ABSTRAKT Cieľ: Zámerom štúdie bolo identifikovať štatisticky významné rozdiely v úrovni emočnej inteligencii (EI) u študentov ošetrovateľstva vzhľadom k demografi ckým údajom (vek, dĺžka štúdia) a zároveň zistiť či úroveň EI študentov ošetrovateľstva ovplyvňuje ich záujem o problematiku geriatrického ošetrovateľstva. Metódy: Výskumu sa zúčastnilo 86 univerzitných študentov denného bakalárskeho štúdia odboru ošetrovateľstvo. Na meranie úrovne EI boli využité dotazníky reprezentujúce rôzne chápania EI. Prostredníctvom SIT-EMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding) bola zisťovaná EI ako schopnosť. EI ako črta bola zisťovaná dotazníkom SEIS(Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale). Dotazníkom vlastnej konštrukcie ESE-GP (Emotional self-effi cacygeriatric patient) bola zisťovaná úroveň EI študentov v procese starostlivosti o geriatrických pacientov. Výsledky: Nezistili sme štatisticky významné rozdiely v úrovni EI študentov z hľadiska demografi ckých údajov (vek a ročník štúdia). Medzi úrovňou EI (SEIS)a perspektívnym záujmom študentov venovať sa geriatrickému ošetrovateľstvu bola zistená štatisticky významná súvislosť (p < 0,05). Závery: Zistené výsledky môžu uplatniť najmä inštitúcie poskytujúce ošetrovateľské vzdelávanie, ktorým odporúčame zamerať pozornosť na rozvoj EI v procese vzdelávania študentov ošetrovateľstva., Aim: The aim of the study was to identify statistically significant differences in levels of emotional intelligence (EI) of nursing students in relation with demographic data (age and year of study) and also determine whether the EI level of nursing students affects their interest in the issue of geriatric nursing. Methods: The sample consisted of 86 full-time undergraduate university students of nursing. To measure the level of EI, questionnaires representing diff erent understanding of EI were used. EI as an ability was determined by the SIT-EMO (Situational Test of Emotional Understanding). EI as a trait was evaluated by the questionnaire SEIS (Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale). The questionnaire of own construction ESE-GP (Emotional self-effi cacygeriatric patient) assessed the level of EI of students in the process of caring for geriatric patients. Results: There were no statistically signifi cant diff erences in the students’ level of EI in terms of demographic data (age and year of study). A statistically signifi cant association (p < 0.05) was found between the students’ level of EI (SEIS) and their promising interest to pursue geriatric nursing. Endometriální stromální nádory představují skupinu benigních, low grade maligních i high grade maligních nádorů. Benigní variantou je endometriální stromální uzel, pro který je typická absence angioinvaze a ohraničený expanzivní růst bez invaze do myometria, či její pouze ojedinělý výskyt nepřesahující 3 mm. Low grade maligní nádory představuje endometriální stromální sarkom (dříve označovaný jako low grade endometriální stromální sarkom), který je tvořen buňkami stejného charakteru jako endometriální stromální uzel, typickým a diagnostickým rysem je však infiltrativní růst a/nebo přítomnost angioinvaze. High grade sarkomy jsou podle současné WHO klasifikace nádorů ženského genitálu z roku 2003 označovány jako nediferencované endometriální sarkomy, jedná se však o heterogenní skupinu zahrnující monomorfní variantu (dříve označovanou jako high grade endometriální stromální sarkom) a pleomorfní variantu. V následujícím textu je probrána klasifikace endometriálních stromálních nádorů a jejich základní morfologické, imunohistochemické a genetické znaky., Endometrial stromal tumors represent a group of benign, low grade malignant and high grade malignant neoplasms. Benign tumors of this group are called endometrial stromal nodules. These tumors are characterized by expansile, noninfiltrative margins and an absence of angioinvasion. In rare occurrences, protrusions of the tumor up to 3 mm can be present. Low grade malignant tumors, called endometrial stromal sarcomas, consist of tumor cells similar to those of endometrial stromal nodules. However, diagnostically typical feature is the more extensive myoinvasion than is allowable in an endomterial stromal nodule and/or the presence of angioinvasion. High grade sarcomas are, according to the current WHO classification of tumors of female genital tract (2003), called undifferentiated endometrial sarcomas. Úvod: Naše výsledky byly zhodnoceny za účelem posouzení bezpečnosti a efektivity endoskopické endonazální techniky v léčbě kraniofaryngeomů. <p align="">Materiál a metody: Od roku 2008 bylo endoskopicky endonazálně operováno14 pacientů s typickým supraselárním extraventrikulárním kraniofaryngeomem. Soubor se skládá z 11 mužů a 3 žen (věk 17–60 roků, průměrný věk 38 let). Jedenáct pacientů mělo předoperační deficit zorného pole v rozsahu od malého deficitu ve vnějším kvadrantu až k slepotě jednoho oka a těžkému deficitu druhého oka. Byla použita endoskopická endonazální technika čtyř rukou s peroperační 3,0 T MR. <p align="">Výsledky: V sedmi případech bylo dosaženo radikální resekce. Ve čtyřech případech byla provedena resekce subtotální, ve dvou případech resekce parciální. V jednom případě se jednalo o vypuštění kraniofaryngeomové cysty. V resekci po iMR bylo pokračováno ve třech případech. K úpravě zorného pole došlo v pěti případech. Pooperační diabetes insipidus se nově objevil ve třech případech. Reoperace pro únik mozkomíšního moku byla nezbytná ve třech případech. <p align="">Závěr: Endoskopické techniky v léčbě kraniofaryngeomu jsou bezpečné. Nicméně jsou spojeny s vyšším výskytem pooperačního úniku mozkomíšního moku ve srovnání s transkraniálními přístupy., Introduction: We reviewed our results in order to evaluate safety of endoscopic endonasal technique in the treatment of craniopharyngiomas. <p align="">Material and methods: Since 2008, endoscopic endonasal approach was used in 14 patients with typical suprasellar extraventricular craniopharyngioma. This cohort consisted of 11 males and three females (age 17 to 60 years, average age 38 years). Eleven patients had preoperative visual field deficit ranging from small deficit in the outer quadrant to blindness on one eye and a severe deficit of the second eye. Endoscopic endonasal four hands technique was used with intraoperative 3.0 T MRI. <p align="">Results: In seven cases, the radical resection was achieved. Subtotal resection was performed in four cases. The resection was partial in two cases. In one case, a cyst was drained. Resection after iMRI was performed in three cases. Visual field deficit improved in five cases. Postoperative diabetes insipidus developed in three cases. Reoperation for CSF leakage was necessary in three cases. <p align="">Conclusion: Endoscopic technique in the treatment of craniopharyngioma is safe. Cíl: Cílem je zhodnotit zkušenosti s léčbou aneurysmatu podkolenní tepny stentgraftem. Metodika: V období od června 2011 do října 2014 jsme na našem pracovišti léčili 18 aneurysmat podkolenní tepny u 14 pacientů pomocí stentgraftu. Jednalo se o 13 mužů a jednu ženu ve věku od 50 do 90 let. Věkový průměr byl 70 let, medián 69,5 let. Léčili jsme tři aneurysmata o průměru menším než 2 cm, 12 aneurysmat o průměru 2-5 cm a tři výdutě o průměru větším než 5 cm. Výsledky: Pacienti byli sledováni 2-35 měsíců, průměrná doba sledování byla 13, 4 měsíce, medián 10 měsíců. Technická úspěšnost byla 100 %. Primární průchodnost byla 78 %, sekundární průchodnost byla 94 %. Podle Kaplanovy-Maierovy analýzy byly pravděpodobnost primární průchodnosti za 6 a 12 měsíců po implantaci stentgraftu stejná, a to 75,8 % (95 % CI: 54,6-97,0 %), pravděpodobnost sekundární průchodnosti za 6 a 12 měsíců 94,4 % (95 % CI: 83, 8-100 %). Závěr: Endovaskulární léčba stentgraftem je možnou alternativou chirurgické léčby aneurysmatu podkolenní tepny. Endovaskulární léčba je jednoduchá, bezpečná a účinná., Aim: To evaluate the experience in the treatment of popliteal artery aneurysm with stentgraft. Method: From June 2011 to October 2014, we were treated 18 aneurysms of the popliteal artery in 14 patients using the stentgraft at our department. There were 13 men and one woman aged from 50 to 90 years. The mean age was 70 years. We treated three aneurysms with a diameter of less than 2 cm, 12 aneurysms 2-5 cm in diameter and 3 aneurysms with a diameter greater than 5 cm. Results: Patients were followed-up 2-35 months, mean follow-up was 13.4 months. The technical success rate was 100%. Primary patency was 78%, secondary patency was 94%. According to Kaplan-Maier analysis the probability of primary patency at 6 and 12 months after stentgraft implantation was 75.8 % (95% CI: 54.6 to 97.0%), the probability of secondary patency at 6 and 12 months was 94.4% (95% CI: 83,8-100%). Conclusion: Endovascular treatment with stentgraft is a possible alternative of surgical treatment of popliteal artery aneurysm. Úvod: Je uváděno, že prevalence neurodegenerativních onemocnění v malých evropských komunitách izolovaných od okolí je vyšší ve srovnání s běžnou populací. Tentýž jev jsme pozorovali v malém, relativně izolovaném regionu jihovýchodní Moravy. Cíl: Zjištění prevalence neurodegenerativního parkinsonizmu v izolovaném regionu jihovýchodní Moravy. Metodika: Byla použita metoda třífázového vyšetření. V první fázi byly do ordinací praktických lékařů distribuovány dotazníky, které byly vyplněny všemi pacienty, kteří se z jakéhokoliv důvodu dostavili v průběhu tří měsíců do ordinace praktického lékaře. Ve druhé fázi byly u pozitivních respondentů příznaky parkinsonizmu objektivizovány vyšetřením edukovaným ambulantním neurologem. Ve třetím stupni byli respondenti, u kterých byly při skríningovém vyšetření příznaky parkinsonizmu objektivizovány, přijati k detailnímu vyšetření za hospitalizace v terciárním centru pro diagnostiku a léčbu neurodegenerativních onemocnění. Výsledky: Celková prevalence parkinsonizmu v populaci starší 50 let byla 2,8 % (95% CI: 2,2-3,4); prevalence v populaci 50-64 let byla 1,9 % (95% CI: 1,2-2,5); a v populaci nad 65 let byla 4,06 % (95% CI: 2,9-5,1). Byly získány tři velké rodokmeny s patrnou autozomálně dominantní dědičností parkinsonizmu. Závěr: Zjištěná prevalence byla překvapivě vysoká a podstatně odlišná od hodnot prevalence publikovaných v jiných evropských zemích. Vzhledem k charakteristice regionu je předpokládán vliv genetických faktorů. Současný výzkum je zaměřen na genetické pozadí a DNA analýzu probandů z rodokmenů, ve kterých byla identifikována autozomálně dominantní dědičnost parkinsonizmu. We recently observed this phenomenon in a small specific region of south-eastern Moravia. Objective: To assess the prevalence of neurodegenerative parkinsonism in an isolated region with a rural population in south-eastern Moravia. Methods: A three-stage method of data collection was used. In the first phase, originally designed questionnaires were distributed to general practitioners and completed by all patients who visited them for any reason during a three-month period. In the second phase, positive responders were examined by trained primary care neurologists. Finally, the diagnosis was confirmed or excluded by a movement disorders specialist. Results: The overall prevalence in the population older than 50 years of age was 2.8% (95% CI: 2.2-3.4); the prevalence in the population from 50 to 64 years was 1.9% (95% CI: 1.2-2.5), and it was 4.06% (95% CI: 2.9-5.1) in the population over 65 years of age. Three large families with an autosomal-dominant inheritance patterns of parkinsonism were identified. Conclusions: The prevalence rates were surprisingly high; they substantially differed from the published prevalence rates in other European countries. Due to the characteristics of the region, we expected a particular impact of genetic factors, most probably the autosomal-dominant inheritance of parkinsonism. Motivation Until recently it was considered that 65 years is cutoff for defining patients as elderly, but newer reports indicate that this age limit shift to 70 years of age. Elderly patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer, associated comorbidities and poor performance status represent a specific population and a challenge for use of chemotherapy. Primary aim was to evaluate the impact of mono therapy with oral etoposide on overall survival in elderly patients (≥ 70 years of age) with advanced non small cell lung cancer and poor performance status (PS) ≥ 2 (clinical stage IIIb and IV ), and as well to evaluate tolerability of this therapy. Secondary aim was to evaluate response rate. Methods Retrospectively, medical records of 79 female and male patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer and poor performance status treated with oral etoposide (2x25 mg 20 days/10 days pause) in period from 2007 till 2010 were checked for relevant data. Data regarding demographics, performance status, overall survival, response rates and drug toxicity were collected. For statistical analysis we used Pearson chi-square test, T-test, Kaplan-Meier product limited method and Cox regression. Results Median overall survival (OS) was 31 weeks, in patients with PS 2 overall survival was 34 weeks, and in group with PS 3 was only 24 weeks. Partial response was registered in 20.2% of patients, stable disease in 41.85 % and disease progression in 38% of patients. Treatment was well tolerated, febrile neutropenia and toxic deaths were not registered. Toxic effects didn't have statistically significant influence on OS. V současné době je věnována familiární hypercholesterolemii (FH) po letech opět zvýšená pozornost. Je tomu tak především proto, že se toto geneticky podmíněné onemocnění stává cílem velmi účinných nových hypolipidemik, PCSK-9 inhibitorů, lomitapidu a mipomersenu. Předložené sdělení se zabývá popisem 2 souborů nemocných (vždy ve své době z největších na světě), před 50 lety a nyní. I když přímé statistické srovnání není možné, lze přeci jen najít v klinickém obrazu FH jisté vývojové změny. Faktem však je, že základní charakteristika FH se zásadně nezměnila. V biochemickém obrazu dominuje těžká izolovaná hypercholesterolemie s hodnotami celkového cholesterolu 9–10 mmol/l, s hodnotami LDL-cholesterolu 7–8 mmol/l a s normálními hodnotami triglyceridů. Je zajímavé, že právě triglyceridy se při srovnání s dobou před 50 lety významně zvyšují a dosahují hraničních hodnot. Hladiny HDL-cholesterolu jsou normální. Manifestace ICHS ve věku od 40 let u mužů a od 50 let u žen není výjimkou (ojediněle se vyskytují i případy infarktu myokardu již ve 3. dekádě života). Klasickou klinickou manifestací FH je xantomatóza. Pravděpodobně v důsledku časné detekce nemocných s FH a účinné agresivní léčby se se šlachovými xantomy, s xanthelasma palpebrarum a arcus lipoides setkáváme méně často než před desítkami let. Obezita, diabetes mellitus (DM) ani hypertenze nepatří mezi typické klinické příznaky FH., Currently, the familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) rises the interest. The reason is that this genetic disorder is targeted by newly emerged and highly effective hypolipidemic agents, PCSK-9 inhibitors, lomitapid and mipomersen. Present paper discusses 2 patient study groups, before 50 years and nowadays. Although direct statistical analysis is impossible some changes in clinical features of FH might be found over the course of the time. In fact, the basic FH characteristic has not changed dramatically. Severe isolated hypercholesterolemia with total cholesterol 9–10 mmol/l, LDL-cholesterol 7–8 mmol/l and normal values of triglycerides dominates in laboratory analysis. Interestingly, the values of triglycerides increase and almost reach the pathological range in comparison to the values from the period 50 years ago. The values of HDL-cholesterol are normal. Manifestation of CHD in male patients over 40 years of age and in female patients over 50 years of age is not exceptional (rarely occur cases of myocardial infarction in third decade of age). Typical clinical manifestation of FH is xanthomatosis. The early detection and aggressive treatment in FH patients cause that xanthoma tendinosum, xanthelesma and arcus lipoides are less frequent as decades ago. Úvod: Terapie ran kontrolovaným podtlakem (NPWT) je efektivní metodou lokální terapie širokého spektra nehojících se ran. V současnosti je využívána především u hospitalizovaných pacientů, pro systematické použití v ambulantním režimu nejsou v České republice dostupná klinická data. Metody: V prospektivní nerandomizované studii autor porovnává klinickou a nákladovou efektivitu léčby ulcerací na dolní končetině u diabetiků kontrolovaným podtlakem (NPWT) ambulantně versus za hospitalizace. Cílem sledování je stanovit účinnost NPWT v ambulantním režimu na základě hodnocení vývoje spodiny rány, kvantifikovat předpokládanou redukci celkových nákladů na terapii a porovnat efektivitu obou režimů navzájem. Do sledování bylo zařazeno 36 hospitalizovaných (NPWT systémy RENASYS GO nebo PICO) a 28 ambulantních pacientů (PICO). NPWT byla ukončena v momentě, kdy byla spodina rány zcela pokryta granulační tkání nebo při vzniku vážných komplikací léčby. Hodnotili jsme velikost ulcerace, charakter její spodiny, počet NPWT výměn, její celkovou délku, intenzitu bolesti, přítomnost komplikací a náklady na terapii. Výsledky: Sledování prokázalo porovnatelnou klinickou účinnost NPWT v ambulantním režimu (n=28) versus za hospitalizace (n=36, statisticky nesignifikantní rozdíly v hojení ulcerací verifikované na základě vývoje spodiny rány a redukce plochy ulcerací v čase), stejné riziko komplikací spojených s NPWT (statisticky nesignifikantní rozdíly ve funkčnosti obou technologií a ve výskytu komplikací vzniklých v průběhu sledování) i obdobné dlouhodobé výsledky (statisticky nesignifikantní rozdíly v počtu amputací). Celkové náklady na ambulantní terapii ran byly statisticky signifikantně nižší (16 700 Kč versus 36 000 Kč, p 0,001), stejně tak průměrné náklady na 1 den podtlakové terapie (817 Kč versus 3400 Kč, p 0,001). Závěr: Analýza klinických výsledků jednoznačně prokázala, že ambulantní podtlaková terapie ulcerací syndromu diabetické nohy (metoda PICO) má stejnou efektivitu jako podtlaková terapie za hospitalizace. V ambulantním provozu je NPWT levnější, převazy jsou vnímány méně bolestivě a NPWT je pacienty lépe snášena., Introduction: The negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is an effective local treatment method of many non-healing wounds. NPWT is routinely used for inpatient treatment in the Czech Republic; however, no clinical data is available for systematic outpatient treatment. Methods: The prospective non-randomized study was used to compare the clinical impact and cost-effectiveness of diabetic leg-ulcer and foot-ulcer negative pressure treatment in outpatient and inpatient settings. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of outpatient NPWT on the basis of wound bed evaluation, to detect and quantify pre-expected reductions in the total costs of the therapy, and to compare the efficacy of both treatment options. Enrolled subjects included inpatients (n=36, NPWT systems RENASYS GO or PICO) and outpatients (n=28, PICO system). NPWT was concluded when the wound bed had been totally covered by granulation tissue, or when serious health problems occurred. We monitored the ulcer area, wound bed trait, number of NPWT dressing changes, length of NPWT, intensity of pain (VAS scale), presence of complications, and treatment costs. Results: We found comparable clinical efficacy of outpatient (n=28)/inpatient (n=36; statistically non-significant differences in healing of ulcers verified based on wound bed development and reduction of ulcer areas in time) NPWT, the same risk of complications associated with NPWT (statistically non-significant differences in the function of both technologies and in complications developed during follow-up) as well as similar long-term results (statistically non-significant differences in the count of amputations). The total costs for outpatient wound treatment were statistically significantly lower (EUR 600 versus EUR 1300, p=0.001), and so were the average one-day-NPWT costs (EUR 30 versus EUR 120, p=0.001). Conclusion: We demonstrated that outpatient diabetic-foot-ulcer NPWT provided the same clinical efficiency as inpatient NPWT, while outpatient NPWT was less expensive, less painful and better tolerated than inpatient NPWT., and J. Účel studie: Hlavním cílem studie bylo odhadnout dosažení patologické kompletní odpovědi nemocných trpících lokálně pokročilým adenokarcinomem rekta po předoperační (neoadjuvantní) chemoradioterapii (CHRT) s využitím individuálních farmakokinetických parametrů 5-fluorouracilu (5-FU). Sekundárním cílem bylo hodnocení bezpečnosti a snášenlivosti léčby. Tato otevřená prospektivní studie podporovaná grantem IGA NS 9693–04/2008 zahrnula 34 dospělých s lokálně pokročilým karcinomem konečníku ozařovaných do celkové dávky 50,4 Gy ve 28 frakcích po 1,8 Gy 10–15 MV paprsky v režimu 5 + 2 (5 dní radioterapie, 2 dny volno) s kontinuálně podávaným 5-FU v i. v. infuzi 200–1000 mg/m2 po dobu 4–5 týdnů kontinuálně 7denní infuzí. Chirurgická resekce následovala 4–6 týdnů po ukončení CHRT a po klinickém restagingu. Hodnocena byla klinická a patologická odpověď na chemoradioterapii pomocí zobrazovacího (MR) a histopatologického vyšetření, vyjádřená v % jako reziduální choroba. Výsledky a závěr: Výsledek dokládá vztah mezi velikostí kumulativní dávky 5-FU a kumulativní AUC 5-FU (r = 0,61, p < 0,001). Podobný vztah byl prokázán mezi kumulativní AUC 5-FU a metabolickým poměrem (poměr dosažených plazmatických koncentrací neaktivního metabolitu dihydrofluorouracilu (5-FUH2) ku koncentracím 5-FU, r = -0,80, p < 0,0001). Kumulativní AUC korelovala se stupněm odpovědi na léčbu (r = – 0,53, p < 0,005) a určovala také stupeň toxicity léčby. Pokud bychom chtěli dosáhnout kompletní patologickou odpověď, pak by denní dávka 5-FU měla být u středně rychlého metabolizéra >350 mg/m2 a kumulativní AUC1–39 dní > 50 mg/L*h. U žádného z nemocných nebyla nalezena mutace v genu pro dihydropyrimidindehydrogenázu (DPD) a multidrug resistance-1 protein (MDR-1), přesto byla nalezena vysoká interindividuální variabilita v dosažených plazmatických koncentracích 5-FU, a to i s ohledem na cirkadiální rytmus kinetiky léčiva., Background and Purpose: The main goal of the present study was to estimate the early patients´response following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CHRT) based on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with curative aim in relation to plasma concentrations and pharmacokinetic parameters of 5-FU. Secondary objectives included evaluation of the safety and tolerability of the regimen. Patients and Methods: This open prospective study enrolles 34 adult patients with locally advanced rectal cancer, who received 5-FU 200 -1000 mg/m2 administered as a continuous i. v. infusion over 4–5 week and radiotherapy delivered with 10–15 MV photon beams at 1.8 Gy/fraction up o 50.4 Gy in 28 daily fractions for 5 days a week. Surgical resection with curative aim followed 4–6 weeks after the completion of CHRT and clinical restaging. Pathologic response evaluation and the rate of tumor regression was evaluated using tumor downstaging by MR, histopathological staging, and expressed as residual disease (%). Results and Conclusion: The outcome evidenced the correlation between the cumulative 5-FU dose and cumulative AUC of 5-FU (r = 0.61; p < 0.001). The similar relationship was demonstrated between the cumulative AUC and metabolic ratio (the plasma concentration od inactive metabolite dihydrofluotouracile 5-FUH2 to 5-FU; r = -0.80; p < 0.0001). The cumulative AUC was correlated with tumor regression rate (r = -0.53; p < 0.005) and determined toxicity grade. To reach pCR, the daily dose of 5-FU in patient with average metabolic ratio of 5-FUH2/5-FU should be >350 mg/m2 and the cumulative AUC1–39days > 50 mg/L*h. INTRODUCTION: Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) became standard of care for patients with multiple myeloma (MM) under the age of 65 years. We routinely perform ASCT for newly diagnosed MM since 1996 in our department. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed all 285 transplants in 185 patients done for MM from January 1996 till December 2010. We analyzed overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) regarding conditioning, stage, complete or very good partial remission (CR, VGPR) achievement, renal impairment, single vs. double transplant. RESULTS: Estimated 10-years survival of the whole set of patients is 39% (median survival 95 months). Patients with renal impairment show same OS as those without (p = 0.22). Patients show similar overall survival and event free survival regardless of type of transplant. We observed better outcome in terms of overall survival in patients treated with new drugs (p = 0.0014). Reaching CR or VGPR was not translated into better OS (p = 0.30) and EFS (p = 0.10). Also stage of the disease and whether single or double transplant was used did not make any significant difference in the outcome. CONCLUSION: Stem cell transplantation greatly improved outcome of patients with MM. Poor outcome of allogeneic transplantation in our group of patients is related to high transplant related mortality (20% vs. 0%) and unexpected high relapse rate. There is a trend towards better survival, when new drugs are incorporated at any time in the course of the disease.
