- Description:
- Archaeology has a great deal of experience with how the misinterpretation of finds creates a false image of the past. The main reason for this is down to ideologically-conditioned stereotypes. The paper descri-bes one such case involving hundreds of thousands of finds of one type of artefact, commonly classified as whetstones, pendants, amulets, etc., from the Chalcolithic up to the Early Middle Ages. The article emphasises that although touchstones from ancient burials had already been identified using an electron microscopy half a century ago, the interpretation of these finds corresponding to the paradigm from the early 19th century remains popular to this day. For the chemical microanalysis of metal traces preserved on the surface of these stone artefacts, samples were selected from Russian, Slovakian, Swedish and Ukrainian sites, from the Hallstatt period up to the Early Middle Ages, with special regard for their previous interpretation history. However, the main aim is to point out the symbolic role of tools used to test the value of precious metals outside the grave context. Finds from wet environments in particular reveal the continuity of the behaviour of European over the millennia, regardless of the current ideology or cult, and the diversity of artefacts that were, and still are, chosen as a medium for votive behaviour. and Archeologie má mnoho zkušeností s tím, jak chybná interpretace nálezů vytváří falešný obraz minulosti.

- Description:
- This study evaluates MODIS snow cover characteristics for large number of snowmelt runoff events in 145 catchments from 9 countries in Europe. The analysis is based on open discharge daily time series from the Global Runoff Data Center database and daily MODIS snow cover data. Runoff events are identified by a base flow separation approach. The MODIS snow cover characteristics are derived from Terra 500 m observations (MOD10A1 dataset, V005) in the period 2000–2015 and include snow cover area, cloud coverage, regional snowline elevation (RSLE) and its changes during the snowmelt runoff events. The snowmelt events are identified by using estimated RSLE changes during a runoff event. The results indicate that in the majority of catchments there are between 3 and 6 snowmelt runoff events per year. The mean duration between the start and peak of snowmelt runoff events is about 3 days and the proportion of snowmelt events in all runoff events tends to increase with the maximum elevation of catchments. Clouds limit the estimation of snow cover area and RSLE, particularly for dates of runoff peaks. In most of the catchments, the median of cloud coverage during runoff peaks is larger than 80%. The mean minimum RSLE, which represents the conditions at the beginning of snowmelt events, is situated approximately at the mean catchment elevation. It means that snowmelt events do not start only during maximum snow cover conditions, but also after this maximum. The mean RSLE during snowmelt peaks is on average 170 m lower than at the start of the snowmelt events, but there is a large regional variability.

- Description:
- Evropské druhy raků jsou stále vzácnější. Nemalou vinu na tom mají především raci introdukovaní ze Severní Ameriky a s nimi související šíření račího moru. Počet nepůvodních druhů v Evropě již dvakrát převyšuje původní račí faunu a v důsledku vysazování akvarijních druhů do volné přírody můžeme očekávat nálezy dalších račích přivandrovalců., European native crayfish species are on the decline. One of the key reasons is the introduction of invasive crayfish from North America and the associated spread of crayfish plague. The number of alien crayfish in Europe is already more than double the number of native species, and, due to the release of aquarium-kept specimens, we can expect discovery of additional ones., and Antonín Kouba, Adam Petrusek.

17. Postmodernismus a střední Evropa

- Subject:
- Europe, modernity, postmodernity, nihilism, the future, truth, metaphysics, and objectifying thinking
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- The text printed here was originally a contribution that Hejdánek made in 1991 to a Dutch magazine for a thematic issue dedicated to the relationship of Central and Eastern Europe to postmodernism. In his piece, Hejdánek starts from questions that revolved around the challenges the European continent was facing in that moment, and rejects the idea that the countries of the former Soviet bloc should simply assimilate themselves to Western Europe. Central Europe, in his opinion, was not, in opposition to the West, returning to the abandoned ideals of modernity. At the same time, Western postmodernism, in Hejdánek’s understanding, did not represent the overcoming of the modern era, but only its final phase. Following after Nietzsche, Hejdánek sees the core of modernity as lying in nihilism, the result of its devaluation of all existing values. He interprets this idea as an insight that values cannot be considered to have existence, because we cannot encounter them among varied objectifiable entities. However, it is possible to approach values differently, as Hejdánek suggests in the case with human rights: these should not be understood as a property of humans that belongs to them from birth, for it is also necessary to guarantee the rights of people who have not yet been born. With the perspective of a new, viable concept of human rights, Hejdánek connects the Hebrew idea of truth as an actuality that stands above all that exists, and points to its life and historical significance as they are present in Central Europe (especially in the Czech lands)., Text z r. 1991 představuje příspěvek do tematického čísla nizozemského časopisu věnovaného vztahu střední a východní Evropy k postmoderně.

- Description:
- Soricinia tripartita Żarnowski, 1955 is redescribed on the basis of specimens from the type host Sorex araneus Linnaeus from Lithuania, Latvia and Russia (Republic of Karelia and Republic of Komi - a new geographical record) as well as from Sorex satunini Ognev and Sorex volnuchini Ognev from Russia (Nalchik Area in the Caucasus Mountains). The strobilar morphology of S. tripartita is compared with that of other hymenolepidid cestodes of shrews with an unarmed scolex and serial development of proglottides in the strobila, i.e. species of Mathevolepis Spassky, 1948, Ditestolepis Soltys, 1952, Spasskylepis Schaldybin, 1964, Ecrinolepis Spassky et Karpenko, 1983 and Diorchilepis Lykova, Gulyaev, Melnikova et Karpenko, 2006. It was noted that S. tripartita does not correspond to any of the known genera. The following unique characters are found for S. tripartita: heteronomous serial strobilation with one or two sterile proglottides at the end of each series in the strobila and the whole copulatory part of the vagina covered with numerous, fine spines. Therefore, the new genus Gulyaevilepis is erected, with Gulyaevilepis tripartita (Żarnowski, 1955) comb. n. as its type and only species. Since the type material of Soricinia tripartita is not known to exist, a neotype from the same host species and from a locality close to the type locality is designated.
