Introduction: Obstruction of the appendiceal lumen is the primary cause of appendicitis. The most common causes of luminal obstruction are fecaliths and lymphoid follicle hyperplasia. Additionally, bacterial infections or enteric and systemic viral diseases can cause a reaction of the lymphoid follicle. Case presentation: An 11-year-old boy with active phase of chickenpox presented on our Pediatric surgery emergency department under the impression of acute appendicitis. An appendectomy was performed on the same day. An inflamed and edematous retrocecal appendix was removed during surgery. Histological investigation of the appendix revealed transmural acute inflammation, with diffuse proliferation of inflammatory cells, with characteristic intranuclear inclusion surrounded by a clear halo. The PCR analysis of peripheral blood and appendix tissue specimen revealed positive VZV DNA. Endometriální stromální nádory představují skupinu benigních, low grade maligních i high grade maligních nádorů. Benigní variantou je endometriální stromální uzel, pro který je typická absence angioinvaze a ohraničený expanzivní růst bez invaze do myometria, či její pouze ojedinělý výskyt nepřesahující 3 mm. Low grade maligní nádory představuje endometriální stromální sarkom (dříve označovaný jako low grade endometriální stromální sarkom), který je tvořen buňkami stejného charakteru jako endometriální stromální uzel, typickým a diagnostickým rysem je však infiltrativní růst a/nebo přítomnost angioinvaze. High grade sarkomy jsou podle současné WHO klasifikace nádorů ženského genitálu z roku 2003 označovány jako nediferencované endometriální sarkomy, jedná se však o heterogenní skupinu zahrnující monomorfní variantu (dříve označovanou jako high grade endometriální stromální sarkom) a pleomorfní variantu. V následujícím textu je probrána klasifikace endometriálních stromálních nádorů a jejich základní morfologické, imunohistochemické a genetické znaky., Endometrial stromal tumors represent a group of benign, low grade malignant and high grade malignant neoplasms. Benign tumors of this group are called endometrial stromal nodules. These tumors are characterized by expansile, noninfiltrative margins and an absence of angioinvasion. In rare occurrences, protrusions of the tumor up to 3 mm can be present. Low grade malignant tumors, called endometrial stromal sarcomas, consist of tumor cells similar to those of endometrial stromal nodules. However, diagnostically typical feature is the more extensive myoinvasion than is allowable in an endomterial stromal nodule and/or the presence of angioinvasion. High grade sarcomas are, according to the current WHO classification of tumors of female genital tract (2003), called undifferentiated endometrial sarcomas. Copepods of the genus Achtheinus Wilson, 1908 (Pandaridae) are parasites of elasmobranchs that attach to their fins, gill slits and around the nostrils. Specimens of Achtheinus pinguis Wilson, 1912 were collected and examined using histology and scanning electron microscopy to determine their way of attachment to the host and the possible effect on the host. They insert their antennae deep into the dermis of the shark's skin, which causes the most damage due to possible tissue compression and/or fibrosis as well as rupture of the connective tissue. Additionally, the presence of the copepod on the skin causes cell erosion of the epidermal cells and thus reduces the number of epidermal layers. The maxillipeds are used to attach to the placoid scales that cover the shark's skin and probably serve to keep the copepod and inserted antennae in position. This is accomplished by the insertion of the placoid scales into the flaccid corpus of the maxillipeds. Studiu vlastností karcinomu prsu je tradičně věnována velká pozornost. V minulosti byl nejdůležitějším faktorem rozhodujícím o indikaci adjuvantní terapie stav axilárních lymfatických uzlin. V současné době je však větší důraz kladen na vlastnosti primárního tumoru. Základní léčebná strategie se stanovuje již v době stanovení diagnózy maligního onemocnění. Proto je velmi důležité znát výpovědní hodnotu, spolehlivost a úskalí vyšetření jednotlivých prognostických a prediktivních markerů karcinomu prsu. Tato studie se zabývá srovnáním vlastností nádoru stanovených před operací s těmi, které jsou k dispozici po operaci. Jedná se o retrospektivní analýzu údajů z lékařské dokumentace 411 pacientek s časným primárním karcinomem prsu léčených primárním chirurgickým výkonem. Statistickou analýzou byla prokázána dobrá nebo velmi dobrá shoda mezi předoperačním a pooperačním stanovením u invazivity nádoru, histologického typu, gradingu, proliferační aktivity a zastoupení hormonálních receptorů a receptorů HER-2/neu. Naopak měření velikosti tumoru a stanovení počtu ložisek tumoru vykazovalo špatnou korelaci. Největší rozdíly jsme popsali u žen s předoperačně histologicky diagnostikovanými karcinomy in situ, a to jak pro určení velikosti nádoru a počtu nádorových fokusů, tak i pro samotné stanovení invazivity. Jako velmi nespolehlivé bylo třeba označit předoperační vyšetření stavu axilárních lymfatických uzlin – falešná negativita tohoto vyšetření přesahovala 92 procent., Great attention is traditionally given to the investigation of breast cancer characteristics. In the past, axillary lymph node status was the most important factor for the decision on adjuvant therapy. At present, higher accent is being laid on the characteristics of the primary tumor. Basic treatment strategy is being set just at the time of setting the diagnosis of malignant disease. For this reason it is very important to know the validity, reliability and pitfalls of the examinations of breast cancer prognostic and predictive markers. This study deals with the comparison of breast cancer characteristics set at the time of diagnosis with those verified histologically after surgery. This retrospective trial analyses data from medical records of 411 patients with early primary breast cancer treated with primary surgical procedure. Statistical analysis proved good or very good agreement between preoperative and postoperative results in following cancer characteristics: invasivity, histological type, grading, proliferative activity and percentage of steroid hormone receptors and HER-2/neu receptors. On the contrary, measurements of tumor size and settings of the numbers of tumor foci exhibited poor correlation. Biggest disagreements were described in women with preoperative histological diagnosis “carcinoma in situ”: the differences were proven both for the tumor size and the number of tumor foci, and also for setting of invasiveness itself. Two species of Myxobolus Bütschli, 1882 were found in yellow catfish Tachysurus fulvidraco (Richardson). A species of Myxobolus infecting the gills was morphologically identified as Myxobolus voremkhai (Akhmerov, 1960) and it was characterised here with additional morphological and molecular data. The other species of Myxobolus infecting the host's skin did not conform to any known myxosporean species. It is characterised by the presence of round, black or milky white plasmodia with black spots. Myxospores are pyriform in frontal view and lemon-shaped in lateral view, measuring 12.9-16.2 μm (14.6 ± 0.7 μm) in length, 8.1-10.8 μm (9.4 ± 0.5 μm) in width, and 6.1-8.1 μm (7.0 ± 0.4 μm) in thickness. Two ampullaceous polar capsules are slightly unequal in size, larger polar capsule 7.2-9.5 μm (7.9 ± 0.4 μm) long by 3.0-3.9 μm (3.5 ± 0.2 μm) wide, smaller capsule 6.9-8.0 μm (7.4 ± 0.3 μm) long by 2.9-3.9 μm (3.4 ± 0.2 μm) wide. Polar filaments are coiled with seven to nine turns. Histologically, the plasmodia develop in the stratum spongiosum of skin dermis, resulting in epithelial cell shedding and immunological cell infiltration. Given the morphological and molecular differences between this species and other species of Myxobolus, we proposed the name of Myxobolus pseudowulii sp. n. for this parasite from the skin of yellow catfish. Interestingly, some spores of the new species possess Henneguya-like caudal appendages.
