Water-borne transmission of the coccidium Cryptosporidium parvum Tyzzer, 1912 is frequently responsible for outbreaks of human cryptosporidiosis. One of the most important was reported in 1993 in Milwaukee in the United States, where 403,000 cases were recorded. The determination of the percentage of oocysts excystated is the first step in evaluating their viability, but it alone is not sufficient. This percentage depended on the conditions of storage and also the presence of oxidant or disinfectent agents in water. The percentage of excystation is not always related to viability. Therefore, determination of the viability of excysted sporozoites by determining their infectivity for enterocytic Caco2 cell lines in culture provides information essential for evaluating the risk of contaminated drinking water.
This is a followup report on the viability of pathogenic Acanthamoeba castellami, Naegleria australiensis, and N. fowleri during 5 years of cryopreservation and the virulence of N. fowleri during 30 months of cryostorage, all at -70’C. The greatest decrease in viability occurred during the first year of freezing and was 10-fold greater than the average yearly decrease during years 2-5. At 5 years of cryostorage, viability was 33 % for A. castellana, 38 % for N. fowleri and 51% for N. australiensis. Virulence of N. fowleri did not decrease during 30 months of freezing and what appeared to be an increase in virulence during cryopreservation may be the result of reduced viability of the less virulent amebae in a culture.
This is a follow-up report on the viability of pathogenic Naegleria fowleri, Naegleria australiensis and Acanthamoeba castellanii isolates during 5 to 10 years of cryopreservation at –70°C. The greatest decrease in viability occurred with N. fowleri and the least occurred with N. australiensis. At 10 years of cryostorage, viability was 21% for N. fowleri, 32% for A. castellanii and 51% for N. australiensis.
The influence of water environment on natural frequencies of a Francis pump-turbine runner with the shaft is analyzed. The computations are executed by ANSYS program package based on finite element method. The fluid ‘equivalent mass‘ matrix concept is used. For solution, the Euler approach is used. Obtained natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes of the turbine runner with shaft in vaccum, in air and in water are presented. A detailed analysis of dynamical properties of five-blade-bundle mathematical model was carried out with the aim to investigate how the damping elements made of rubber inserted into slots between blades heads influence the response curves at different distribution of exciting harmonic forces. Viscous-elastic linear Voigt-Kelvin model was used for modeling the rheological properties of damping elements. Constant values of stiffness and damping parameters were supposed at analysis. Caterpillars of the poplar lutestring moth, Tethea or, construct leaf shelters that they defend against intruding conspecifics using a combination of vibratory signals and physical aggression. Staged interactions between a resident caterpillar and introduced conspecific were recorded with a video camera and laser vibrometer. Residents crawl towards the intruder and perform three behaviours: lateral hitting, pushing, and mandible scraping. Vibrations caused by mandible scraping result from the caterpillar repeatedly scraping opened mandibles laterally against the leaf surface in bouts lasting 1.16 ± 0.39 s, with an average of 4 ± 1 scrapes per bout. We propose that these scrapes function in leaf shelter defense against conspecifics for the following reasons: Mandible scrapes are produced only by residents; they are generated when a resident is approached by an intruder; the rate of scraping increases as the intruder approaches the shelter; and residents in all trials retain their shelters, with the intruder leaving the leaf within 127.9 ±104.3s from the beginning of the trial. In the paper there are deduced differential equations of the vibroisolation system of the ambulance couch. The kinematic excitation is realized in three directions: the vertical translation and the rotations around the both horizontal axes of the car. The suspension of the ambulance couch corresponds to this presumption and is made by the parallelogram; on the upper base there is a double level Cardan suspension.

V letech 1959–2008 počet zhoubných novotvarů centrální nervové soustavy (ZN CNS) z dat registru nádorů ČR dosáhl 26 548, z toho 14 263 (53,7 %) u mužů a 12 285 (46,3 %) u žen, v roce 2008 představující u mužů 412 (8,1/100 tis.), u žen 418 (7,9/100 tis.) onemocnění. Jejich prevalence v letech 1989–2005 vzrostla z 1169 na 2 565 žijících případů s očekávaným počtem 3 430 v roce 2015. Z 962 vícečetných ZN CNS, evidovaných v letech 1976–2005, bylo 150 primárních onemocnění u mužů a 162 u žen, 327 následných ZN CNS u mužů a 323 u žen tj. 5,1 % ze všech nově hlášených u mužů a 6,2 % u žen. Za toto období vzrostl v pětiletých intervalech počet primárních případů dvakrát, následných téměř třicetkrát. U primárních a následných ZN CNS převažovaly ve věku do 49 let ženy nad muži, v 50–69 letech muži nad ženami. Ze 14 krajů se vyskytlo 47 % ZN CNS ve čtyřech krajích (Moravskoslezský, Jihomoravský, Praha, Středočeský). Pouze 6,2 % multiplicit bylo evidováno v časných a 7,4 % v pokročilých klinických stadiích; 86,4 % stadií nebylo nahlášeno. Průměrný interval mezi 150 primárními ZN CNS a 170 jinými následnými novotvary u mužů byl pět let, mezi 162 primárními a 170 následnými u žen byl šest let, ze kterých byly u obou pohlaví nejpočetnější následné karcinomy trávicího ústrojí a kůže. Před 327 následnými ZN CNS bylo u mužů 390 primárních novotvarů, u žen před 323 následnými 362 primárních, ze kterých byly nejpočetnější karcinomy kůže, rodidel, prsů, prostaty a trávicího ústrojí. V říjnu 2007 žilo v době analýzy z 962 ZN CNS jen 91 a zemřelo 871 nemocných s převahou žijících žen nad muži., The number of malignant neoplasms of central nervous system (MN CNS), based in the Czech Cancer Registry, reached 26,548 diseases, of which there were 14,263 (53.7 %) of males and 12,285 (46.3 %) of females in 1959–2008, presented 412 (8.1 per 100,000 males) and 418 (7.9 per 100,000 females) diseases in 2008. Their prevalence increased from 1,169 to 2,565 survived cases between 1989–2005, with 3,430 cases expected in 2015. A total of 962 registered multiple MN CNS there were 150 primary diseases in males and 162 in females, 327 subsequent MN CNS in males and 323 in females, i. e. 5.1 % in males and 6.2 % in females of all newly registered MN CNS in period 1976–2005. In this period the number of primary cases increased twice, of subsequent ones nearly 30 times during five periods. The primary and subsequent MN CNS prevailed in the age group till 49 years in females over males, in the age group 50–69 years in males over females. A total of 14 Czech regions there were distributed 47 % of all multiple MN CNS in the four regions (Northern and Southern Moravia, Prague, Central Bohemia). Only 6.2 % multiplicities were registered in early and 7.4 % in advanced clinical stages; 86.4 % stages were unregistered. The average interval between 150 primary MN CNS and 170 other subsequent neoplasms was five years in males, between 162 primary and 170 subsequent cases six years in females, of which the most frequent were following digestive and skin carcinomas in both sex. In 327 subsequent MN CNS preceded 390 primary cancers in males, in 323 subsequent were 362 primary cases in females, of which the most frequent were carcinomas of skin, female genital and breast, prostate and digestive tract. Vícečetné zhoubné novotvary (VZN) postihující téhož nemocného patří mezi obávané komplikace léčby. Při jejich odlišné histologické a topografické povaze se spatřuje příčina jejich výskytu v razantní terapii prvotní malignity a v dědičné predispozici. Z rozdílu počtu případů a osob evidovaných v Národním onkologickém registru od května 1976 a žijících s nádory dg. C00-D09 byl stanoven vývoj počtu VZN u mužů a žen k 31. 12. v letech 1989-2005 v ČR a 14 krajích. Za uvedené období vzrostl počet VZN u mužů ve věku 0-85+ let z 6132 (8,6 % z celkové prevalence) na 33 388 (17,6 %) a žen z 5856 (5,7 %) na 32 610 (12 %), u mužů v produktivním věku 35-64 let z 1503 (5 %) na 5798 (9 %) a žen z 1762 (3,6 %) na 8314 (7,2 %). Zastoupení VZN u nemocných v produktivním věku se snížilo během 16 let na 17,4 % u mužů a 25,5 % u žen v roce 2005. Nejvíc nádorových duplicit se vyskytlo v kraji Moravskoslezském, Praze, kraji Jihomoravském a Olomouckém. Uvedený přehled neumožňuje identifikovat první a další nádory i jejich časový odstup. K jejich odhadu může přispět pořadí malignit s nejvyšším nárůstem prevalence v letech 1989 až 2005: nádory kůže, prsu, prostaty, tlustého střeva, ledvin, melanom, nádory rektosigmoidea, močového měchýře, dělohy, vaječníku, štítné žlázy, varlete a NH lymfomy. Při pokračující diagnostice, léčbě a evidenci malignit lze očekávat, že s rostoucími počty onkologicky přežívajících pacientů dosáhne zastoupení VZN k 31. 12. 2010 umužů 20 %,užen 14 %,což za obě pohlaví představuje zvýšení na 98 tis., z toho 20 tis.VZN v produktivním věku, což ovlivňuje také výdaje na zdravotní péči u novotvarů. Jejich objem vzrostl v letech 2000-2005 ze 7,222 miliard Kč na 9,013 miliard Kč s podílem 68,1 % na léčebnou péči, 26,6 % na podpůrné služby, 2,9 % na dlouhodobou péči,1 % na léky a 0,7 % na prevenci. Mezi 21 kategoriemi nemocí dosáhly novotvary svými výdaji pořadí: 3. v léčebné péči, 2. v podpůrných službách, 3. v prevenci, 5. v dlouhodobé péči, 7. v lécích, 7. v rehabilitační péči. Při pokračujícím vývoji mohou náklady na novotvary v roce 2010 dosáhnout téměř 11 miliard Kč při odhadu 595 tis. žijících případů malignit. Ke zpomalení růstu počtů žijících malignit by mohla přispět terapie včasných klinických stadií a účinnější prevence.V onkologii to platí o to víc, oč více si nemocný uvědomuje, že jeho zdraví sice není všechno, ale všechno ostatní bez zdraví není ničím., Multiple malignant neoplasms (MMN) belong to feared complications of the patient's therapy.With their different histology and topography characteristics the cause of their occurrence is considered to be in penetrative or fierce treatment of primary neoplasm and in hereditary predisposition. From the difference between cases and persons registered in the Czech Cancer Registry since May 1976 and living with cancer of dg. C00-D09 there was determined the trend of MMN in men and women to 31. 12. in the years 1989-2005 in the Czech Republic and 14 regions. The introduced summary does not enable to identify first and following cancers and their timing relationship. To their estimation we used the list of cancers with the highest increase of prevalance in 1989-2005. With the continuing diagnostics, treatment and mandatory reporting we can expect the rising numbers of cancer prevalence cases and the MMN will reach 20% in male and 14% in female as of 31. 12. 2010. It means for both sexes increasing to 98 thousand, from which 20 thousand MMN in productive age with the higher healthcare expenditures in oncology. Their burden increased from 7222 billion CZK to 9013 billion CZK during 2000-2005. Příspěvek se zabývá vícečetným pohřebním kontextem z Velkých Přílep (okr. Praha–západ), datovaným do starší doby bronzové. Studium je založeno na mezioborové spolupráci archeologie a biologické antropologie se zaměřením na teoretické otázky spojené s minulou živou kulturou (intencionalita, vznik a účel pohřebního komplexu) a její transformací do archeologických pramenů. Studium transformací formálních (poškození, rozpad a zánik kostní tkáně), polohových (disartikulace kostí v kloubních spojeních) a odhady některých antropologických parametrů bylo uskutečněno již v terénní fázi výzkumu. Diskutována jsou témata intencionality pohřebního kontextu, rekonstrukce postupu jeho ztvárnění a účelu v daném kulturním prostředí. and The work focuses on the context of a multiple burial of 6 individuals from Velké Přílepy (distr. Prague-west), dated to the Early Bronze Age. The study is based on the interdisciplinary cooperation between archaeology and biological anthropology, focusing on the theoretical issues linked to a past living culture (intentionality, rise and purpose of burial complex) and its transformation into archaeological record. The study of the transformation of formal (damage, decomposition and disintegration of bone tissue), positional (disarticulation of bone joints) and estimation of some anthropological parameters has already taken place during the fieldwork. Topics such as the intentionality of the rise of the burial complex, the reconstruction of the advancement of its formation and the purpose within the given cultural environment will be covered.
