The aim of this study is to show how the emotions - in particular the so-called "passions of the soul" - were understood and interpreted in the medical thinking of the late Enlightenment. We focus chiefly on three innovations in 18th century medicine: the "discovery" of the neuro-cerebral system (the ’birth’ of neurology); the search for the "seat" of illnesses in particular organs (the "birth" of pathological anatomy); and the gradual separation of the body and the soul as objects of medical enquiry (the "birth of psychiatry). We consider whether, and to what extent, these innovations contributed to the breakdown of the "old" diagnostic paradigms of the "passions of the soul", or whether in fact they helped to maintain them. We also discuss to what extent the consideration of these passions fostered a new approach to the relationship between the body and the soul in Enlightenment medicine. Depression is a complex disorder related to chronic inflammatory processes, chronic stress changes and a hippocampal response. There is a increasing knowledge about the role of glial cells in nutrient supply to neurons, maintenance of synaptic contacts and tissue homeostasis within the CNS. Glial cells, viewed in the past as passive elements with a limited influence on neuronal function, are becoming recognized as active partners of neurons and are starting to be discussed as a possible therapeutic target. Their role in the pathogenesis of depressive disorders is also being reconsidered. Attention is devoted to studies of the different types of antidepressants and their effects on transmembrane signaling, including levels of α subunits of G proteins in C6 glioma cells in vitro as a model of postsynaptic changes in vivo. These models indicate similarities in antidepressant effects on G proteins of brain cells and effector cells of natural immunity, natural killers and granulocytes. Thus, an antidepressant response can exhibit certain common characteristics in functionally different systems which also participate in disease pathogenesis. There are, however, differences in the astrocyte G-protein responses to antidepressant treatment, indicating that antidepressants differ in their effect on glial signalization. Today mainstream approach to neurobiological basis of depressive disorders and other mood illnesses is linked to abnormalities in transmembrane signal transduction via G-protein coupled receptors. Intracellular signalization cascade modulation results in the activation of transcription factors with subsequent increased production of a wide array of products including growth factors and to changes in cellular activity and reactivity., M. Kazuistika poukazuje na potencionální riziko paklitaxelu ve smyslu psychotropního nežádoucího účinku a nutnost mezioborové spolupráce, konkrétně pak s psychiatrem. Časná symptomatická psychofarmakologická léčba umožnila bezproblémové dokončení adjuvantní chemoterapie., The authors report on a case of drug-induced hallucinatory syndrome after paclitaxel infusion in a 42-year-old woman with breast carcinoma treated with adjuvant chemotherapy AC-T. This case report highlights the potential risk of paclitaxel causing hallucinatory syndrome. At the same time it indicates the need to cooperate with the psychiatrist. Termín „psychomotorické“ má svůj původ v Německu. Wilhelm Griesinger, jeden ze zakladatelů neuropsychiatrie, použil tento termín poprvé roku 1844. V průběhu let se v jednotlivých zemích vyvinuly odlišné koncepce psychomotoriky ve výchově a psychomotoriky jako terapeutického prostředku. Základ obou zaměření je stejný. Pohybem se snažíme vyvolat předem definovanou změnu prožívání a tomu odpovídajícího chování. Předem definovanou změnu je možno navodit pomocí znalostí funkcí mozku. Je však nutno počítat s různou úrovní motivace k této změně a různou úrovní předchozí zkušenosti. Cílem této studie je upozornit na myšlenky, z nichž současná psychomotorická terapie čerpá., The term „psychomotor“ has its origin in Germany. Ciele: Cieľom práce bolo posúdiť spirituálnu tieseň u pacientov s depresívnou poruchou a identifikovať vzťah medzi takouto tiesňou a psychickým distresom. Metodika: Spirituálna tieseň bola posúdená Škálou životnej zmysluplnosti a subškálou existenciálna pohoda zo Škály spirituálnej pohody. Psychický distres bol posúdený dotazníkom SCL 90. Výsledky: Zistili sme, že pacienti s depresiou sú rizikoví z hľadiska prežívania spirituálnej tiesne. Zistili sme početné negatívne signifikantné vzťahy medzi znakmi spirituálnej tiesne a dimenziami psychického distresu. Vyššia miera spirituálnej tiesne bola spojená s vyšším psychickým distresom. Záver: Napriek absencii v ošetrovateľských plánoch je spirituálna tieseň závažný problém. Mimo iného prispieva k zintenzívneniu psychických problémov u pacientov s depresiou. Nedostatočná diagnostika a riešenie tejto diagnózy znižuje kvalitu poskytovanej ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti., Aim: The aim of work was to assess spiritual distress in patients with depressive disorder and to identify the relationship between such distress and psychological distress. Methods: To assess spiritual distress, we used Halama′s Life Meaningfulness Scale and as a sub-scale Existential well-being from Spiritual Well-being Scale. Psychological distress was assessed by SCL 90 questionnaire. Results: We found that patients with depression are at risk of experiencing spiritual distress. We found numerous significant negative relationships between variables of spiritual distress and dimensions of psychological distress. Higher level of spiritual distress was associated with higher psychological distress. Conclusion: Despite the absence of diagnosis Spiritual distress in a nursing care plan, it still remains a serious problem, which can lead to increased mental health problems in patients with depression.
