In pondering how the existing evidence pertaining to the early Slavs in Bohemia and Moravia may be assessed, the paper rejects the arguments presented by Naďa Profantová, Felix Biermann, and Andrej Pleterski, in particular the idea of a migration of the early Slavs from western Ukraine and Bukovina into Bohemia and Moravia. The chronology of assemblages of the so-called “culture with Prague-type pottery” proposed by Profantová is demonstrably wrong, while Pleterski’s idea of a specifically Slavic “kitchen culture” rests on insufficient knowledge of the changes in eating practices accompanying economic transformations in the Mediterranean region during the sixth and seventh centuries. Against Biermann’s uncritical treatment of the written sources, particularly of Fredegar, the paper argues that the text of the Chronicle of Fredegar is not to be taken at face value, but understood as a means to please Fredegar’s Austrasian audience. and V úvaze o hodnocení stávajícího dokladového materiálu vztahujícího se k raným Slovanům v Čechách a na Moravě odmítá autor tohoto textu argumenty přednesené Naďou Profantovou, Felixem Biermannem a Andrejem Pleterskim, obzvláště myšlenku příchodu prvotních Slovanů do Čech a na Moravu ze západní Ukrajiny a Bukoviny.
Studie sleduje etnogenezi Slovanů do 6. století. Příklad vsi Police ve Slovinsku ukazuje, že pro pochopení slovanské etnogeneze je třeba propojit tři interpretační modely: autochtonní, alochtonní a kulturně asimilační. and A foundation of self-understanding of the Slavs was their language. Therefore, the history of the Slavs is to a large extent the history of their language. The article describes their ethnogenezis up to the 6th century. Their expansion to the west and south lasted 400 years, they had a lot of assimilative power. Therefore, it is possible that their homeland was originally a small territory. Juridical form of the assimilation of foreigners was a so-called vrv (rope) as a symbolic-social phenomenon. An example of village Police (Slovenia) suggests that to understand the ethnogenesis of the Slavs a synthesis of three interpretative models – autochthonous, allochthonous, cultural assimilation – is needed.
V tomto příspěvku bychom chtěli přiblížit přístupnou formou současné výsledky genetických studií pravěku Evropy, jež spolu s kulturními dějinami vytvářejí ucelenější obraz naší sdílené, ale nikým nezapsané minulosti. and History of human populations (changes in the number of inhabitants and their origin) represent one of the domains of biological anthropology, or more precisely archaeogenetics. The recent decade has seen significant advances in molecular-genetic and biostatistical methods that allowed reconstruction of demographic changes in past populations in different parts of the world. At the time of development of genetic methods for reconstruction of prehistory, we had at our disposal a limited number of samples enabling us to study only certain parts of human genetic variability, while today we find ourselves in the era of genomics, and we should therefore rather refer to archaeogenomics, working with incomparably bigger amount of data and achieving far more reliable results. Furthermore, there is no doubt that the upcoming periods will complete the population history reconstruction, e.g. with new knowledge achieved in the fields of epigenomics and microbiome. This article nonetheless aims to present in a reader-friendly way the recent results of genetic studies of European prehistory, which together with the cultural history give a more complete picture of our shared yet unwritten past.
