The International Year of Astronomy 2009 was a global effort launched by the International Astronomical Union (lAU) and UNESCO to help citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe. IYA2009 marked the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's first astronomical observation through a telescope in 1609, an event that changed t world forever. IYA2009 has shown astronomy as global scientific endeavor that unites astronomer to an international family of scientists working together to find answers to fundamental questions that humankind has always asked. The International Year of Planet Earth 2008 provides an unparalleled opportunity to publicize and celebrate the contributions made by Earth Sciences and Earth scientists to our society on a global scale. On this occasion The Council of the Popularization of Science organized in the building of Academy of Science in February a conference where experts of geological sciences emphasized the important progress in understanding the Earth processes over the past decades. The Institute of Art History of the CAS held the third workshop in a series of annual two-week workshops from 13 to 24 July, 2015 that focused on specific topics relating to the conservation and preservation of photographic materials. The workshop took place at the facilities of the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Department of Photography. It examined the environment of photographic materials at several levels, starting from an overview of the building and its systems and progressing to specific exhibition and storage conditions, and the selection of appropriate housing and enclosure materials and techniques. Chlorophyll Fluorescence in Aquatic Sciences (AQUAFLUO) Conference in Nové Hrady between May 28 and June 1 was the first of its kind and enabled researchers from a variety of fields to discuss current aquatic research problems. Addressing the conference was Prof. Paul Falkowski of Rutgers University, a member of prestigious (U.S.) National Academy of Sciences and specialist in Geological Sciences and Marine and Coastal Sciences. As such he is engaged in iron fertilizer for phytoplankton and phytoplankton´s role in the carbon dioxide cycle. Mandelinka bramborová je v našich podmínkách nejrozšířenějším a nejznámějším hmyzím škůdcem, který způsobuje velké ekonomické škody zejména na porostech brambor tím, že larvy spolu s dospělými brouky redukují listovou plochu a v některých případech mohou způsobit i holožír. Její původní oblastí výskytu je Severní Amerika. Na našem kontinentu se poprvé objevila v roce 1922 ve Francii a do konce dvacátého století se stala problémem v celé Evropě, Malé Asii, Iránu, Centrální Asii a západní Číně. Na české území dorazila v 50. letech a její invaze okamžitě nabrala podobu kalamity. V důsledku intenzivního používání insekticidů si mandelinka postupně vytvořila rezistenci k většině přípravků a její regulace je tak v současné době značně obtížná. Kromě využití stále diskutovaných geneticky modifikovaných plodin se jako perspektivní řešení problému rezistence škůdce jeví vývoj metod biologické ochrany rostlin za pomoci přirozených patogenních organismů, které napadají hmyz., Laboratory experiments were conducted to assess the efficacy of entomopathogenic fungus Isaria fumosorosea against the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, when applied alone or combined with the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae.
