Justifying the subordinated position of women in society by appealing to biological sex diferences has a long history and is popular today, too. In this article the author aims to reconstruct some counter-arguments against such kind of legitimisation of gender inequality developed by Harriet Taylor Mill and John Stuart Mill in the 19th century. These philosophers articulated the problem of women’s subjection, and in line with their liberal position argued for women’s liberation on the grounds of freedom and social justice as well as on those of ethical utilitarism. The author argues that the arguments of these philosophers merit attention even today., Mariana Szapuová., Poznámky na s. 12, Nesrovnalost křestního jména Mariana Szapuová, Obsahuje bibliografii, and Resumé o klíčová slova anglicky na str. 3
Martina Klicperová-Baker uvádí a diskutuje knihu Threat to Democracy (Hrozba demokracii) politického psychologa F. M. Moghaddama. Další diskuse těchto témat je velice vítána. and Since politics is to a great degree applied psychology, psychologists should get involved in the analysis of the current democratic decline and reversal of this trend. Martina Klicperová- Baker introduces and discusses the book Threat to Democracy by a political psychologist, F. M. Moghaddam. Many of its useful concepts will very likely enter the vocabulary of the discipline, e.g., the springboard model to dictatorship, sacred groups, fractured globalization, and political plasticity. Also, Moghaddam’s circular explanation of history (peoples who free themselves from a dictatorship often find themselves trapped by another dictator) and his suggestion to replace multiculturalism with a unifying humanistic orientation (omniculturalism) are very topical. The article is devoted to discussion and elaboration of the main concepts of the book. Klicperová-Baker augments the springboard model of dictatorship theory and converts it into a diagram; she expands definition of populism into a prosocial/antisocial dichotomy; she supplements the “sacred groups” (religion, ethnicity, and race) used by dictators with an additional category of “dark sacred groups” which result from fear and hatred and lead to a negativistic counter-identification (racism, misogyny, malevolent religious self-righteousness, a priori antigovernmental rebelliousness, unsubstantiated climate denial, homophobia). The main point of argument is the concept of freedom (attached and detached freedom) and applicability of Fromm’s “escape from freedom” to the current situation. It is concluded that if Fromm’s idea is not consensual, perhaps the notion of “escape from democracy” is. Further discussion of the matter is very welcome.

Freedom or control of how we act is often and very naturally understood as a kind of power-a power to determine for ourselves how we act. Is freedom conceived as such a power possible, and what kind of power must it be? The paper argues that power takes many forms, of which ordinary causation is only one; and that if freedom is indeed a kind of power, it cannot be ordinary causation. Scepticism about the reality of freedom as a power can take two forms. One, found in Hume, now often referred to as the Mind argument, assumes incompatibilism, and concludes from incompatibilism that freedom cannot exist, as indistinguishable from chance. But another scepticism, found in Hobbes, does not assume incompatibilism, but assumes rather that the only possible form of power in nature is ordinary causation, concluding that freedom cannot for this reason exist as a form of power. This scepticism is more profound-it is in fact presupposed by Hume’s scepticism-and far more interesting, just because freedom cannot plausibly be modelled as ordinary causation., Svoboda nebo kontrola toho, jak jednáme, je často a velmi přirozeně chápána jako druh moci - moc určovat si, jak jedeme.
Teprve prostřednictvím této optiky pak lze chápat správně hodnotu lidského života a hodnotu lidských činů. and What is the value of human life? This article points to human value as the value of God's image. It deals with the issue of the sanctity of human life, the problem of the death and the eternal life, the question of human freedom and free agency. Theological view finds out the conscience as an essential element of understanding of the moral truth about the world, a law written by God. This is a judgment of reason throw which the human being recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act. The author points to the relationship between reason and faith and cognizable God's truth through human reason and human conscience. Only through this lens can be understood correctly the value of human life and the value of human acting.

This polemical reflection critically investigates the likewise polemical article by Ladislav Hohoš, published in the Filosofický časopis, No.5/2013: “Is social critique exclusively a question of neo-Marxism?”. This piece was itself responding to my polemical study “Social criticism as a problem of neo-Marxism” (Filosofický časopis, No.2/2013). I take Hohoš’s main objections against my polemic in turn, and I reply to them. To this end, I focus on Hohoš’ reproduction, and partial reinterpretation, of Marx’s ideological doctrine of historical materialism, on the basis of which he presents his standpoint. In my polemic I point to the overall unsustainability of his objections, demonstrating the unsustainability of the foundations of Marxist doctrine itself., Miloslav Bednář., and Obsahuje poznámky a bibliografii
Má-li právní norma omezující pravidla, ba dokonce pravidla deliktní, není možné je číst extenzivně, aniž by byly na stůl položeny jasné důvody, že je taková argumentace hodnotově nutná a správná. and The article attempts to describe the influence of Viktor Knapp on commercial law. It shows that the civilistic interest of Viktor Knapp and his subsequent shift to the axiomatic predetermination of private law, necessarily affected other sectors of civil law. Although the law in question was far from the scope of Knapp’s attention, his general considerations are nonetheless reflected in it. The Law on Corporate Groups is a manifestation of the autonomy of will; the law regulates only its possible negative impacts, respectively tries to avoid them. Individual liberty must remain protected
even within corporate groups, especially if the economic reality of concern is useful, but also binding. If the legal system contains restrictive rules, even tort rules, they can’t be interpreted broadly, without clear reasons that such arguments are necessary and proper being put on the table.
