- Description:
- Twenty eight species of winter-active Heleomyzidae were collected during a long-term study in Poland. More than 130 samples of insects, including Heleomyzidae, were collected from the surface of snow in lowland and mountain areas using a semi-quantitative method. Lowland and mountain assemblages of Heleomyzidae recorded on snow were quite different. Heleomyza modesta (Meigen, 1835) and Scoliocentra (Leriola) brachypterna (Loew, 1873) dominated in the mountains, Tephrochlamys rufiventris (Meigen, 1830) mainly in the lowlands and Heteromyza rotundicornis (Zetterstedt, 1846) was common in both habitats. Heleomyzidae were found on snow during the whole period of snow cover, but the catches peaked from late November to the beginning of February. In late winter and early spring the occurrence of heleomyzids on snow decreased. Most individuals were active on snow at air temperatures between -2 and +2.5°C. A checklist of 78 winter active European Heleomyzidae is presented. Helomyza nivalis Wahlgren, 1918 is herein considered as a new junior synonym of Helomyza caesia Meigen, 1830, syn. n., Agnieszka Soszyńska-Maj, Andrzej J. Woźnica., and Obsahuje bibliografii

- Description:
A právě postojům české a polské veřejnosti k celému projektu, jejich aktuálnímu stavu a také možnému dalšímu vývoji se bude věnovat tento text., The text focuses on public opinion in Czech Republic and Poland relating to the plan of U.S. government to locate some parts of U.S. national missile defence in these countries. It describes and compares main shifts of developments of public attitudes in both countries to the project as well as to eventual referendum in this matter within the period up to the first half of 2007. The text shows main demographical, societal and political differences in both countries and discusses reasons and motives behind particular attitudes of Czech and Polish citizens., Jan Červenka., and Seznam literatury

- Description:
- Neospora caninum Dubey, Carpenter, Speer, Topper et Uggla, 1988 is a protozoan parasite originally reported as a major cause of bovine abortions worldwide. It is documented that the parasite is widely spread among non-carnivorous cervids. The purpose of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of N. caninum in moose (Alces alces Linnaeus). Blood samples collected in 2010 and 2012 in the northeastern Poland were tested for antibodies to N. caninum by agglutination test (NAT), a commercial competitive screening enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) and enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). Sera that gave a positive result were further investigated by western blot (WB) analysis to verify the presence of antibodies. Antibodies to N. caninum were detected in one of seven moose. The antibody titer was confirmed by NAT (1 : 1280), cELISA (I = 91%) and ELISA (OD = 0.736). The main immunodominant antigens detected by WB were 120, 70, 55, 35 and 16 kDa proteins. This is the first evidence of N. caninum seropositivity in moose living in a natural environment in Europe.

- Description:
- In order to identify population trends in Barbastella barbastellus in Poland we summarised results of long-term winter bat counts conducted between 1985 and 2004 in seven of the most important hibernacula of the species. The results show an upward trend in four of the sites while in the remaining four no trend was found. The numbers of barbastelles in Poland seem stable or even increasing. In Central Europe the species is not threatened as seriously as it is in Western Europe.

- Description:
- In the early 1990s, the Polish city of Przemyśl became known for the tensions existing between Roman Catholic Poles and Greek Catholic Ukrainians. These tensions derived from the indivisible links between nationalism, religion, and politics in southeast Poland. This article analyses how they are tied up in political rituals. The first two rites analysed commemorate the sufferings during the war, and by politicising collective memory they strengthen the sense of mutual antagonism between religious-national groups. The author's key argument is that given the important role religious identification plays in the individual's relationship to the nation, religion is becoming a crucial factor in any form of political change. The author also presents an example of reconciliation and how it is applied to collective memory on the basis of a multinational tradition in a third political ritual. In this case two religious-national groups share a 'multicultural' heritage, derived from their understanding of sharing a common tradition, from the majority's acceptance of the minority, and from the religious experience of reconciliation. Political change in either direction, that is, whether amidst the mobilisation of differences or the promotion of tolerant co-existence, proceeds through rituals, symbolic gestures, and narratives, in which religion and religious experts occupy a dominant or at least secondary role, and this has an effect on how tolerant a society emerges in the region.

10. Neotectonic activity interpreted from a long water-tube tiltmeter record at the SRC geodynamic laboratory in Książ, Central Sudetes, SW Poland

- Description:
- a1_A water-tube tiltmeter system composed of two perpendicular tubes was installed in the underground galleries of the Geodynamic Laboratory in the Książ Castle, Central Sudetes, in 2003. The partially filled water tubes are several tens of metres in length and have high-precision interferometric recording gauges at their ends. The recording gauges continuously measure water level changes in the tubes with single-nanometer accuracy which corresponds to 0.005 milliseconds of arc of plumb line variations. The tiltmeter has recorded several events of water level variations, with a magnitude of a few hundred micrometers and a duration of tens of days. The strongest water level variations were one order greater than variations caused by tidal phenomena and occurred in different months of a year, and hence are expected to have no seasonal origin. Because of the extremely large magnitude of the phenomenon and because time of duration of signals showed no seasonal characteristics, all external sources outside the bedrock space occupied by the instrument can also readily be precluded. Each of the recorded strong signals of water level variations consists of a symmetrical and an asymmetrical component. Because of the proportion of the water system to the large-scale geodynamic sources producing water level changes, all the external geodynamic reasons can generate only symmetrical signals in the tubes. The evidence indicates episodic tilting of the instrument itself or vertical displacements of any part of the tubes, which supports the notion of active bedrock deformation. The combination of symmetrical and asymmetrical signals implies that their source is within the bedrock space in which the instrument is embedded. The events of large water level variations can be explained by non-flat relative vertical displacement of the opposite ends of the tiltmeter tubes., a2_Asymmetrical signals are particularly pronounced in the tube named 03-04, and their magnitude suggests vertical displacement of part of the tube of the order of hundreds of micrometres. The repeatability, temporal irregularity, considerable duration time and high magnitude of the strong signals lead us to attribute them to the tilting of tiltmeter bedrock due to contemporary tectonic movements of the Książ Massif. The Książ Massif consists of a rigid rock mass of Famennian−Tournaisian conglomerates cut by several large and small faults. Rock compaction can be precluded. The massif is a prominent bedrock spur carved by a deeply incised river, and its geomorphic development seems to be related to major faults. Preliminary geological study has recognized strike-slip faults, thrusts and extensional fracture zones, some with an indication of recent activity. A few minor faults cross the bedrock under the tiltmeter geodynamic system. The tiltmeter is thus likely to be recording local signals of neotectonic activity., Marek Kaczorowski and Jurand Wojewoda., and Obsahuje bibliografii
