tunnel decompression does not improve the results of surgical treatment compared to the non-splinted group. Using the splint in this indication seems to be redundant from the medical and economic point of view. On the other hand, temporary splinting after surgery does not cause worsening of the results of surgical treatment. Konečné produkty pokročilé glykace (AGEs) hrají významnou roli v patogenezi diabetu i diabetických komplikací. Jejich hromadění v oční čočce odráží celkový stav glykace v organizmu. Nedávno byl na trh uveden nový konfokální biomikroskop ClearPath DS-120, který umožňuje rychlé a neinvazivní stanovení AGEs v oční čočce na základě autofluorescence (LAF) některých AGEs. V naší pilotní studii jsme vyšetřili LAF u 69 diabetiků a 49 zdravých kontrol a srovnali se současně měřenou kožní autofluorescencí (SAF) na předloktí pomocí AGE-Readeru. Bylo pozorováno významné zvýšení LAF (DM1T: 0,27 ? 0,09; DM2T: 0,22 ? 0,06; kontroly: 0,17 ? 0,04 AU; p < 0,0001) i SAF (DM1T: 2,0 ? 0,4; DM2T: 2,3 ? 0,6; kontroly: 1,8 ? 0,3 AU; p < 0,0001) u pacientů s diabetem oproti zdravým kontrolám. Ve všech skupinách byl popsán významný vztah mezi LAF a SAF (DM1T: r = 0,53; p < 0,005; DM2T: r = 0,37; p < 0,05; kontroly: r = 0,30; p < 0,05). Naopak závislost LAF ani SAF na HbA1c nebyla přesvědčivá, což asi souvisí s tím, že hodnota glykovaného hemoglobinu dostatečně neodráží mnohaletý stav glykace v organizmu. Stanovení oční autofluorescence možná přináší robustní marker dlouhodobé kompenzace diabetu predikující riziko budoucích komplikací, avšak definitivní potvrzení takové hypotézy si vyžádá četnější a delší klinické studie., Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of diabetes and its complications. Their accumulation in the lens reflects total glycation rate in the human body. Recently, a new confocal biomicroscope ClearPath DS-120 quickly measuring lens autofluorescence (LAF) has been developed. Our pilot study included 69 patients with diabetes and 49 healthy controls, in all subject LAF was measured and compared with skin autofluorescence (SAF) assessed by AGE-Reader. Both LAF (T1DM: 0,27 ? 0,09; T2DM: 0,22 ? 0,06; controls: 0,17 ? 0,04 AU; p < 0,0001) and SAF (T1DM: 2,0 ? 0,4; T2DM: 2,3 ? 0,6; controls: 1,8 ? 0,3 AU; p < 0,0001) was significantly higher in patients with diabetes. In all groups significant relationship between LAF and SAF was observed (T1DM: r = 0,53, p < 0,005, T2DM: r = 0,37, p < 0.05; controls: r = 0,30, p < 0,05). On the contrary, LAF and SAF relationship with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was rather poor, since HbA1c cannot wholly reflect long-term glycation process. Lens autofluorescence could be a robust marker of long-term diabetes control predicting future complication risks. Huntingtonova nemoc (HN) je autozomálně dominantní neurodegenerativní onemocnění charakterizované poškozením volních a mimovolních pohybů, poruchami chování a zhoršením kognitivních funkcí. Společně s hlavními motorickými příznaky byly poruchy hlasu a řeči pozorovány u většiny pacientů s HN. Zvířecí prasečí model je často používán pro výzkum v preklinických studiích. I přes zjevné rozdíly v anatomii artikulačních orgánů mezi prasaty a lidmi lze očekávat stejné trendy u patofyziologických mechanizmů s ohledem na chrochtání i lidskou fonaci. Hlavním cílem této studie bylo proto navržení vhodného experimentu, který umožní získání dostatečně dlouhého záznamu chrochtání od co největšího počtu prasátek. Dalším cílem studie bylo zrealizovaní výsledné verze experimentu na celé databázi a vyhodnocení množství a kvality získaných nahrávek. Databáze použitá pro studii zahrnovala 17 HN transgenních miniprasátek a 16 zdravých sourozenců ze stejných vrhů. Testované varianty experimentu, provedené na části databáze zahrnující čtyři prasnice, byly rozděleni do čtyř podskupin: (a) pozitivní – krmení, (b) pozitivní – zvuková stimulace, (c) negativní – bránění v pohybu, (d) negativní – nepříjemné doteky. Hodnocení kvality získaných nahrávek bylo provedeno s pomocí audio softwaru, ve kterém bylo izolováno čisté prasečí chrochtání a všechny akustické artefakty vymazány. Nejlepších výsledků bylo dosaženo s použitím experimentu při kterém: (i) je záznamové zařízení upevněno na tělo prasátka, (ii) prasátko je ponecháno několik minut o samotě v místnosti, aby se uklidnilo a (iii) osoba vstoupí do místnosti a snaží se nabízet prasátku krmivo zatímco před ním couvá. V důsledku tohoto jednání prasátko následuje osobu s krmením, což je doprovázeno chrochtáním. Dostatečně dlouhé (20 chrochtnutí a více) a čisté nahrávky byly získány od 24 z 33 prasátek (73 %). Závěrem lze tedy říci, že experiment je proveditelný. Besides the main motor symptoms, voice and speech disorders have been documented in a large majority of patients with HD. The animal model of pigs is often used in preclinical studies. Although there are obvious differences in the anatomy of the articulation organs between pigs and humans, the same trends in pathophysiological mechanisms can be expected in both grunting and human phonation. The main aim of the study was therefore to design a suitable experiment that would allow for acquisition of a sufficiently long recording of grunting from as many pigs as possible. The second goal was to perform the final version of the experiment in all available pigs and to evaluate the amount and quality of the acquired recordings. The database consists of 17 HD transgenic minipigs and 16 healthy siblings. Tested variants of the experiment, performed on subgroup of four sows, were divided into four subgroups: (a) positive – feeding, (b) positive – sound stimulation, (c) negative – hindering in movement, (d) negative – unpleasant touch. The evaluation of the quality of the elicited recording was performed using audio software where pure pig grunting was selected and all acoustic artefacts deleted. The best results were reached using the experiment in which: (i) a recording device is put on the pig’s body, (ii) the pig is left alone for few minutes in the pen in order to calm down, and (iii) a person enters the room and tries to offer the pig food while walking backwards. As a result, the pig follows the person and grunts. Sufficiently long (20 single grunts or more) and clear recordings were received from 24 out of 33 pigs (73%). The realisation of the experiment is therefore possible. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of allergic rhinitis on the success of the operation in chronic otitis surgery by using score for allergic rhinitis (SFAR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present study; 121 patients, who underwent type 1 tympanoplasty were examined retrospectively. SFAR of all patients were recorded. The graft success rates of 26 patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and 95 patients with no allergic rhinitis group (NAR) were compared. RESULTS: While the graft success rate in NAR group was 89.5%, this rate was 80.8% in the AR group. However, the difference between groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.311). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that allergic rhinitis decreases the graft success rate of the pathologies occurring in eustachian tube, middle ear and mastoid although statistically significant difference wasn't found.
