Zaniklá středověká vesnice Ve spáleném u Vyžlovky (střední Čechy) se vyznačuje výraznými terénními relikty, které už přes sto let přitahují archeologický zájem. Její úplný a trvalý zánik spadal do průběhu 14. až počátku 15. století. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována zranitelnosti sídelních areálů závislých na málo vydatných vodních zdrojích. and The deserted medieval village of Ve spáleném, near Vyžlovka (central Bohemia), is marked by distinct surface relics that have been attracting the interest of archaeologists for over a century. Its total and permanent desertion took place in the course of the 14th century to the beginning of the 15th century. The village was located at a source basin nearby a watershed, and four reservoirs in the area served to secure an adequate supply of water. One of the dams of these reservoirs is extraordinary in a morphological sense, leading to deliberations on the existence of a simple water mill. The said dam underwent geodetic-topographical surveying, geophysical surveying and archaeological excavation. Special attention was paid to the fragile nature of settlement areas dependent on insufficient water resources.
Vedle kolekce keramických i nekeramických artefaktů tak průzkum přinesl zcela nová data, která přispívají k poznání celkového charakteru využití vnitřní plochy oppida v období LT C2–D1. and The article deals with an evaluation of analytical surface collections conducted on the grounds of the České Lhotice oppidum in 2007. Connected to a similar investigation performed in 2004, the work focussed on the ‘central area’, which could not be studied in previous years due to technical reasons. In addition to a collection of ceramic and non-ceramic artefacts, the investigation also produced entirely new data contributing to the understanding of the general character of the use of the internal area of the oppidum in stages LT C2–D1.
Kusé údaje v písemných pramenech naznačují, že dvůr ve 14. stol. přináležel k majetkům kláštera klarisek v nedalekém Panenském Týnci. and The current notion of the construction appearance of large farmyards in the Middle Ages is based primarily on the results of surface surveys (geodetic-topographic) of these sites, which were abandoned at the latest in the 16th century and subsequently covered by forests. Also the Rychvald farmyard in the central part of the Džbán Downs was transformed into an archaeological monument this way. The distinct ruins of the stone walls can still be used to determine the expanse of the right-angled enclosure surrounding the centre, the basic layout of the development and even the ground plans of certain buildings. Brief information in written sources indicates that in the 14th century the farmyard belonged to the Poor Clare monastery in nearby Panenský Týnec.
Kromě několika pravěkých předmětů je kolekce tvořena řemeslnickými a zemědělskými nástroji, předměty osobní potřeby a militárii datovanými do středověku a novověku. Nálezová situace chronologicky značně heterogenního souboru ukazuje, že situaci musíme interpretovat jako důsledek dlouhodobých aktivit souvisejících s komunikací, která dnes v terénu nezanechala žádné viditelné stopy. and The metal detector aided surface survey of the up to the present sterile area of Nová Sídla (Svitavy district, Pardubice region) yielded an assemblage of almost a hundred metal artefacts. Apart from several prehistoric items, the assemblage consists from craft and agricultural tools, articles of personal use, and militaria, dated to the Middle Ages and the Modern Period. No intact archaeological situations were detected during the survey, and the objects were found in the subsoil or in the forest humus layer. The depositional context of the chronologically very heterogeneous assemblage shows that it must be interpreted as a result of longterm activities related with communication that left no visible vestiges in the terrain into the present.
Vnitřní prostor tábora, vymezený prudkými svahy a pásy valů, je z větší části pokryt těsně vedle sebe situovanými jámami – pozůstatky provizorních příbytků. Pravoúhlé zemní bašty v týlu ležení svědčí o vyspělé strategii husitů už na samém počátku válečných let. S vysokou výpovědní hodnotou terénních reliktů tábora dlouhodobě kontrastovala jejich nedostatečná dokumentace. Zde prezentovanému srovnání s analogickými lokalitami proto předcházelo zevrubné geodetické zaměření veškerých patrných objektů. and Following a brief siege in the winter of 1420/1421, the Hussite army forced the garrison of Nový hrad (New Castle) at Kunratice (Prague 4), loyal to King Sigismund, to capitulate. Terrain remains of the attackers’ walled camp in the immediate foregrounds of the castle have been preserved in remarkable condition. The interior space of the camp demarcated by steep slopes and rows of ramparts is covered for the most part with densely placed pits representing the remains of provisional dwellings. The rectangular earth bastions at the rear of the camp testify to the advanced strategy employed by the Hussites at the very outset of the war. For years, the lack of documentation on the camp stood in stark contrast to the high testimonial value of the terrain remains. The comparison with parallel sites presented in the article was therefore preceded by the comprehensive geodetic survey of all known features.
Výzkum mikroregionu, vyvolaný stavbou dálnice, byl zaměřen především na charakter a proměny sídelní struktury. Během několika let se intenzivním povrchovým průzkumem a sběry, částečně v kombinaci s leteckou prospekcí, s využitím výsledků plošného odkryvu a drobných záchranných akcí, podařilo dobře zmapovat území o ploše ca 7,5 km2. Prokázáno bylo osídlení neolitické, eneolitické, středo–, mlado– a pozdně bronzové, halštatské, časně laténské, mladohradištní a vrcholně středověké. Společně se staršími nálezy v této oblasti vzniká poměrně ucelený přehled vývoje nejen samotného pravěkého a středověkého osídlení, ale i archeologických aktivit a poznání daného území. Tento mikroregion se tak stal jednou z nejlépe archeologicky zmapovaných částí krajiny na Plzeňsku. and Research into this microregion, made necessary by a highway building project, aimed primarily at determining the character of, and changes in, its settlement structure. Over several years intensive surface survey and artefact collection, partly carried out in conjunction with aerial prospection, together with the partial results of open area excavations and minor rescue interventions, made it possible to map out an area of some 7.5 km2. Settlement was demonstrated in the Neolithic, Eneolithic, Early, Middle and Late Bronze Ages, Hallstatt period, Early La Tène, Early Slavic („Hillfort“) period and High Middle Ages. Taken together, the earlier finds occur in the area form a coherent overview of the development not only of the Prehistoric and Medieval settlements themselves, but also of archaeological activity and an understanding of the given territory. This microregion has thus become one of the archaeologically mapped landscapes in the Plzeň (Pilsen) region.
