Tato studie je recenzní statí ke knize: Christian FLECK, A Transatlantic History of the Social Sciences: Robber Barons, the Third Reich and the Invention of Empirical Social Research. London: Bloomsbury Academic 2011. Studie se rovněž zaměřuje na styl psaní, jenž se uplatňuje v současných textech o dějinách nadací, zejména ve srovnání s dosud převažujícím důrazem na studium intelektuálních dějin sociálních věd., This study reviews the book: Christian FLECK, A Transatlantic History of the Social Sciences: Robber Barons, the Third Reich and the Invention of Empirical Social Research. London: Bloomsbury Academic 2011. It concentrates mainly on one part of Fleck’s account: on the analysis of the ways foundations and philanthropic organizations profiled and shaped the research agenda and the politics of knowledge in the social sciences. It is demonstrated how the definition of science promoted in the 1920’s by major American philanthropic foundations fundamentally changed the very idea of research and produced many institutional innovations. The relation of philanthropy and social scientific research is pursued both in a general sense, in terms of formative ideas in, uencing the development of social sciences and the actual scientific practice, and in relation to various national research traditions, the role of individual foundations and the activities of foundations aiming to promote their conception of scientific research. A special attention is paid to the Rockefeller Foundation, as its concept of “realistic” research significantly in, uenced the institutional history of the social sciences. This study also focuses on the style of writing, which is employed in contemporary texts on the history of foundations, especially in comparison with the still prevailing accent on the study of social science’s intellectual history., and Jan Balon.
Jako klíčový moment se tedy ukáže možnost práce se sociálně vědními obory pomocí jemných nástrojů, které Kvasz vyvinul na vědách exaktních., The aim of the article is to provide a critical analysis of predictions that concern the future of social sciences suggested by Ladislav Kvasz as a part of his project “formal epistemology”. In relation to the issue of paradigm change Kvasz’s model of dynamics in the scientific field offers an alternative to Kuhn’s theory of scientific revolutions. The article inquires the nature of the mechanism of changes in the field and what can therefore be predicted from such model – especially concerning social sciences. This is achieved with the help of Michel Foucault’s historical method, which emphasizes the need to avoid false continuities in explaining the development of a scientific discipline, which is going through deep discontinuities on its epistemic level. Special attention is given to the connection between predictions and the possibility of distinguishing epistemologically and sociologically graspable features of science. The adequacy of working with social sciences using tools Kvasz had developed focusing on formal disciplines is therefore identified as a decisive point., and Markéta Patáková.
Veblenův klíčový motiv "sebe-konfrontace" společnosti je srovnán s Ogburnovým motivem "využitelnosti" vědění ve vztahu k úvahám o literárních technologiích vědy., The article analyses the theories of cultural lag elaborated by Thorstein Veblen and William F. Ogburn. In particular, it pursues two motives: how the relation between social science and its audience had been implied in their respective approaches, and how the “lag” argument had been employed in their view of the “purpose” of social science. It is demonstrated here that the essentially identical theory had been transformed in their “argumentative strategies” and “styles of writing” to fit their distinctive (critical and instrumental) concepts of social science. Veblen’s key motif of “selfconfrontation” of society is contrasted with Ogburn’s motif of “applicability” of knowledge with regard to reflections on literary technologies of science., Jan Balon., and Obsahuje bibliografii
