In this article, a general problem of sequential statistical inference for general discrete-time stochastic processes is considered. The problem is to minimize an average sample number given that Bayesian risk due to incorrect decision does not exceed some given bound. We characterize the form of optimal sequential stopping rules in this problem. In particular, we have a characterization of the form of optimal sequential decision procedures when the Bayesian risk includes both the loss due to incorrect decision and the cost of observations.
There are many relations involving the geometric means Gn(x) and power means [An(x γ )]1/γ for positive n-vectors x. Some of them assume the form of inequalities involving parameters. There then is the question of sharpness, which is quite difficult in general. In this paper we are concerned with inequalities of the form (1 − λ)G γ n(x) + λAγ n(x) ≥ An(x γ ) and (1 − λ)G γ n(x) + λAγ n(x) ≤ An(x γ ) with parameters λ ∈ R and γ ∈ (0, 1). We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the former inequality, and a sharp condition for the latter. Several applications of our results are also demonstrated.
Performance of any machine tool is, under certain technological conditions, limited by chatter, which occurs during machining. The limit between machining without and with chatter is called limit of stability. It is expressed by so called stable depth of cut, which is defíned under certain conditions. The article deals with the investigation of optimal modal parameters for machine tool models. The criterion for this optimum is the highest limit of stability.
In functional arterial studies using wire myography, the determination of a vessel’s standardized normalization factor (factor k) is an essential step to ensure optimal contraction and relaxation by the arteries when stimulated with their respective vasoactive agents and to obtain reproducible results. The optimal factor k for several arteries have been determined, however, the optimal initial tension and factor k for the arteries involved in erection remains unknown. Hence, in the present study we set out to determine the optimal factor k for the internal iliac artery, proximal and distal internal pudendal artery (IPA), and dorsal penile artery. After isolating, harvesting, and mounting the arteries from male Sprague-Dawley rats on a multi wire myograph, we tested arterial responsivity to high K+-stimulation when the factor k was set at 0.7, 0.8, 0.85, 0.9, 0.95, 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 to determine the factor k setting that results in the greatest K+-induced active force production for each vessel type. The data showed the optimal factor k is 0.90-0.95 for the dorsal penile, distal internal pudendal and internal iliac arteries while it is 0.85-0.90 for proximal internal pudendal artery. These optimal values corresponded to initial passive tension settings of 1.10±0.16 - 1.46±0.23, 1.28±0.20 - 1.69±0.34, 1.03±0.27 - 1.33±0.31, and 1.33±0.31 - 1.77±0.43 mN/mm for the dorsal penile, distal IP, proximal IP, and internal iliac arteries, respectively.
In this paper, the problems on purposefully controlling chaos for a three-dimensional quadratic continuous autonomous chaotic system, namely the chaotic Pehlivan-Uyaroglu system are investigated. The chaotic system, has three equilibrium points and more interestingly the equilibrium points have golden proportion values, which can generate single folded attractor. We developed an optimal control design, in order to stabilize the unstable equilibrium points of this system. Furthermore, we propose Lyapunov stability to control the Pehlivan-Uyaroglu system with unknown parameters by way of a feedback control approach and a single controller. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategies.
The information divergence of a probability measure P from an exponential family E over a finite set is defined as infimum of the divergences of P from Q subject to Q∈E. Úvod: Současné medicínské poznatky nám nabízejí široké spektrum možností, jak pečovat o chronickou ránu. Zejména v posledních desetiletích došlo k významnému pokroku na poli jejich léčby. Autoři prezentují svoje poznatky o postupech při péči o pacienta s chronickou ránou a vymezují roli chirurga v procesu její léčby. Metody: Do pilotní randomizované prospektivní studie byli zařazeni 4 pacienti s chronickou ránou v oblasti bérce po předchozí neúspěšné konzervativní terapii, kteří byli indikováni k autotransplantaci kůže. Po předchozí aplikaci podtlakové terapie (VAC – vacuum asisted closer) byli pacienti podstupující kožní transplantaci pro chronickou ránu v oblasti bérce prospektivně randomizováni do dvou skupin. U jedné skupiny byla použita k podpoře hojení autologní plazma bohatá na trombocyty (PRP) a ve druhé – kontrolní – skupině byla provedena autotransplantace kůže standardně bez její aplikace. Výsledky: Ve skupině s použitím PRP bylo 15. pooperační den zhojeno v průměru 99 % ranné plochy. Ve skupině bez užití PRP bylo 15. pooperační den zhojeno v průměru 90 % ranné plochy. Ve skupině s použitím PRP došlo u pacientů k úplnému zhojení defektu za 15, resp. 20 dnů po výkonu. Ve skupině bez aplikace PRP došlo u jednoho pacienta k úplnému zhojení za 28 dnů a jednoho k úplnému zhojení nedošlo ani za 3 měsíce po operaci a přetrvávala zbytková nezhojená plocha 10 %. Závěr: V případě využití metod chirurgické léčby se hojí chronické rány během relativně krátké doby. Na základě prvních zkušeností lze předpokládat, že tuto dobu můžeme ještě zkrátit použitím PRP. Z užití chirurgické léčby a podpory hojení chronických ran pomocí PRP by mohli profitovat pacienti, u kterých selhaly jiné dostupné metody celkové i lokální terapie., Introduction: Current medical knowledge has provided us with a wide range of possibilities of treating chronic wounds. Over the recent decades, in particular, significant progress has been made in this field. The authors present an overview of current knowledge of chronic wound healing, pointing out the surgeon’s role in the process of chronic wound management. Using surgical therapy, we are able to heal a chronic wound in a shorter period of time, particularly if the treatment is accelerated by the application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a source of growth factors. Methods: The pilot randomized prospective study included four patients with chronic wounds of the lower leg after previous failure of conservative therapy who were indicated for skin transplantation. Following previous vacuum-assisted closure therapy, the patients undergoing skin transplantation were prospectively randomized into two groups. Autologous PRP was used in one of the groups and standard skin transplantation without PRP was performed in the other one. Results: In the PRP group, 99% of the wound areas were healed on the 15th day after the operation. In the other group, 90% of the areas were healed on the 15th day following the operation. In the PRP group, complete healing of the defect occurred in both patients at 15 and 20 days post-surgery. In the second group, one patient completely healed within 28 days; the other one was not fully healed even at 3 months post-surgery. Conclusions: Most patient groups at great risk may benefit from the method using PRP, as well as patients with chronic wounds who have failed conventional methods available for both general and local therapy. Optimalizace radiační ochrany byla vždy prioritou, zejména v pediatrii. Vzhledem ke stále rostoucímu počtu vyšetření je nutné se zaměřit na základní principy radiační ochrany - zdůvodnění a optimalizaci. Užitečným nástrojem optimalizace je stanovení místních diagnostických referenčních úrovní (MDRÚ). Další klíčovou roli v optimalizaci hraje nastavení a přizpůsobení radiologických přístrojů dětskému pacientovi. I když je každá modalita specifická, lze dodržet několik obecných pravidel. Zásadní je úprava expozičního nastavení, orgánové automatiky, případně použití manuálního režimu. U CT dávku významně ovlivňuje volba správného vyšetřovacího protokolu specifického podle věku, váhy nebo diagnózy. Optimalizace v radiační ochraně představuje komplex vzájemně na sebe navazujících kroků. I v pediatrii optimalizace neznamená, že dávka musí být minimální za každou cenu. Optimalizace znamená, že dávka musí být minimální pro získání kvalitní diagnostické informace., Optimization of radiation protection has always been a priority, especially in pediatrics. Due to the growing number of examinations it is necessary to focus on the basic principles of radiation protection - justification and optimization. A useful tool for optimaliza-tion is establishing local diagnostic reference levels (DRL). Another key role is the setting and adjustment of the radiological device used for children. Although each modality is specific, some general rules exist. The adjustment of exposure settings, automatic exposure control, or using the manual mode. In CT, the dose is significantly affected by the choice of the right examination protocol according to patient age, bodymass or diagnosis. Optimization of radiation protection is a complex of many interconnected steps. Optimization, also in pediatrics does not mean that the dose must be at minimum at all costs. Úvod: Tato práce prezentuje výsledky optimalizace rekonstrukčních parametrů, konkrétně počet iterací a počet subsetů OSEM algoritmu. Materiál a metody: Optimalizace byla založena na měření kontrastu a poměru signálu k šumu na tomografických rekonstrukcích NEMA Body Fantomu. Byla provedena akvizice čtyř sad projekčních dat se dvěma různými objemovými aktivitami na dvou různých kamerách. Pro nalezení optimálních hodnot byl proskenován parametrický prostor s použitím více než 500 rekonstrukcí s různými korekcemi a resolution recovery algoritmem (RR). Výsledky a závěr: S přihlédnutím k výpočetnímu času a opakované nestabilitě software byly jako nejlepší kombinace vyhodnoceny 4 iterace a 10 subsetů bez RR a 5 iterací a 10 subsetů s RR v matici 128 x 128, 3 iterace a 12 subsetů bez RR a 4 iterace a 12 subsetů s RR v matici 256 x 256., x, Pavel Karhan, Jaroslav Ptáček, Petr Fiala, and Literatura
