Zlomky skleněných nádob z jímky svědčí o úrovni stolování ekonomicky nikoli nadprůměrné pražské domácnosti i o sortimentu dutého skla na pražském trhu ve 14. století. and On a lot in the northern part of the New Town in Prague, the remains of a partly sunken building from the 12th century, or the start of the 13th century, were excavated. The ever increasing numbers of finds of such features are evidence of the intensity of settlement in this part of the early medieval Prague agglomeration, only in this case dating is possible on the basis of a vessel, containing offerings, set in the floor. The authors situate the demise of the building within the context of events that affected this area in the 1230s, in connection with the sovereign’s plan to establish the (first) Town of Prague. Another unearthed feature was a cesspit: its content corresponds with contemporary reports about sudden formation of these outskirts during the first half of the 14th century. Fragments of glass vessels from this cesspit testify to the standard of dining in the household, which for Prague standards was not above average, and to the variety of blown glass in the Prague market in the 14th century.
Text upozorňuje na nezbytnost analýz zemin z výplně pyrotechnologických objektů, jež mohou identifikovat konkrétní železářské či jiné výrobní aktivity. and On 12th–13th centuries ironworks in Knovíz, Central Bohemia. This work is an evaluation of finds uncovered during rescue excavations at the village of Knovíz in Central Bohemia. One of the 14 sunken features from the 12th to the first half of the 13th century, and several finds from their fills, point to local ironwork activity. The geological features of the micro-region and finds from nearby medieval mine shafts allow us to interpret the find in Knovíz as a workplace aimed at the extraction of iron ore nearby the mining venue; it may also have been involved in ensuing metallurgy activities. This work points to the importance of analyses of the soil from the fill of the pyrotechnological features, which helps to identify the specific ironwork, or other, activity.
V jádru města Trutnova byla odkryta terénní deprese nejasného původu, jejíž výplň poskytla materiál pro archeobotanický rozbor. Nejstarší vrstvy zásypu, datované do doby kolem přelomu 13. a 14. stol., odpovídají době změny vlastníka i statutu města, a patrně i změn urbanistických. Archeobotanické analýzy jednotlivých zásypových vrstev dovolují sledovat vývoj synantropní vegetace v okolí zkoumané polohy a změny v hospodaření s přírodními zdroji v exponované poloze podhůří Krkonoš v rozmezí 14. až 16. století. Nálezy naklíčených obilek ječmene dokládají kontinuální výrobu piva nejpozději od přelomu 14. a 15. stol. v místě, kde písemné prameny ze 16. stol. dokládají městský pivovar. and The fill of a terrain depression of unknown origin discovered in the centre of Trutnov provided material for archaeobotanical analysis. The oldest layers of the fill, dated to the turn of the 14th century, correspond to the period of change in the town’s owner and charter, and evidently to urbanistic changes as well. Archaeobotonical analyses of the individual fill layers make it possible to track the development of synanthropic vegetation in the area around the studied site and changes in the utilization of natural resources in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mts. between the 14th and 16th centuries. A find of germinated grains of barley is evidence of the continual production of beer at least from the end of the 14th century at a site where written sources from the 16th century document the town brewery.
Nově identifikovaná kategorie středověkých artefaktů z českých archeologických fondů představuje jeden z atributů zacházení s drahými kovy. Šest dosud evidovaných předmětů datovatelných do raného středověku pochází z různých kontextů sociálních (hrad, sídelní aglomerace, ves) i archeologických (hrob, sídlištní objekt, hradiště). Autoři zdůrazňují nezbytnost potvrzení přítomnosti stop zkoušeného kovu chemickými mikroanalýzami, a to nejen pro interpretaci artefaktu, ale i pro poznání prostředí, které manipulovalo s drahými kovy i s podvrhy, a v neposlední řadě pro upřesnění názorů na dovednosti středověkých metalurgů. and A newly identified category of medieval artefacts from Czech archaeological inventories represents one indicator of the manner in which precious metals were handled: six objects date from various social (castle, settlement agglomeration, village) and archaeological (grave, settlement feature, hillfort) early medieval contexts. The authors emphasize the necessity of confirming the presence of traces from the tested metal by chemical microanalysis, not only for interpreting the artefacts themselves, but also for understanding the environment in which both precious and spurious metals were handled.
