Mixed evergreen-deciduous broadleaved forest is the transitional type of evergreen broadleaved forest and deciduous broadleaved forest, and plays a unique eco-hydrologic role in terrestrial ecosystem. We investigated the spatiotemporal patterns of throughfall volume of the forest type in Shennongjia, central China. The results indicated that throughfall represented 84.8% of gross rainfall in the forest. The mean CV (coefficient of variation) of throughfall was 27.27%. Inter-event variability in stand-scale throughfall generation can be substantially altered due to changes in rainfall characteristics, throughfall CV decreased with increasing rainfall amount and intensity, and reached a quasi-constant level when rainfall amount reached 25 mm or rainfall intensity reached 2 mm h–1. During the leafed period, the spatial pattern of throughfall was highly temporal stable, which may result in spatial heterogeneity of soil moisture.
In the process of population screening for apo E gene polymorphism with the PCR and subsequent restriction analysis, we identified a female who demonstrated heterozygosity for an unusual restriction fragment caused by the loss of a CfoI restriction site. Sequence analysis of the apo E gene was performed and a carrier of the mutant allele with C - T substitution at cDNA position 3817 was identified, which caused an Arg136 - Cys change. The first-line relatives have been screened for this rare mutation with PCR and restriction analysis of PCR products. The complete lipoprotein parameters have been determined in the probands family. In the family, only one child had the same mutant allele as his mother had. The proband (7.49 mmol/l) with her siblings had hypercholesterolemia and a high body mass index (BMI 31.6 kg/m2). By contrast, her son had a normal lipid spectrum with normal BMI. We described the mutation apo E2* (Arg136 - Cys) in a family with elevated lipid levels, but there was no confirmation of the connection between this mutation and type III hyperlipoproteinemia or hyperlipoproteinemia at all. In the case of this mutation, other factors (mainly genetic) are important for the development of lipid metabolism disorders., J. A. Hubáček, J. Piťha, P. Stávek, G. Schmitz, R. Some reports indicate that mesophyll conductance (gm) to carbon dioxide varies greatly with the substomatal carbon dioxide concentration (Ci) during the measurement, while other reports indicate little or no change in g m with Ci. I used the oxygen sensitivity of photosynthesis to determine the response of gm to Ci over the range of about 100 to 300 μmol mol-1 Ci at constant temperature in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and soybean (Glycine max) grown over a range of temperatures and photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFD). In soybean grown and measured at high PPFD there was only a slight, approximately 15% decrease in gm with Ci over the range of 100 to 300 μmol mol-1. With lower PPFD during the measurement of gm, and especially with low PPFD during plant growth, there was a larger decrease in gm with Ci in soybean. In common bean, the same range in Ci resulted in about a 60% decrease in g m for plants grown and measured at high PPFD, with an even larger decrease for plants at low growth or measurement PPFD. Growth temperatures of 20 to 30°C had little influence on the response of gm to Ci or its absolute value in either species. It is concluded that these two species differed substantially in the sensitivity of gm to Ci, and that PPFD but not temperature during leaf development strongly affected the response of gm to Ci. and J. The article deals with Zdeněk Fibich’s (1850–1900) Variations in B major for piano which Vladimír Hudec, the author of the Tematický katalog Zdeňka Fibicha (Thematic Catalogue of Zdeněk Fibich’s Works), believed to have been lost. Its complete autograph, however, was recently discovered by the author of this article in the music collection of the Prague Hlahol Choral Society. The discovery of this composition, therefore, has substantially changed the existing knowledge of this work – as shown in the following paper, describing its context, such as the Fibich sources linked to it (including the Moser catalogue and the estate of Stanislav Kamenick˘). The article also points out the discrepancies found in the secondary literature.
Zaměříme se pouze na variační princip prvního řádu, s důrazem na mechaniku, kde na rozdíl od teorie pole závisí řešené úlohy pouze na jedné nezávisle proměnné, ve fyzice obvykle na čase., It is said that one of the characteristic features of physical theories is their beauty. Having in mind the "mathematical aesthetic appearance" one can say that the calculus of variations highly fulfils this requirement! It is also well known that correct physical theories (those verified experimentally), are often variational, i.e. based on a variational principle: classical mechanics, relativistic mechanics, quantum mechanics, classical electrodynamics, etc. We present, at a very basic level, the fundamental ideas and classical approaches of the calculus of variations, including examples of their use in geometry and physics. We focus on the first order variational principle, emphasizing mechanics, because contrary to field theories, the variational problems in mechanics depend on one independent variable only (usually time in physics)., Jana Musilová, Pavla Musilová., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and net photosynthetic rate (/’N) in the leaves, and plant dry mass (DM) in twelve cultivars of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) were measured 50, 70 and 90 d after sowing. At different sampling stages CA was strongly associated with PN and DM.
The aim of the present pilot pharmacogenetic study was to analyse quantitative effects of sulphonylurea treatment in addition to metformin on parameters of glycemic control with respect to CDKAL1 genotypes in patients with type 2 diabetes. Effect of 6-month sulphonylurea therapy on glycemic control according to CDKAL1 genotypes was evaluated in 101 patients with type 2 diabetes who failed to achieve glycemic control on metformin monotherapy. CDKAL1 rs7756992 polymorphism was determined by melting curve analysis of small amplicon following real-time PCR. After sulphonylurea treatment fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels were significantly different (p=0.045) among three CDKAL1 genotype groups (AA: n=49; AG: n=36; GG: n=16). In a dominant genetic model, carriers of the G-allele (AG+GG, n=52) achieved significantly lower FPG levels in comparison with patients with the AA genotype (6.90±1.08 vs. 7.48±1.12 mmol/l, p=0.013). Consequently, adjusted ΔFPG was significantly higher in the AG+GG compared to the AA group (1.48±1.51 vs. 1.02±1.33 mmol/l, p=0.022). Similar trend was observed for HbA1c levels, but the difference between the genotype groups did not reach the level of statistical significance. Relatively small number of included patients is a limitation of the present study. In conclusion, our results suggest that the magnitude of FPG reduction after 6-month sulphonylurea treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes is related to the variation in CDKAL1., Z. Schroner ... Variations in leaf gas-exchange characteristics, leaf pigment content, and other important leaf traits were investigated in seven wild Oryza species, five hybrids, and five improved varieties. The significant variations were observed in photosynthetic pigment contents amongst different species of Oryza. The mean chlorophyll (Chl) content was higher in O. sativa (varieties and hybrids), while O. eichengeri showed the lowest Chl content. The mean carotenoid (Car) content in O. sativa (varieties and hybrids) was higher than in other wild rice species. O. eichengeri and O. barthii had significantly lower Car contents than other rice species. Significant differences were noticed in the rate of photosynthesis (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), transpiration rate (E), internal CO2 concentration (Ci), specific leaf mass (SLM), and leaf thickness amongst different Oryza species. The mean PN was the highest in O. nivara followed by O. eichengeri. The mean PN was the lowest in O. glumaepatula, which was lower than that of cultivated varieties and hybrids of O. sativa. High rates of photosynthesis were observed in O. nivara (ACC. No. CR 100097), O. rufipogon (ACC.No. CR 100267), and O. nivara (ACC.No. CR 100008). The O. nivara and O. rufipogon genotypes with high PN might be used in rice improvement programmes for an increase of leaf photosynthesis in rice. Multiple correlations performed between different gas-exchange characteristics and other physiological traits revealed that the rate of photosynthesis was not dependent on the leaf pigment content or the leaf thickness. A strong positive correlation between PN and the PN/Ci ratio, which represents the carboxylation efficiency, indicated that the observed variation in PN was not based on pigment content or other leaf traits. and T.
