- Description:
Závěrem si pokládají otázky, zda se výsledky projektu a srovnání celoživotního vzdělávání lékařských poradců v Belgii a posudkových lékařů u nás, odrazí v současně probíhající reformě postgraduálního vzdělávání posudkových lékařů., Authors present most relevant data about health care in Belgium, sick leave and disability assessment and medical advisors training in Belgium based on Flamish-Czech project, backed up by Flamish government and MoLSA called „Training for the assessment service doctors in compliance with the implementation of Guidelines 2005/36/ES and the assessment service organization“. In conclusion they ask a question whether the project results and comparison of medical advisors training in Belgium and assessment service doctors in our country are being considered and implemented in the current reform of assessment service doctors postgraduate training., Rostislav Čevela, Libuše Čevelová., and Lit.: 2

30094. Potamogeton schweinfurthii A. Benn., a new species for Europe
- Creator:
- Kaplan, Zdeněk
- Type:
- article and TEXT
- Subject:
- aquatic plants, distribution range, first record, herbarium, Mediterranean region, phytogeography, Potamogetonaceae, and taxonomy
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- The occurrence in the Mediterranean part of Europe of the African species Potamogeton schweinfurthii is recorded for the first time. So far, this native but overlooked species has been found on five major Mediterranean islands: Corsica, Sardinia, Malta, Kefallinía (Ionian Islands, Greece) and Crete. The species is most similar and presumably closely related to the mainly Eurasian P. lucens, with which it has been partly confused. The nomenclature and a description of P. schweinfurthii are provided, and its taxonomy and how it differs from similar taxa discussed. All known localities are listed, together with voucher specimens preserved in the major European herbaria. A distribution map of P. schweinfurthii in the Mediterranean region is presented.

30095. Potamogeton ×fluitans (P. natans × P. lucens) in the Czech Republic

- Kaplan, Zdeněk, Plačková, Ivana, and Štěpánek, Jan
- Type:
- article and TEXT
- Subject:
- Potamogeton, hybridization, isozymes, electrophoresis, and enzyme activity
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- Evidence from isozyme electrophoresis confirmed previous hypothesis on the occurrence of interspecific hybridization between Potamogeton natans L. and P. lucens L. formulated on the basis of morphology and stem anatomy. Isozyme phenotypes of the morphologically intermediate plants were compared with those obtained from the putative parents growing in the same locality. P. natans and P. lucens differed consistently in at least 12 loci and possessed different alleles at 7 loci. The hybrid had no unique alleles and exhibited an additive “hybrid” isozyme pattern for all 7 loci that could be reliably analysed and where the parents displayed different enzyme patterns. Both true parental genotypes were detected among samples of plants of P. lucens and P. natans from the same locality. The hybrid plants represent a recent F1 hybrid generation resulting from a single hybridization event. Consistent differences in enzyme activity between submerged and floating leaves of P. natans and P. ×fluitans were observed in all interpretable enzyme systems.

- Description:
- Background: There is emerging molecular evidence concerning the modification of miR expression pattern after the treatment with chemopreventive agents. We investigated whether a potential chemopreventive agent called "Procont" deriving from a biological system has a positive effect on the DMBA induced dysregulation of let7 a, miR21 and miR146a miRNAs. Materials and Methods: CBA/CA H2k inbred mice were fed by Procont for 7 days before the intraperitoneal injection of DMBA. After one week of the beginning of Procont diet we analized the let7a, miR21, miR146a gene expression in vital organs of mice. Results: The Procont feeding significantly decreased all of the investigated miRNA expression compared with either the mice on a normal diet in the control group or mice were exposed to DMBA alone. Conclusion: The results indicate that "Procont" diet has a potential chemopreventive effect in mice exposed to DMBA., Mónika Szirmai, Krisztina Juhász, András Bertha, Katalin Gombos, Katalin Gőcze, Ingrid Magda, Péter Révész, István Ember, and Literatura

- flounder blood parasites, Paralichthys orbignyanus, haemogregarine, Haemogregarina platessae, Desseria platessae, Haemohormidium terraenovae, seasonal prevalence, polluted and non-polluted sites, southern Brazil, and statistical analyses
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- Flounder, Paralichthys orbignyanus (Valenciennes), were captured in polluted and non-polluted sites within the Patos Lagoon Estuary, southern Brazil, over four seasons. Blood films showed a high prevalence of infection with a haemogregarine, or mixed parasitaemias of this and an organism resembling Haemohormidium terraenovae So, 1972. Haemogregarine gamont stages conformed to existing descriptions of Desseria platessae (Lebailly, 1904) Siddall, 1995 from flatfishes, but intraerythrocytic division of meronts was observed, leading to the recommendation for nomenclatural correction, placing the haemogregarine in the genus Haemogregarina (sensu lato) Danilewsky, 1885. Statistical analyses suggested that although sample sizes were small, infections with meront stages, immature and mature gamonts were all influenced by site, and possibly therefore, by pollution. Season also appeared to determine likelihood of infection with meronts and immature gamonts, but not mature gamonts, while adult fish gender apparently affected infection with immature and mature gamonts, but not meronts. The H. terraenovae-like organism exhibited unusual extracellular forms and did not match closely with the type description of H. terraenovae; precise identification was therefore difficult. Data analyses suggested that parasitism by this organism was influenced by site and fish gender, since females and males from non-polluted water were infected, but only females from the polluted site. Season was also important and significantly more adult fish of both sexes were infected with this parasite in the Brazilian summer and autumn, compared with winter and spring. Finally, these appeared to be the first observations of Haemogregarina platessae, and possibly H. terraenovae, from the southern hemisphere.

30100. Potential factors affecting the body weight of bluegill Lepomis macrochirus in Lake Biwa, Japan

- article, model:article, and TEXT
- Subject:
- morphological variation, length-length relationship, length-weight relationship, adaptation, and thermal condition
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- Lake Biwa consists of a large, deep north basin and a small, shallow south basin, and the body weights of bluegill Lepomis macrochirus in the north basin tend to exceed those in the south basin. To elucidate the cause of this phenomenon, the physical characteristics of the fish in the two basins were compared. The fish in the north basin had larger gonads and stomachs than did the fish in the south basin, but the contributions of these organs to the body weight were very small. The body weights of the fish in the north basin still exceeded those in the south basin after the subtraction of the weights of the gonad and stomach. Bluegill in the north basin had deeper bodies than those in the south basin. The heavier body tissues of bluegill in the north basin appear to be an adaptive response to the colder environment. Given the flourishing of largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides in the littoral zone in the north basin, the deeper bodies of bluegill there may contribute to their increased survival rate by reducing their vulnerability to predation by largemouth bass.
