The article discusses the methodology employed in the excavation of the outer fortified area of the Early Medieval stronghold at Budeč. This methodology made it possible to establish in the stronghold’s western part, at the “Na kašně” location (field excavation in 1981–1986 and in 1989), the stratigraphic succession of anthropogenic activities, which helped to clarify the character, interconnection and dating of development forms of the outer fortifications and settlement in the studied part of the Budeč foregrounds. and Článek seznamuje s metodikou výzkumu vnějšího opevněného areálu raně středověkého hradiště Budeč, která umožnila v jeho západní části, v poloze Na kašně (terénní výzkum v letech 1981–86, 1989) stanovit stratigrafickou posloupnost antropogenních aktivit, a vedla tak k objasnění charakteru, provázanosti a datování vývojových forem vnějšího opevnění a osídlení ve zkoumané části budečského předhradí.
Nové nálezy patrně importovaného nákončí pochvy meče rozšiřují dosud známou škálu těchto artefaktů z českého území. and An openwork bronze scabbard chape was found on the slopes of Pákova Hill in the Central Bohemian Uplands (cadastral territory of Lhota u Medvědic); based on exact parallels from Kelheim, it can be dated to the 11th century and/or beginning of the 12th century. Another fragment was found in Roudnice in the district of Hradec Králové, and another in Ždánice na Moravě, which featured slightly different openwork decoration. The new finds of apparently imported scabbard chapes increase the hitherto known scale of these artefacts in Bohemia.
V tomto příspěvku prezentujeme okolnosti a kontext nálezu, výsledky mikroskopického pozorování, popis amuletu a výsledky materiálových analýz, včetně vytvoření modelových vizualizací struktury olověné tabulky, překlad a komentář latinského textu a jeho zasazení do širšího kontextu analogických nálezů z Evropy. Prováděné analýzy zároveň otevírají problematiku nedestruktivního zkoumání artefaktů výjimečných svým provedením. Obvyklé postupy rozvinutí olověného plechu jsou invazivní a neumožňují zachovat autenticitu předmětu v jeho původní složené podobě. and A lead amulet with an engraved Latin inscription was discovered in 2014 during regular investigations of the ploughed land and eroded wooded hillsides of the multicultural hillfort at the Na Dřevíči site (Rakovník district). Without parallels thus far in the Bohemian environment, the artefact was identified on the basis of comparisons with finds of lead tablets with Latin texts from German and Scandinavian sites of the 11th–13th century, which were usually unfolded after their discovery for the purpose of reading. This article presents the circumstances and context of the find, the results of microscopic observations, the description of the amulet and the results of material analyses, including the creation of model visualisations of the structure of the lead tablet, a translation and commentary of the Latin text and its placement into the broader context of parallel finds from Europe. The conducted analyses also raise the issue of the non-destructive investigation of singular finds. The usual methods for unfolding the lead sheet are invasive and do not permit the preservation of the authenticity of the artefact in its original folded form.
